Couldn't find an existing thread on this one - mods feel free to merge if I've missed it!
Off to see the latest round of the Blood Brothers tour tonight in Liverpool - one of my favourite shows and am really looking forward to seeing it "at home" as it were.
Thankfully no Marti Pellow this time, Dean Chisnall is the new Narrator. Thought he was very good in Shrek, so looking forward to seeing his interpretation.
Lyn Paul as Mrs J - first time I haven't seen Maureen Nolan in years!
Will report back on my thoughts later on!

I saw Marti in Blood Brothers - personally I found that role far more suited to him than something like Che for example.
I wonder what shape Lyn Paul's voice is in nowadays. Her belt in TABOO was to die for...
Is this the scaled down tour? Or a tour with a fully fleshed out set?

She has (had?) a great voice, but she's way too old to be playing Mrs J. She's 67!

She'd at least have age on her side! There are any number of name recognition C-listers that could sell this and be more appropriate. Whatever happened to Tracey Shaw from Corrie? Natalie Powers who was in Scooch/ex-West End star? Gina Murray? Put a capable name in one of the other roles and give Mrs J to someone with a voice ffs!

Dean doesn't seem suited at all to this role. I would be interested to see him though.
Is it the same Mickey, his brother and Mrs Lyons who seem to have been in it since the beginning of time?!

Just count yourself lucky they haven't drafted Colleen into the Blood Brothers franchise! I was in the audience of Loose Women recently (don't ask). At the end of the show we had to dance along to Coleen singing a song, accompanied by Curly Watts, John Thompson and Bear from Big Brother (dressed as a postman). I then knew what a very bad trip must feel like!! |

Holy sh*tballs Dean Chisnall is good!! He's really exceeding my expectations and his voice is a lot stronger than I remember it being in Shrek. Lyn Paul is very good...but no scouse accent?! And she looks more like Mickey's Gran than his mother... Sean Evans is Mickey as he has has been for god knows how many years and he's still absolutely brilliant. Relatively new Eddie, seen a few times but don't think he's been in more than a couple of years, very good though. Brand new Mrs Lyons and Sammy - both are good, but neither are a patch on their long-running predecessors Tracey Spencer and Danny Taylor respectively. Liverpool audience are loving it (as am I!), it's really great to see the show in its home city  |

This really should pop back into the west end for a quick spell around Christmas. Still feels odd having other shows at the Phoenix. I think ATG will never have it back at the Phoenix and they're likely making more in rent from all the previous shows they've had since Blood Brothers than when BB was there |

Saw this tonight, Dean Chisnall was fabulous as the Narrator - what an amazing voice. Loved the guys playing Mickey and Eddie too. Lyn Paul is good but doesn't quite have the voice to pull off all the numbers. It was my first time seeing Blood Brothers, and I hadn't appreciated what a gripping story it has....or how long the show was!

Saw this in Birmingham last night. I'm biased but I thought Dean Chisnall's Narrator was fantastic. Some great acting choices. And that voice - always pure bliss to listen to.
Lyn Paul was great but she really looks a bit too old.
Really like Joel Benedict as Eddie. Glad I managed to catch him (he's leaving next week). And it feels like Sean Jones has been with the show forever but he really is perfect as Mickey.
The show does look a bit dated but it's such a great story. I don't mind they are using props that have possibly been with the show for 20 years (at least they look like it). The show just works and I think the current cast is well worth seeing.

Dean Chisnall is staying on for the 2017 leg of the tour.
Mark Hutchinson is playing Eddie until the end of the year (they really are pushing it age wise - he is 57).

I'm not denying that and if he plays the part well I have no problem ignoring the fact he's slightly too "mature" for the role. :-)
After all I enjoyed seeing Lyn Paul too and she really can't pull off mid twenties anymore either.

Do we know if Sean Jones is finishing the 2016 run? I believe the last week or 2 clash with his panto rehearsals.

Don't ever recall there being a souvenir brochure, but of course that doesn't mean there isn't one! Also, I know I like a lot of the songs, so which recording would people recommend? 1995 London Cast is the one that I listen to on Spotify and it's great! |
