Haven't I seen rehearsal pics or a photo shoot of Glen with the cast last week. Stephen Mear (choreographer) also tweeted that the first week of rehearsals were over and that Glen was "lovely". Haha, I'm sure she is. Mind you, he's not going to say "Good God, that Glenn Close is a mahoosive bi-yatch AND she's can't sing the score. You people have wasted your hard earned cash!"

From a friend of a friend who is in the cast, apparently the cast are rehearsing with Ria Jones as Norma until the last two weeks when Glenn Close will be flown in for the final set of rehearsals. Ok, so we assume Ria will be the understudy right?
And that isn't surprising, but I bet she is doing a lot of vocal rehearsals right now in order to make sure she is up to it. She is a great actress, I am sure she is not gonna risk embarrassment.
... at least I hope not.
Yes. Though I actually think she's a standby, but with no scheduled performances. I highly doubt she'll go on actually. I feel La Close will stick this one out and commit come rain or come shine.

The press will be sharpening there pens if close goes off ill. If she does and it's on my night, I'm going to tweet her and she'd better bloody buy me another ticket. And a programme. And a taxi to the theatre. And a room in a 5* hotel overnight (even thought I live in London). And a G&T and an ice cream at the interval. And a touch up from Michael Xavier.

I'm not going to lie, I booked this basically for the casting of Glenn, but i would not be disappointed in the slightest if Ria was on!

I saw Ria Jones as Mrs Overall in the rehashed version of Acorn Antiques. She was very good but she wasn't Julie Walters... I'd imagine GC's absence would have the same effect as SS's over at the Menier at the moment. But what can you do? If someone is off, you have to have an understudy at the ready.

I know some people tire of the day seat question, but boo sucks to you I'm asking anyway.
Has anyone heard about possible day seats for this? I like Sunset, but not enough to pay over £100 for a seat. Sweeney last year had them so was hoping SB would be the same. I seem to recall seeing that the front row wasn't on sale on the ENO website, so assuming it hasn't been removed it got me hoping. I may have imagined this about the front row however.

I'd actually prefer to see Ria Jones in this, Glenn Close is the only thing putting me off. It's one of my favourite scores but she's not my favourite Norma by a long way. I haven't seen Ria in much but she was amazing in Jerry's Girl's recently, and I imagine she would fit perfectly.

Her brother Ceri Dupree is pretty good too, he was in Hot Stuff at Oldham a long time ago. I think they've performed together as well.

Oh gosh yes! They were marvellous together in the cabaret at St James Theatre recently. Ceri as Glenn's understudy would be worth hoping La Close was under the weather one night!

I'm going to see this for the orchestralisations, not fussed re GC so was just wondering if the lass doing the understudying was the correct age(ish) for the role or if they got someone closer to Glennis's age

Listening to the Los Angeles cast recording tonight for the first time in a while, it really is one of Lloyd Webber's best and I cannot wait to hear it played by a full orchestra!

Is it me or are Michael's moobs running the risk of upstaging the rest of the cast? Well they'll certainly stretch the credibility of the 42inch chest line in "The Lady's Paying"

GC will be wearing her original costumes but I do hope the rest of the cast will be equally as well dressed. And just how "semi-staged"is this going to be? Was Sweeney Todd semi-staged? were scripts in hand?
