two talented women smashing it in the same role on different nights and that is that. Well said! Most theatre actors I have met are always supportive of each other. I guess it comes with the territory, particularly working as part of a cast.

Having seen both Alex and Linzi, both ladies were fantastic as the narrator. It’s just a great show with either lady and it was an absolute pleasure to see them on stage.

Well said, and having met Linzi a few times and spoken to her, I can say with some confidence she is very unstarry and humble and always willing to support others. She said I think in an interview that’s it’s Alexandra’s show really so I would think while she appreciates praise and all the love she’s been shown, she would not want people to be comparing her and Alexandra or saying one is better than the other!

I think it must be Alex not doing the matinees on the Bodyguard tour gave me the idea that she was a bit starry. I’m sorry Ms Burke x

I’m sorry Ms Burke x I worked on a charity thing Alexandra Burke was at, and that night at least she was absolutely lovely and very polite and professional with everyone. Had time for her fans too.

Some shows (I'm thinking of BoM particularly), there are high fives and hugs when turns come off after numbers, on a constant basis, this extends from cast in wings to ASMs and crew. Without going too LuPone, working in theatre is a community experience. A happy company in a successful show is unlike anything else in the world. It's a massive love in and bitchiness is very frowned upon.

Just been listening to Sheridans Showstoppers with Preeya Kalidas. There is an interesting little segment where they are talking about both having been Narrator in Joseph. Preeya is talking about Pharaoh's Story and performing it in the original key and Sheridan says the had to drop it to a "man's key for her.

A quick Wednesday night report.
This was only my second time ever seeing Joseph (having also seen the Palladium production two years ago now).
There was a massive queue to get in, but that was for one of the upper levels. No queue for the Stalls (I suspect people were just joining the nearest queue).
I was at the extreme end of Row B, which is an excellent seat for legroom. The angle is not terribly good though, as there is a raised section of stage in view.
The person at the end of Row A had a terrible seat, barely room to push his knees to his chest. The two people next to him (who I'm sure are a couple I've seen at other shows) didn't even return for the second half (or perhaps they found better seats somewhere else).
Very good to see most of the audience keeping their masks on.
As for the show? There really isn't that much to it, but I enjoyed it. Alexandra was brilliant, far better than Sheridan. Jac was on form. And the crowd loved Jason. It's so nice for a show to finish while it's still light outside!

During the first run in the early 90’s, they used to sell A1 and A25 for £5 each on the day- as long as you got to the box office early enough and asked specifically for those seats, as they never went on general sale.

Looks like this production is touring next year, heading to the Mayflower Southampton for a week 19-23 April. www.mayflower.org.uk/whats-on/joseph-2022/I reckon lots of people will be glad they've finally put the Kenwright tour to rest (for now at least!). Also I imagine Alexandra Burke could be doing the tour seeing as My Best Friend's Wedding is now cancelled and it is the same producer.

According to her Instagram Linzi is doing both shows tomorrow (Sunday) Fab for Linzi picking up extra shows! Bit confusing though cos Alexandra posted on Instagram earlier she was doing a 4 show weekend, so hopefully she’s ok. I wonder what the arrangement is with Linzi then? If it’s the scheduled performances plus any extra if needed, and the understudies are only for if neither Alexandra or Linzi are available? Either way, fabulous for anyone going tomorrow! ENJOY!

Picked up tickets to this today purely to see Linzi Hateley. What a treat. She really brings a brilliant energy to it, and her vocals are on point. She even seems to be loving the “Sheridan”-isms and throwing herself into the physicality and voice work for every comedy character. I couldn’t take my eyes off her, and I actually think she does a better job than Sheridan Smith did with the new comedy aspects at times, in a large way because she’s just so comfortable with all the material around it.
It’s a REAL shame when the show hits one of the awkward key changes built in for Sheridan Smith’s run as you just know Linzi is holding back and/or pushing to make the lower notes as impactful. But I think that’s understandable and they weren’t going to re-orchestrate the whole show for a few performances.
A fabulous reaction for her again today, though. I do wonder if producers underestimated the excitement her return would create? And if she’d have been offered the role fully had they understood how much the 1991 recording resonates with people who have grown up with it? They really didn’t need Alexandra Burke to give this a star name at all judging by the audience reaction today. Of course, Linzi may well not want to do a full run and chose to pepper some dates as a bit of fun.

I'm going to bite the bullet and try and book a Linzi matinee....never been to the Palladium, can anyone tell me about the following seats?
Stalls Row A 21 and 22 Stalls Row R 18 and 19
I'll be bringing my son, he's 5 (very well behaved and keen theatre lad!) - will he be able to see from the front row?

Saw the Saturday matinee.
It was a nice reintroduction to theatre since Mar 2020 and as a piece of large scale, splashy, pure entertainment I enjoyed it for what it was.
I saw the Kenwright Tour once in 1998 and could remember very little about it. To be honest the script still didn't grab me. It's light as a feather an very un-Andrew Lloyd Webber. I found it curious that in other shows he would deal with the show's themes much in his typically dramatic style!
The ending (not the finale) is a damp squib isn't it?! It was a blink and you'll miss it resolution.
But the audience clearly don't care, and bless them for that!
The show is clearly beloved and the love and excitement was palpable in the audience. I was just gratified to see large groups of people enjoying themselves, (and some common sense at last as around half the audience decided to ditch the mask)
Thought Alexandra Burke was wonderful in the role - great singer, great dancer, great charisma. The role doesn't require much acting so in that way it doesn't expose her weakness.
Jac Yarrow is good, but the role is SO underwritten, I never realised. He barely has any moments to shine, does he?
Couldn't understand a word Mr Donovan was singing. It even felt like he was being deliberately drowned out by the sound engineers.
Special mention for the great choreography! And I loved the absurdity of the children playing the brothers etc with beards - a clever move by Laurence Connor to focus the show like one big kids storytime and celebrate its anachronisms and liberal interpretation of the story - more like a fantasy revue of a Bible story!

Some people may not be convinced about the effectiveness of masks, but I just will never understand the issue with putting a light piece of fabric over your mouth and nose for a couple of hours if there's even the slightest chance it could stop someone else getting sick.

I have grabbed a ticket for the gala night tomorrow as my first solo trip to a show in years!! I have never been to a gala night before, what can I expect from it? Just a decent atmosphere to be honest. You might spot a few "C" list celebrities who were invited. I've been to quite a few and they do vary in the amount of effort/budget goes onto them. At the Phantom anniversary gala, they had limited edition balloons, one of which I was able to nab, and even a glass of plonk on arrival. Apart from that, a usual show with speech from ALW and presentation of a cake after the show, maybe some guests invited on stage. I can't see any of the above happening at Joseph. Maybe a word from Laurence Connor.
