Does Evan need to be white? Not at all, we never see his dad so he could be mixed race, or depending on the casting of Heidi he could be any race at all. Not an impact on the plot whatsoever Then I hope the production company and casting director will consider BAME actors. Everyone seems to be just suggesting white ones!

Excellent news. This is exactly what we need in the West End.

Luke appears to have deleted his tweet, but is basically said bullying still exists, and alot of the comments are naturally assuming it is aimed at his co-star, who clesrly is aiming his inital tweet toward him. I actually think his co-star is the unprofessional one for tweeting that when its clearly about Luke. Respect your cast.

Excellent news. This is exactly what we need in the West End. Even if you want to make the (generally archaic) "But GENETICS!" argument, we never see Evan's father, nor an image of him. It does make things slightly more flexible. Besides, almost every — if not every — standby for both Alana/Zoe so far has been a young woman of color.

See my shady brain read that as them being the bitter ones who wouldn't have a hope in hell of ever getting cast in the role or are jealous. But on the flipside, I go with the mindset it is unprofessional of him to do that, and it is going to ruin the backstage atmosphere at Jamie for a lil while and likely divide cast members a bit. Michelle can put them all in their place tho.

I can see both sides to the arguement with this one, so I get your opinion entirely.

Yeah, this is just odd from Bayer. This campaign he’s vietually launched is irritating, and seeing other people (and quite noticeable ones in London today) comment on Baker’s is encouraging to see I’m not alone !

I can see how it would irritate people and it has been a bit OTT - but I think it's unprofessional to be posting that view on social media where it can clearly be seen by the person it's aimed at. The atmosphere at the Apollo is going to be extremely frosty.

The odd thing is, its performers commenting on Baker's, but its people not in the industry commenting on Bayer's. So its weird to balance it. Again, I think its just one of those things that naturally will divide people.

The inital tweets that caused the drama, from both Bayer and Baxter have now been deleted. Bets on a phone call being made from someone to do with the show? 😂

There is no denying that Bayer is very talented, but he does seem a tad desperate to be cast in this show. I can't imagine the bosses at Jamie would be too happy with him pretty much confirming that he would leave their show to be in this one.
Before people inevitably come after me, I mean no hate by this comment.

Before people inevitably come after me, I mean no hate by this comment. It's not confirming we how ditch the show. Their contracts are renewed annually anyway, so another year from now, he would naturally end his contract anyway in time for Evan Hansen. I don't think the issue with this specific discussion is Bayer wanting the part though, its obvious he does. The issue here is Baxter's unprofessionalism in tweeting about performers auditioning via videos on twitter and how its a bad example for young performers, when it is clearly obvious his co-star is one of the ones doing it the most. That is unprofessional, not just to a fellow performer, but to someone in the same cast.

I never physically saw the tweets but it sounds like the co-star is jealous and petty. I can't imagine the backstage atmosphere at the Apollo between the two being too great.

Is he jealous though? I really don’t think that was it. I think he was just fed up of what was going on.

Maybe jealous isn't the best word? Perhaps bitter, spiteful, snide?

At the end of the day, producers of DEH may notice the drama and simply cast someone who nobody expects, e.g. a recent drama school grad, or perhaps someone who we didn't even realise was in the running for the role.

Well let’s be honest. They could end up looking at people we haven’t even mentioned. Only time will tell.

I find posting “omg I want the part” much less unprofessional than posting “those who post how they want the part are wrong”. First is smth I can relate to. The second I would discuss in private. Being a naive dreamer is better than being a bitchy colleague

Are you saying that Jamie and Eugenius are not heavily pop-sounding They might well and I'm generally not a fan of modern pop sounds (I'm old) but I find both Jamie and Eugenius more melodic and catchy than DEH, which often sounds overamplified and just noisy. I can't really put it in words, it's just how I feel about the music. How can you explain why one singer/band appeals to you and another not entirely different singer/band appeals not at all? Jamie also has more "typical" musical sounds, like both of the Mom's big ballads "If I met myself again" and "My Boy" which I both love, and the quiet but oh so lovely "It means beautiful". The only quieter tone I can detect in DEH is - as I mentioned "So Big/So Small" when it's finally just a lovely melody and voice. I've been told that DEH doesn't sound quite so overamplified in the theatre, which is one of the things I want to check on. Another thing is simply that Jamie fells like these typically British small shows that just keep plugging on and do good business based on word of mouth, whereas DEH feels so massively overhyped - I am not saying it's a bad show, I just don't think it deserves the adoration it gets, because there's so much potential for it to be better in the way it tells its story or could polish the music and lyrics. When it comes to Jamie, I simply have no idea how it could be bettered, it's just a little gem as it is. (I'm leaving Eugenius out here, because a) the story is quite different from Jamie and DEH and not half as seriously and b) the music is consciously 80s pastiche, which appeals quite a lot to this 80s gal). I feel the same way. When talking about melody, I just don't get it from this (or Come From Away and Waitress). I find them bland and don't get that feeling you can't describe that touches you. I know that people DO get that from DEH though and that's great. Music is such a personal thing that you can't often describe in words. Anyway, glad this is coming over. Compared to Waitress and CFA I would be interested in seeing it to see what I am missing. (Hamilton was the same, I wasn't, and am still not, a huge fan of the music - I never listen to the CD - but seeing it live I did at least get what people love about it). I will say though, shows in America do get "hype' that gets out of control and eventually is much bigger (unrealistically) from the product. We shall see! They've picked a far more sensible theatre than Waitress and am sure the first year will sell out if from the love in the musical theatre community. Whether Joe Public then take to it to sustain it through a cast change time will tell!
