Oh good. I like Stephanie Lawrence's voice.
At least I know before seeing the show. Still don't know which Jesus Christ Superstar recording to buy!

The 1996 London Revival with Steve Balsamo of course! It doesn't appear to be on itunes when I look though unless they've changed the cover, nor does a Balsamo search bring it up. The inferior Glenn Carter version comes up

I hope it's Lyn Paul. Her voice is fantabulous and no-one will tell me otherwise. She deserves a recording.

I too was there this afternoon. It is years since I have seen Blood Brothers. It still packs a punch! Lynn Paul has a sensational voice but at 67 too old really especially initially when she is supposed to be expecting twins, but as the time frame moved on and considering what she goes through in the plot her age bothered me less as the show went on. The end is still shattering.
I thought Mickey very good (didn't buy a programme - sorry) and Linda good too but Eddie poor and far too old.

Yes I liked Linda, thought she was really great I always think with Mrs J she sings that line 'by time I was 25 I looked 42' so u can always be a bit older and blame that. 56 yr old Eddie is indefensible

Yes we had Mark Hutchinson but he was with a Mickey who looked about the same age so it worked. I saw a picture somewhere of a young Eddie and older Mickey and that looked equally as jarring.

The end is still shattering. I thought Mickey very good (didn't buy a programme - sorry) and Linda good too but Eddie poor and far too old. I saw it in Brighton last night. My first time since seeing it with Melanie C. Was in a crap restricted view seat, so was craning to see much of the downstage left action. I agree that whilst La Paul had a marvellous voice, she was too old for the role (another Glenn Close - Norma D scenario), especially in the parts she talks about having childen. I think it was better when they were getting actresses in their 30's play the role (Melanie, Niki Evans, Helen Hobson, Natasha Hamilton etc) in terms of age appropriateness. I understand we had a new Mickey and Eddie - not the ones currently listed on the official website. I was very impressed with both of them. Mickey particularly because his boyish looks and frame lent itself far better to playing a 7 and 14 year old. I still think it's a wonderful musical - however it's age is REALLY showing, stylistically. In terms of musical direction, I would tear up the accompaniment and start again. It's cringingly dated a lot of the time. Also the melodramatic aspects look very incongruous and out of step with how a story of this type would be presented now. i.e. not naturalistic enough. I would love to get my hands on it and completely redirect it, because the essence of it is superb. I'd forgotten how important the Mickey and Eddie scenes are and how well the dialogue works simply in play form. I'll be old and grey before it's ever released to the amateur market!! And there is no doubt that the show never fails to connect with it's audience. Full standing ovation last night - like every time I've seen it over the past 20 years.

Just count yourself lucky they haven't drafted Colleen into the Blood Brothers franchise! I was in the audience of Loose Women recently (don't ask). At the end of the show we had to dance along to Coleen singing a song, accompanied by Curly Watts, John Thompson and Bear from Big Brother (dressed as a postman). I then knew what a very bad trip must feel like!! HAHAHA! You couldn't make it up! Actually, I'd LOVE to be in the audience of Loose Women!

I know right!? Luckily he was actually pretty good but pretty sure he is older than the actors playing his parents. And it was laughable him and Micky where brothers

It's ironic that Mark plays an 8 year old in Act 1.... and at 50 he could be his own Grandfather!

Agree - the show could do with being rethought and directed. It is years since I have seen it - I think with Kiki Dee the last time, whenever that was.
I am always one to knock Bill Kenwright but I have to say I generally thought the show was in good shape with a committed cast. It is dated in that it is set in the 80's and it resonated hugely with a Liverpool audience at the time. Some references will mean nothing to most people now - for example the department store George Henry Lee ( long gone ) was the name John Lewis traded under in Liverpool at that time.

Haha. Yeah we had the discussion about George Henry Lee (which I went to before they went generic) after the show and how we liked the different names for John Lewis stores. FYI my local was called Trewins.
One thing I didn't know was what the 'never never' was.
