Mind, at one point in the first half I did think that the plot belonged more in Doctor Who than Harry Potter. Saw both parts today too, and I had that exact same thought about half way through part 2. However not necessarily a bad thing. I'm still taking it all in!

It made me think of Who as well, though a friend likened it more to a certain film I won't name for fear of giving anything away.
However, given that the books were fairly derivative of other scifi, I suppose we shouldn't be surprised the play is!

YES! I thought that. There was definitely no curtain when I went at the end of June and went again tonight and there was one down. Love the design on it. Is it actually a printed design? I thought it was black with projection.. hmm not sure, I didn't venture any closer to it than row R stalls, but it seemed printed from there.

Have to say I wasn't sure whether the Palace would work for a play but it actually suits the production and for a 1400 seat theatre, it felt intimate from where i was sat in the stalls.

I must admit, I didn't feel I lost much by being in row E dress, it was a great view. (Apart from maybe of one bit I won't mention here!)
All depends on who's in front, though - one rather curvy person swapped places with their friend from Thurs to Fri, so on Fri I struggled a bit to see what happened on the right of the stage...

I saw this yesterday and it exceeded expectations! I had a great seat in Row I of the stalls. I thought the set design, staging, costumes, choreography, music and performances were all brilliant. I preferred part 1 as I felt part 2 started to drag towards the end, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it all. It was a very special thing to experience with the rest of the audience, plenty of gasps and laughs.
I got to the theatre about 45 minutes before both parts and security checks were very quick. The staff were all lovely. A wonderful day at the theatre.
Now I'm wondering how long I should wait until I try and see it again!

I've heard complains of the theatre being too hot. Is that true? A jacket is a no go?

Been a solo theatre goer, I slipped in 15 minutes before for both parts on Sunday with no problems whatsoever. With regards to the heat, I was wearing short sleeves but didn't notice it being any warmer than a standard theatre.

I've heard complains of the theatre being too hot. Is that true? A jacket is a no go? I sat mid dress circle on two nights. First night I was fine with short sleeves and jeans, second night I needed to slip a light jacket on for act 2. Certainly didn't find it hot, and I'm pretty sensitive to that sort of thing.

Back of the stalls got pretty warm, even with just a short sleeved tee on.

How are any of you getting tickets? Yes, perhaps I should have booked when it went on sale but I love a bandwagon and I want to jump on this one, and not in 2017. I do the lottery every Friday and nothing.

Oh bad luck, trapdoor. :-( I wish I could share a big secret, but sadly it was just that I sat for ages back when booking opened and eventually got through the queue.

I do the lottery every Friday and nothing. I got them through the wishlist in March. Just when I thought I would miss out on this until 2017. Got lucky!

Some people have reported getting lucky by going up to the box office and enquiring after returns. Personally speaking, I just spend a LOT of time online (yes, when I should be working) so when they announced a few weeks back they had some tickets for sale that hadn't been previously available, I jumped on it. Keep trying with the Friday Forty, join the wishlist, be flexible, and keep your fingers crossed for a little good luck.

Just noticed they updated the duration of the plays once again (third time now) on the official website. Both were reduced by 5 minutes, Part 1 staying 5 mins longer than originally stated before previews, and Part 2 getting back to the exact same duration they stated before previews.

There's an article that mentions that Warner Bros has registered the trademark for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child for a possible future film. I imagine that it's being done now so that WB can use at a later date. Warner Bros is also a major investor in the play as well which isn't surprising since they're very involved in any Wizarding World projects with the upcoming Fantastic Beasts films as well.

Friday Forty is getting a little silly now... I had the webpage open on 5 different machines and still didn't win. Boo. Made my daughter have a go... "You never know, you might win".....she did! I was able to smugly say "See, I told you so!" She is taking her sister and I'll pay...I used to read Harry Potter to them as a bedtime story! I went this week, so all good! Row AA tickets and yes, as per theatremonkey advice, the stage looks nice and low for this! I am now officially The Best Mother Ever! Keep trying...may the luck be with you!

My non spoilery review. Attended today with a large amount of anticipation in tow. Both shows went off without a hitch (apart from a few dropped wands) and it seems to me like it's ready to open properly now, if it ever wasn't. I think I got more enjoyment from a technical level and general Potter geekery than I got enjoyment from the actual storytelling or emotional content but it's by no means an empty spectacle. The special effects are absolutely brilliant though. None of them are truly baffling but the right things are done in the right places, without too much reliance on projections. The cast are faultless, particularly Anthony Boyle as Scorpius, Noma Dumezweni as Hermione and Jamie Parker as Harry. Those three really win the audience over, even when the script isn't giving them as much as it could. I enjoyed the whole experience and I'm glad that "the Harry Potter play" didn't feel like a rip off, or a cynical attempt to do a bit more Potter.
On the logistical end I didn't check my watch for part two but part one finished at 16.45. My tickets in the end never turned up so I was issued with a handwritten ticket at the box office with little fuss. Apparently I can return for a souvenir ticket in the future for my book, which is nice. The cast were also very prompt for my rare attendance at the stage door, they must have known I was keen to get home, bless 'em.
