Where would it go? I assume one of the playhouses as I doubt any of the bigger theatres will be available. Is there real demand for Joseph in the West End given it's toured since the Stone Age.

There is a break in the tour in July/August but Joe is busy with his "Gloria" Tour.
There are then dates up until mid-November. Its actually a pretty good show for a limited Christmas season.

NT Live relay to cinematic premises? As ALW has said he's planning to bring the show back to the West End 'later this year', it would make more sense to wait until then to do an NT Live relay to cinemas, or wait until the 50th celebration performance next year (whatever that involves) to do it. |

I've got no problem with Joseph as a show, and I'm sure when done properly it's probably quite good...but this particular production is an abomination. It's by far the most amateur-looking (I mean that with no disrespect to non-professional companies) "professional" show I've ever seen.
It's great that such a cheap production can offer really chip tickets for schools and families; I'm all for getting new audiences into theatre, but to put the current production into a West End house with inflated prices would anger me greatly. Have lower prices, with family deals and I'd possibly be more tolerable, but I still feel the production itself is nowhere near West End standards.

It's ALW, why not The Other Palace? It's conspicuously empty of any runs after July, and they've already had a visit from RENT so are presumably open to that sort of thing. |

The Palladium production of Joseph (later restaged at the Adelphi) proves it can be a quality show. But Kenwright's touring version is truly horrible. It's embarrassingly bad. |

And as you're two people who do "enjoy" being "precise" on well, everything I think it's fair to adjudicate on this one. They changed over the signage and décor in the break between, and Wild Party was indeed the first Other Palace production.
ETA to be completely pedantic, Rent was of course a co-production with Clwyd.
It's still a stupid name though.

I can see this backfiring badly. I actually love Joseph, it was the first show as a kid that got me obsessed with theatre, so will always hold a big place in my heart... BUT it doesn't have the same kind of cult following that JCS does. I also don't think the score is as 'big' as JCS score and will drown in a big venue. I saw the JCS arena tour and thought it was all kinds of wrong, and somehow think this will be an even more disappointing fail. Why not just do a big gala at the Palladium and get Donny Osmond, Philip Schofield, HfromSteps (that's his full name right?) etc with Linzi Harley, Maria Friedman and Vivienne Carlyle and other alumni back, and get ALW to play Jacob or something? This show is great when quality is put over quantity, and arena tours are hard to achieve that.

JCS has a rock score, so works in an arena setting (ALW has said that he originally envisioned it being performed in an arena setting). Joseph was originally written to be performed in a school, and certainly doesn't have a rock score. I just can't see it working in arenas, where many audience members will be sitting a long way from the stage! A gala performance in a theatre, with former cast members, would be a far more sensible (and fun) idea to celebrate the 50th anniversary. |

If they brought back Linzi Hateley for just 1 performance I'd be there in a heartbeat! Though I'm not sure she could belt it out like she used to. She's fantastic on the London Cast Recording.
