It feels like this was a sold-out hit from when it opened right up until March 2020 and then it just never really picked up again once it reopened. Is it the terribly-received film adaptation that killed it?

Bit of a shocker. I’ve rarely seen any deals for it. I guess the Noel Coward got a better offer and invoked a clause?

Very much a wish - but Doubtfire isn't headed for the NC Think the Noel Coward would be far too small for Mrs Doubtfire. A five month notice does suggest something else is coming in. Perhaps Oedipus with Mark Strong rather than a musical?

The Noel Coward is a hard theatre to put a musical in. The wing space is bad and the stage has a rake. I’d fully expect a play to go in after this. Perhaps The Shining

Would the broad general audience really have heard about the film's crucifixion? It's still going on in New York right

They're stunt/star-casting Jared with a kid from Stranger Things, but the show will be gone by early 2023 unless something miraculous happens

Ah I see. Its appeal did escape me, but I thought it was still pretty popular.

Maybe the perception of it being a big hit was just that: a perception. Even before the pandemic it completely bombed in Toronto.

It’s a shame. It’s a show that’s grown on me and Sam Tutty is excellent.
There are always deals. Rush tickets every day that rarely sell out. It’s on Tkts. And I’ve had an email from DM with offers for the Bank Holiday weekend.
To be fair, it wasn’t selling out even before the pandemic. I don’t think the themes work quite as well in the UK as in the US.
Will be interesting to see if they think this will sell well enough to tour or not.

I think the terrible reaction to the film has really hurt this show.

Excited though to see what Sam Tutty will do next! I wouldn’t be surprised it Jagged Little Pill was next in.

It strikes me as a show that should be relatively cheap to tour (small cast and band and simple set) so I'm hopeful.

The Noel Coward is a playhouse really, so I imagine it'll be a play.
I'm kinda surprised it flopped so hard when it reopened as it was genuinely a sell-out show up until it closed due to the pandemic. It just never really picked up again.
What killed it? I don't know. It had a hardcore fanbase and everyone else wanted to see it to see what all the fuss was about. Maybe it was forgotten about when the theatres reopened and there were newer, shinier shows to talk about.
But then maybe the film killed it, or maybe people just didn't want to see a somewhat depressing show about mental health after a global pandemic.

Could Bonnie & Clyde transfer in? It would definitely fit I’d think because it has a limited set so the wing-space wouldn’t be an issue. It’s not a huge venue to fill but not sure if there’s the demand for it. The remainder of the Arts run seems to have sold quite well after struggling a bit in the beginning. Oklahoma would also be a good fit here if they change it to the proscenium arch version that’s touring the US right now, although from seeing the production it would lose a lot being staged in a traditional way in my opinion.
