GC will be wearing her original costumes but I do hope the rest of the cast will be equally as well dressed. And just how "semi-staged"is this going to be? Was Sweeney Todd semi-staged? were scripts in hand? Far as I am aware, no scripts were in hand for Sweeney. It was semi-staged, so there was props and stuff but no major set.
As for this, I'd be surprised if there wasn't at least the iconic curved stairs.

There's a choreographer involved so there must be SOMEthing going on. Anyway I just need to hear that overture, and then GC saying "You there! Why are you so late?" and making an entrance In her turban and round sunnies and I'll be a happy bear

I do wonder what kind of audience will go to this... like, when she enters, will there be entrance applause? Was there for Emma Thompson? I hope it is not like the recent Little Shop of Horrors in America where you literally couldn't hear a word of anything Ellen Greene said they went so crazy! This is a more classy show compared to that though I guess haha.

I am also wondering how this will be staged. According to the ENO website, the running time is only 2 hours, so I guess lots of dialogue will be left out.

I'm using a precious weekend off of work for this and have even booked a Travelodge so that we don't have to tear straight back up the M4 afterwards. I want more than 2 hours and no swimming pool.

Ooh, that's annoying, the dialogues are the only things that can save us from the redundancy of the score... Especially the scenes where Norma is not it.

Despite its enormous flaws (like the mediocrity of the scenes Norma is not in), sunset has the finest (and possibly the only good ones) scenes you can find in Andrew Lloyd Webber's musicals. Especially "as if we never said goodbye", that song can make me forgive many things to alw.

I think she will most definitely get entrance applause as the dialogue and entrance is made for it. American audiences are a lot worse than UK ones for interrupting songs to clap/cheer. A lot of the time on Broadway when the big numbers start the audience are clapping over the first part of them. I don't think that will be the case here; just entrance applause and after the big songs.

Not really liking this "2 hour" running time. I hope that's a mistake ? I just very roughly added up the running time of the tracks on the US recording and it's about 120 mins total. That album includes the dialogue, such as t is, so what's missing?

The video with Betty Buckley is 1.15 hour for the first act and 1 hour for the second act. It should be around 2.30, including the interval.

It completely takes the audience out of the moment, and the focus on the character and not the actor. I commented on this once on YouTube and got shot down in flames by US theatre goers for DARING to criticise this convention.

This show has been sold on her. I'd be surprised if there wasn't entrance applause! I remember Imelda received applause when she first came onstage in Gypsy.
With Sweeney they assembled the full cast onstage before the show started; Emma and Bryn came on last to rapturous applause. I wonder if Sunset will follow suit.

There's not a chance in Hell that La Close won't get applause on her entrance. Heck, even Kim Cattrall got an entrance round of applause when I saw her in 'Private Lives'! Tsk, Americans. No wonder we were happy to see the back of 'em on the Mayflower. Personally though, I will certainly be giving Michael's Xavier's entrance a big hand too. I'll probably give him a round of applause too. Fnar fnar.

Was there ever applause on entrance for any of the London Normas sans Patti Lupone's final performance (there's that bootleg!), and the final performance in London with Petula Clark?
I don't want to mention the B word, but of all the London Sunset, um, private recordings, Norma's descend down the staircase does not garner applause.
Different story with the Broadway production where it almost sounds weird if none of the Normas would get an entrance applause.

The one and only time I saw it with La Clark - just after the closing was announced - people DID applaud her entrance. But that didn't happen with any of the other Normas I saw
