I love George Ure but he does look a bit old (No idea of his actual age) Surely this is Rob Houchen's gig?? or else.... Liam Doyle .... I mean he has made no secret he wants this part.

I'm not sure I can see Liam Doyle as Evan. Don't really know why, just a hunch! Did he do a song from DEH at a concert once, I seem to recall? Maybe someone who saw that would be more qualified to pass judgement. He did. It was at Musical Marathon. He even had a cast on. I can't remember if he sang For Forever, You Will Be Found or Waving Through the Window, I think it was For Forever. But from what I remember, he was perfectly fine. By the end of the night he was one of the performers I remembered the least. But remember he performed it with just a piano. It was just fine from my memory.

Doing a literal carbon copy of Ben Platt (like, put the two videos side by side, and it’s exactly the same) 🙄 But sure.

Great to have confirmation, but I do prefer the Noel Cowsrd as a playhouse. I thought the Geilgud would have suited if better, but whatever - glad it’s coming to town.

It’s official, 2019 is my favourite already. Whilst there are moral questions surrounding the storyline of DEH it was easily one of the best things I’ve ever seen. Exciting to hear that the cast is to be British, I’d love Rebecca Lock for Heidi Hansen pretty please. Ever since I saw her in Heathers this year I thought she’d be perfect.
Keeping everything crossed that the Fun Home rumour is true too.

And no Rebecca, you do not have a choice! 😂

Echo for the great new to wake up to. Interesting its a Stacey Mindich production, not Sonia Friedman or Cam Mac as some have been positing. Although Im sure theres still chance for them to buy into it and given its going into a DMT house the latter is likely.

So, where are the hidden gems/cheap seats in this theatre we all need to pounce when booking opens?

I still stand by this being a bad, bad musical.

oh hooray another one I'm glad to have saved myself the Broadway prices for. (I don't hate it as a musical but I don't adore it either...I may just be too old and grumpy for it) But I'm still glad it's coming so I can see it properly, you know not just judge it on the cast recording and weird promo clips

But I'm still glad it's coming so I can see it properly, you know not just judge it on the cast recording and weird promo clips That's my thinking, too. For me it's an "okay" musical, something like a decent first try-out that could be polished both story-wise and musically. I don't think I'm too old for it, as I can love "teenage stories" too - I adored both Jamie and Eugenius in London. But I'm not a fan of this kind of noisy pop music (my favorite song by a mile is the much quieter "So Big / So Small"), I think the lyrics are clumsy and the story doesn't sit quite right with me. I just don't get how it could turn into such a crazy hype in New York. However, I am fine accepting that I might be missing somehing here and will be happy to give it a go when it comes to London.

I agree. Also fundamentally, unlike Jamie and Eugenius i find Evan a really unlikable character. But maybe that could change in casting. Anyway i do enjoy at good 3- 4 songs in it a great deal so for say £30 instead of £300 I'm looking forward to it. Probably a reference you personally won't get, but 'So big/so small' makes me think of 'Small far away' from Father Ted, and laugh in a silly way every time.

It might be Ben Platt's portrayal, but I found him massively likeable in Book of Mormon, so I don't know. We'll have to see what someone else does with the part and how it feels live. I still think part of the problem are the songs. I GET what "Waving through a Window" wants to say, but I like neither the melody nor the lyrics. With different/better lyrics, maybe that song would touch my heart the way Jamie immediately touches me when he sings "The Wall in my Head" (similar "this is the situation I'm stuck in" song). Probably a reference you personally won't get, but 'So big/so small' makes me think of 'Small far away' from Father Ted, and laugh in a silly way every time. I know My Lovely Horse, but that's as far as my Father Ted knowledge stretches

I'm glad it was announced last night for a London opening next year as I was tempted to try and get a NY ticket as part of my NY week in a fortnight. It's definitely saved me alot of money after looking at NY prices!

I only gave in and bought the cast recording after listening to the Found/Tonight mash-up a million times and deciding I needed to know the context of the DEH bit of it. Listened to it through once and went 'meh', but then I often do that with the cast recordings of musicals I haven't seen. Most of them really do need the staging to make sense! Glad I'll have the chance to give it a proper try-out at not-Broadway prices.
