I've only just caught up with this and really enjoyed it last night. I like the original film upon which it is based and so I was a little cautious as to how well it would adapt as a musical but the songs are great and the whole thing is very cleverly structured musically to culminate in the excellent finale. My only criticism was that some of the lyrics were a little clunky and cheesy and musically it occasionally over-emoted and became a bit bathetic but compared to the awful Dreamgirls it's positively Sondheimesque. I love how they have kept the essential englishness intact and the, fairly simple, design is very effective.
I'll definitely revisit.

Each time I've seen this I've thought that Dean Chisnall would make an excellent Charlie.

Finally caught up with this again. We had not been since the very first night way, way back! (Although we caught an excellent version a couple of years ago in Malmo). So, it was great to see that it is as fun as ever.

Hoping for some confirmed casting news soon. I'd really love to see Olly Tompsett as Charlie. I know he auditioned and think he'd be great, if they don't go for a name.

So David confirmed he was leaving about 2 weeks ago when I met him backstage. He said the new Charlie has been cast but he did not wanna drop any hints. He confirmed that Jordan fox is staying with the show but did not confirm if he was going on tour or staying as Harry/Understudy Charlie. I believe Simon is staying on as Lola but nothing has been confirmed. From what I know these cast members are confirmed to leave. David Hunter Verity Rushworth Alan Medziah hopefully we will have casting announcements soon

As for Jordan he’s staying with the show but it isn’t confirmed London or the Tour yet (he’s hoping for tour lead), Simon is also staying.

Dean isn’t that much older (35) but I don’t see him as Charlie either. It definitely won’t happen this year anyway.

I kinda wish they'd just given Jordan the lead in London. He has more than earned that position, he is one of the best understudies ive seen! Though Harry has one of my faovurite songs in the show so can't be all bad playing that role either!

Now booking through til 29th September I've said for a coupke of years now, if it runs for three years, then I'll be happy. This extension (assuming it will play until then), will take it there. I'd still be sad to see it close, its one of my favourites, but I'd be satisfied. Chatting to Jordan in January, he told me that their new contracts are still for a year so they are going into the new cast with the intention of doing another year at least.

I believe the new contracts run until the 27th April next year, I wouldn't be at all surprised if that turns out to be the last performance (that's if it hasn't closed beforehand). I hope it'll continue on for a little while longer yet though. I'll be gutted when it does close, it's my favourite show and you can bet I'll pay a hell of a lot of money to be at the last show if needs be. It's had a good run though, I know many didn't expect it to run for two years, let alone more.

I imagine RUG/Nederlander are happy to keep it until a show wants the Adelphi, I think it’s more likely to close on Broadway first before London much like Once and Jersey Boys did

I saw this for the first time in about two years on Thursday, thanks to the TodayTix Lottery.
Excellent view from the front row, the downside being selected for some of the audience interaction with Lola (nothing that bothers me, but the group of women behind me found it hilarious).
All of the leads were on, with the exception of Suzie McAdam as understudy Lauren. I particularly liked David Hunter as Charlie Price, not seen him in anything since Once and reminded of his excellent voice.
There was a long queue to get in and a lot of people got to their seat right at the last minute. This is still really popular, mainly as a girls' night out. I can easily see it running another year.

Can anyone advise me of the running time please? We're in London for a few days, getting the coach back home at 6.30pm on Saturday and I'm wondering if we will have time to fit this in before we go home. It does say 2 hours 20 minutes, is that accurate?

It does say 2 hours 20 minutes, is that accurate? It was done by 9:50pm the other evening, so maximum 2 hours 20 minutes. The ushers are very keen for everyone to leave quickly as well. So, a matinee should finish at 4:50pm and it would be easy to get to Victoria (assuming the coach goes from there) by 5:30pm, so lots of time. The only proviso to think about is luggage. Like most theatres, they have a bag search. This one was quite thorough which explained the large queues going in. I doubt large bags will be allowed in, so you'd have to allocate time to get to and from wherever you store your bags as well (I've used the Luggagehero app recently, which works well and lets you pay a few pounds to store it at local convenience stores).

I heard that Dear Evan Hansen were looking at the Adelphi, but I think Kinky Boots deserves to stay for another year or two, or it could maybe downsize to a smaller theatre? I bet Really Useful / Nederlander would want Dear Evan Hansen because of how much hype it had on Broadway, but if there is any show I want at the Adelphi it's Waitress.

When the time comes for the producers to think about closing in London, the fact that it is still open on Broadway will have zero impact on the decision. If the London production starts to slip and lose money, they're not going to bankroll it and keep it running just because the Broadway production is still running. Equally they won't close the Broadway show if it's still profitable, just to make sure that it closes before London.
In terms of a replacement show (when the time comes), RUG won't be able to just kick Kinky out without certain factors being met, unless they pay them off of course, which is rare but does happen.
There'll be a clause in the contract which stipulates the minimum notice period if the show is profitable. There'll also be an agreed level of profitability, and if the production falls below this for a specified amount of time, the theatre are then able to serve notice
If no show is interested in the venue, the producer can often negotiate a deal on their rent, or the ticket share, as even if the theatre makes no money from the show itself, having an income from bar spend is better than having no income at all from a dark theatre.
If a show is interested in taking the theatre, and the theatre wants to get rid of it's existing show that's making no money, they can decide not to offer rent reductions in a bid to nudge the show out, or as soon as the show dips below the profitability clause they'll issue notice straight away to get them out.
Sorry to ramble off topic a little bit, but I thought it would be an interesting insight to share!

^It is interesting that a theatre owner can offer to pay for a show to leave their current venues. I think Cameron Mackintosh has done it a few times when he wanted the Prince Edward for a couple of his shows and ALW did with Les Mis at the Palace

Thank you for your help. We are storing the cases at a hotel just up the road from Victoria, I used BAGB&B who charge a fiver per case which then leaves us free to spend the rest of the day in London. Could have left them at the hotel but it's at the opposite side of the city. Not heard of Luggagehero but good to know there are other options.

I thought that the show was in great shape last night and the audience loved it. Really like this Charlie too. The theatre was mostly full. Also can say, as someone that doesn't like heights, the Adelphi has a rather nice upper circle (at least in the front section which has newer seats)

I've sat on the front of the Upper for Made in Dagenham and agree, its a great view! I'm glad to hear that the theatre at least when we all go, seems pretty full! I'm sure this show still has time left in it.
