Agree - the show could do with being rethought and directed. It is years since I have seen it - I think with Kiki Dee the last time, whenever that was. I am always one to knock Bill Kenwright but I have to say I generally thought the show was in good shape with a committed cast. It is dated in that it is set in the 80's and it resonated hugely with a Liverpool audience at the time. Some references will mean nothing to most people now - for example the department store George Henry Lee ( long gone ) was the name John Lewis traded under in Liverpool at that time. Blood Brothers is Kenwright's cash cow, until someone else gets the rights, it'll be the same production. I remember seeing the London production years ago and thought it was good but really tired and wasnt that sad to see it go when it eventually closed

It'll take someone to reimagine it before it's appreciated in its current state again.

Buying on the "never never", was a Liverpool expression for buying on hire purchase, with the undertone of loan sharks and never being able to pay off the debt.

I watched this again in Dartford last week. And while I did think Mark looked way too old to play Eddie (especially once he started wearing a suit) the thing that bothered me most about him was how plain boring he was. Sean was still playing Mickey then and while he's not in his teens either he looks younger and he just plays the part so well.
Still love Dean as the Narrator. It's good to see him in a role where he actually gets to show his face (nothing against Shrek in general but I sure had had enough of that green mask after all that time).

Tour started this week in Guildford, and still no information on cast! I know that Danny Taylor is back as Sammy which is fantastic, and of course Sean Jones is still giving a Mickey, other than that no idea!

If Dean is leaving early-December (assuming that that is before the tour ends) then I take it he will be returning to Shrek which opens for the Christmas season. That or panto!

He's not returning to Shrek. And no panto plans either. :-)
The last tour stop of his current contract is Sunderland. At this point it looks like he will not return in 2018 (but that could change).

For anyone interested: Dean Chisnall is the only one leaving the show after the autumn run. The rest of the cast is returning in 2018.

Dean was excellent as the Narrator when I saw him a few months back, but it's my first time seeing the show so I have nothing to compare him too.

Gawd, they need to pension off Paul and Hutchinson. Their age inappropriateness is absolutely glaring in the production.

I loved Lyn Paul in it when I saw it in London, that must have been coming up ten years ago now, I can't believe she is back in it again!

Saw the matinee today in Sunderland, still gets me every time. Lyn Paul a very strong as Mrs J, although my favourite is still Linda Nolan.
Understudy for Mickey who was excellent (didn’t catch the name), although he looked a good 20 years younger than Mark Hutchinson who I really didn’t buy as Eddie- He looks older than the guy playing Mr Lyons!
Instant standing ovation as always.

I was also at the matinee today in Sunderland. The understudy for Mickey was Josh Capper who I thought was very good. It really is time Mark Hutchinson was replaced as Eddie. It's time to give someone a bit younger a go! Have always wanted to see Lyn Paul as Mrs J and she didn't disappoint. Sarah Jane Buckley was also good as Mrs L. Have seen Tim Churchill a few times as Mr L and always gives a stellar performance. Overall an excellent show. Needless to say the tears flowed at the end even though I know what's coming. This is the 11th time I have seen Blood Brothers and would definitely go again when it tours again which it will do of course.
