Surely this puts the movie on the back burner again though.

Pathetic sniping about vocal ability is getting a bit tired. The whole performance/production was sumptuious and just fantastic. Broadway will either like it or not.

I knew you'd be along. Of course I don't agree that she can't sing it, she's not the best singer I've ever seen but is certainly one of the best actresses I've seen on stage. I'd much rather have the acting be amazing and the singing not 100% than just an amazing singer or you might as well just be at a concert. The amazing acting and her singing makes it so much more real and believable and a fantastic evening at the theatre. I've seen loads of note perfect performances with sub-par acting and I know which works better. There are very few actors I've seen nail both. I have never seen anyone command the stage like Glenn Close. Happy to hear that you enjoyed her, but for me, her vocal inabilities completely overshadowed her acting and ruined the entire show. It was so painful to watch her and I was grimacing with pain. And re acting vs. singing: In a musical, I always want someone who can sing the sh*t out of songs (if you excuse my language). If I had to choose between singer and actor, I'd always choose singer. I don't say that acting is unimportant and preferably they ace both, but while I don't mind bad acting that much, I'm definitely not OK with someone who can't sing their role. If you're not going to bring anything new to the discussion and just repeat the same point of view, could you not. Thanks muchly. I can return this to all those who post the same choruses of praise over and over. Why is this OK but stating that you didn't like something not? Don't you think that this board would be boring if everyone only ever posted positive things and kept negative things to themselves? So can you please stop praising her? It doesn't bring anything new to the discussion. Thanks muchly. The opposite.

As for your last paragraph, I think you will be find I have not repeatedly praised her as again the repetitive nature of this gets tiring. I had hoped as an Admin you would see this. How can you administer a board and ask others to not keep repeating a view point when you do it yourself.

As for your last paragraph, I think you will be find I have not repeatedly praised her as again the repetitive nature of this gets tiring. It was not directed at you but just a general remark written in the tone of your original post. I had hoped as an Admin you would see this. How can you administer a board and ask others to not keep repeating a view point when you do it yourself. This has nothing to do with me being staff, it's just my personal opinion (hence written in plain black rather than red). Also, I'm not asking anyone to stop repeating their views - the Wicked thread would be empty if I did - but I do think that there should be some sort of reciprocity. If it's just the repetetive posts you're questioning, why did you only address me and not everyone else who's praising Ms Close's Norma again and again?

Everyone is entitled to express their opinion, and repetition is impossible to avoid (as any reader of this forum surely knows) so let's move on shall we?

Moobs on Broadway! I wonder what Broadway will make of him- where handsome leading men who can sing are ten a penny. I'm surprised about Michael; decidedly meh.

I'm surprised about Michael; decidedly meh. I agree - miscast, and I hated the way he played to the gallery and tried to get the audience on side the whole time. I don't think he understood the character that well. Or was poorly directed...

The topless scene didnt bother me, although seemed a bit unnecessary. But michael xaviers acting was so hammy, i was shocked how bad he was as ive always liked him. He was also too funny

Yes, it wasn't Michael's best performance - I preferred him in Showboat in Sheffield. He could not transfer with that into London as it clashed with Sunset. He clearly made the right choice as Sunset has got him to make his Broadway debut. I suspect that Ms Close liked him and got on well with him and she requested that he be hired for Broadway. It just shows how these things work. NYC must be teaming with actors who could portray the part.

I agree I reckon this has something to do with Glen. They had a really good chemistry on stage and it probably translated off stage too. Being a nice guy pays off

Mat as well keep this the thread rather than start a new one... previews begin tonight for the Broadway production, anyone going soon? Heard there may be some changes with costumes and the like so excited to see what occurs.

I read on another site that this is selling horrendously (like Bend It Like Beckham level bad). Interesting how popular it was here in comparison!

I read on another site that this is selling horrendously (like Bend It Like Beckham level bad). Interesting how popular it was here in comparison! I think that it has something to do with nothing being said about it since announcement so everyone had forgotten it was even happening. But I have read that since Glenn has been out and really promoting it with a load of interviews and press, it is now starting to shift more.
