Her Satine was pretty much the only good thing about MR when I saw it. The Bodyguard is very slight but certainly good entertainment, and Zoe has already proven herself in the role.

Those Whitney songs are not easy though so you need a real vocalist to pull them off night after night.

Alexandra Burke struggled, if the performances I saw her in were anything to go by. We hear so many people doing covers and appearing to do a half decent job for a one-off performance that I think people underestimate how hard the songs are. Severe misgivings about Melody Thornton after last nights Musicals show. All that riffing and the ridiculous “applaud me now” pause at the end? Self indulgent! Concentrate on hitting the notes dear.

I actually enjoyed Melody’s performance last night, and it even made me want to see the show again! It’s coming to Bournemouth in the summer so would be a good school holiday treat for my teacher sister.
But not keen on booking until I know who’s taking over from Melody. Excited by the talk of Zoe Birkett as a possibility! Anyone have any idea when we might hear?

Everything was very clipped and ‘simple’ but she certainly didn’t disgrace herself. If she can dodge her way through ‘I Have Nothing’ it might be worth a punt.

I thought Melody was brilliant last night, preferred to Alexandra. Problem is though no one can compare to Whitney. I do agree though the ending and tears and pauses for applause was a bit much, but she isn't the first singer or actor to do that.

Loved Beverly Knight in this, she was fab. Never saw Alex but she struggled in Joseph with certain notes and I wasn’t a fan of all the warbling. Haven’t seen Zoe Birkett but I saw her in Priscilla a lot and she is a powerhouse. If she was to go back in the Bodyguard id deffinately go and see her…

Bev in this was an absolute marvel - she's one of this countries best singers and to see her sing those songs was a real treat. Also enjoyed Heather Headley because again, the voice.

Melody can just about hit the notes but I don't find her voice very pleasing on the ear when she belts, she sounds strained.
AB always sounded great when I saw her. Never saw Bev but would have liked to.

I saw Heather, Alexandra and Beverley in this, and I’d say Beverley has the edge. She makes it look effortless, has great stage presence and could sing the phone book and I’d be straight online to book tickets!

Was lucky enough to see Beverley Knight at the Adelphi and her performance completely made the show. Can’t imagine how it would be with a less than stellar singer and have no intention of finding our!

I'll see it sometime and I fully intend to go see a matinee where the alternate is on.
Last time it toured with Alexandra I inadvertently saw a show where the last alternate Jennlee Shallow was on and she was fabulous.

Melody was much better than I expected on the BBC ONE show - literally one of the most recognisable and difficult songs to sing. But she made some really nice choices. And while I don't love every part of her voice, I was quite impressed. Beverly and Alex on another level, but Whitney is in ONE league of her own, so there will always be compromises. Melody - huge challenge - great effort.

Absolutely - it’s always going to be a tough gig trying to emulate one of the greatest vocalists of all time, singing incredibly well known songs, and then deliver that night after night!

Especially when I think back to the original staging at the Adelphi.
