*SPOILERS*
So I just finished watching the film of sunset boulevard and I am confused why, when the musical is basically word for word the same as the film, they would cut out the crucial line that explains why Joe flips out at Betty? That scene made no sense to me in the show but makes a lot more sense in the film! No idea why they would choose to cut the line

Finally saw this Saturday afternoon. Beautifully, beautifully directed - loved the "Perfect Year" and montage staging. Thanks to whoever suggested the limited edition print, too. Exquisite souvenir. I got 76 / 100, so my guess is they must sell about 5 per show. C29 stalls. You miss only a bit of the Desmond balcony, but at the end, if she stands in the wrong place, a couple of lines come from behind a pillar. Still, great value seat. I have 48/100 print which I bought (framed) on Friday night. Think they'll sell out soon although I don't know how many they have pre-framed? Great souvenir though!

Did they stock the mugs yet? When I went they had it listed but it wasn't delivered to the theatre yet. I'm gutted they weren't selling t-shirts. I went all merchandise nuts on this one, and I almost never do.

Has anyone sat in the £12 seats? What are they like?

The view itself is basically fine, but the further back you are, the more likely you are to have people sitting bolt upright like meerkats in front of you. Though if you're at the very back, you could at least stand if it came to it. The staging isn't as far forward as Sweeney was, but you're still getting £12 worth of view for a show where others have paid £100.

Never been to the Coliseum before. Where can you buy the merchandise from? All levels or just the main foyer?

Well, I finally saw this tonight (Monday).
Oh, Glenn. Even from my Upper Circle seat I felt every single one of her feelings, her gestures, her intonations, her highs, her lows, her grandeur, her demise - and her looks. Watching Glenn perform her two solo numbers is really something, isn't it? My heart was simultaneously in my mouth and beating so far out of my chest, I could almost see it, if it were not for the tears in my eyes. A truly remarkable experience and she is sensational. And judging by the (deserved) audience reactions after those two songs, it's clear that everyone is there for one reason and one reason only - Glenn Close.
I actually find myself not having much to say about the rest of the cast - they were all perfectly fine in their respective roles!
However, this was my first time seeing Sunset Boulevard in any incarnation and I deliberately avoided listening to any of the music (bar the few songs I already know) and I'm just afraid to say that it did absolutely nothing for me. I think it's a truly fascinating story and I will now endeavor to watch the 1950 film, but I did not realise just how sung-through this was, with very little dialogue, and I found much of the music to be ever so repetitive and sometimes quite dull. Thank GOODNESS for that 48-piece orchestra, surely (next to Glenn) the most thrilling part of the evening. The swell of 'With One Look' playing underneath when the spotlight swings to Norma just before AIWNSG is a theatrical moment I shall never forget.
Personally, I prefer a lot of the underscoring to many of the recitative/songs and, for my money, I'd prefer to see it as a play, but With One Look and AIWNSG still included, but the orchestra underscoring the evening. What a weird combination that would be, but I don't think I could sit through the entire musical again when all I want is to see Glenn.
So, I left feeling deflated initially that maybe I felt let down by the show that surrounded Norma Desmond but shortly came to realise that With One Look, As If We Never Said Goodbye, Glenn Close herself and the 48-piece orchestra were more than worth the ticket price alone.
Also, notices in the foyer this evening:
"Filming Notice Sunset Boulevard Date: 18th April 2016
Please note that filming will be taking place on these premises on the date above. Whilst the crew will be filming specific people, you should be aware that if you are on the premises whilst we are filming, you may appear in the background.
Your presence will be taken as permission for us to use the footage, so if you have any objection to appearing please notify the crew on the day.
For answers to any questions about the filming, please speak to a member of the film crew.

Saw no crew in the Upper Circle, though I couldn't see into the Dress Circle and Stalls, but also saw no crew in the foyer or surrounding areas so I am none the wiser!

Is this production eligible for the awards season next year? Because it's highly unlikely we'll see a better female musical performance than La Close over the next 12 months.

There was some filming going on in the Stalls Bar at interval and before the show, seemed to be vox pop interviews. Not sure if it was background material for a promo to get funding for a NY transfer or movie. Didn't see any filming in the auditorium. Not much to add to the praise for Close on here, stunning performance. My evening in the front stalls somewhat impaired by the gentleman wearing so much Gaultier Pour Homme fragrance that I thought I was back in a 90s gay disco and who told me to "shut the f*ck up" when I asked him to stop checking his phone during Act 1. Think he was there under duress by his wife, he certainly wasn't enjoying it and didn't applaud, even at the end.

Advice please as I want to make a return visit. Am I better off in a DC seat for £67.50 (row H) OR a UC Row A restricted legroom seat for £57.50 OR £25 Balcony Row A with restricted legroom? I sat in G balcony which was OK but I want to see a bit more of Glenn's facial expressions. I'm 5'2" so I'm hoping the legroom won't be too bad. Any advice would be appreciated

Overheard at the Stage Door last night that Glenn Close might not sign tonight as she is expecting 30+ guests.
I'm so thrilled I got her autograph, and so grateful for her to take the time. She did as many as she possibly could last night.

Any advice would be appreciated I sat in the balcony A14, is that a seat with restricted leg room? If it is, I didn't notice! I'm about the same height as you and had more than enough leg space. The horizontal bar at the front was not a problem but the upright support bar right in front of me sometimes got in the way. As in I'd often position my head to have one person either side of the bar, but it wasn't a problem really. However I'm considering going again and seeing it from a bit closer. I could see their faces but would like to see them a bit better. That probably hasn't helped you much though.

I'm not sure why I am strangely unmoved by Close's performance.
I mean, yes the acting is superb - but that's hardly a surprise is it? I am obviously in the minority here, there and everywhere, but I personally don't particularly love her take on the character. Particularly how old and vulnerable she is playing it. Doesn't work for me.
I guess I have seen her superlative performances of the two biggest arias many times, so again I was not wowed because they were exactly as she did them in ALW's '98 birthday concert.

My turn has come!!! Thankfully after making a hash of travel arrangements and days and tickets, the box office staff were wonderful and I altered my ticket for a near identical one for this evening. Can't wait. Never seen it.
