It was this production that went back into the WE at the end of the last tour wasn't it? With Pellow and Madalena Alberto. It got a very lukewarm reception if I remember correctly.

I was watching a clip of Patti on Broadway and Peron was hamming up the accent summat rotten. Every "r" was rrrrrrrrrrrrrolled to the max. Very odd!

I must say, I'm not too big a fan of Patti's Evita vocally. She seems to play it like an absolute pshyco, which I know Patti does alot, but I much preferred the way Emma performed the role than Patti seemed too.

And before people hate, love Patti!

Amazing! didn't quite stop the show in the literal sense but it was an utterly outstanding moment.

The more I think about it today, the more I have a little crush on Peron...I'll see myself out.

True. I saw it's London stint and thought Madelena Alberto, Matthew Cammelle and Ben Forster were sensational in their roles, and made up for the weakness of Pellow.

Good grief that video of Patti is a bit OTT!
I much preferred Emma's interpretation. And I'd have to agree that this tour is better than the London revival from 2007. I was very disappointed with that.

Yes, apart from the tango theme throughout, I don't think Michael Grandage got that production right. Don't think he truly understood the material.

Saw this last night purely to see Emma as she was my first Elphaba and unlike most I really loved her and saw her three times. Just before curtain up we got an announcement saying Emma wasn't on which was obviously hugely disappointing but c'est la vie. Natalie Langston, the understudy for Eva was absolutely fantastic and had an amazing voice, probably as good as Emma's to be honest! In terms of the show it wasn't really for me. I prefer shows like Hairspray and Dreamgirls where it's lively and there's so much going on at once so I was a bit bored at points, I don't really think it's aimed at teenagers anyway. The show was an amazing production though with brilliant performances from all the leads and the music was very beautiful and perhaps I would have enjoyed the show more if I'd listened to the soundtrack, sorry, cast recording, before and got familiar with it. The story though I thought wasn't really there. Act I especially seemed to fly by without much at all happening. So to sum up, I think it's a fantastic show with great music but it maybe just wasn't for me and the night was a bit stained by Emma not being there, though I hope she's ok.

You may find its a grower LaLuPone, I don't think I liked it that much the first time I saw it, which would have been the film, but I love it now. And certainly if you're into your bright and frothy Hairsprays and D-girls it might have been a bit of a downer, as it's not exactly a bucket of laughs is it.

You're right though, the music is beautiful and I'm still singing and humming from when I saw it last week. I've never counted how many times ALW uses the same refrains across multiple different songs but its a LOT. He pretty much bashes you over the head with it.

Give it another try if it comes round again, you might find yourself falling for it

I think I will give it another go if it comes somewhere near, I saw online that there are more tour dates to be announced, hoping for Swansea or Malvern. I'll give the cast recording a listen now, see if the show grows on me once I'm more familiar with the music. Hopefully next time I can catch Emma but I needn't worry if not, everyone's in safe hands with Natalie!

So big stressful week in Sunderland, Emma did a sound check on Tuesday but then felt sick straight after so she went home, Natalie Langston did Tuesday-Thursday (5 shows) and last night Natalie had to call out last minute due to a throat infection which I'm gathering Emma must have too, so the show started around 15-20 minutes late and Kellie Gnauck made her Eva debut! I doubt Emma & Natalie will be on today due to illness so Kellie Gnauck will most likely be on for Eva at both shows today! The tour goes to Germany next week so let's hope everyone is well again!

As said above, Emma is missing both performances today. Hopefully it isn't anything too serious that she is ill with, because she won't be allowed to travel to Germany if she is too ill!

Natalie was saying a throat infection seems to be going round which is what Natalie currently has, so I presume that's what Emma has too

Yeah that's the main posters they use, there are a few Emma & Gian ones and they're on the programmes but that's it
