I found the review itself more fascinating. To be plagued with technical issues isn't great. That said, when I saw opening night in Stoke I was surprised to see the inability for the automated follow spot lighting to light performers, as they were always out of sync - so much so they seemed to rush up an emergency manual follow spot in the gods.

I'm shocked that a newspaper apparently takes the view that audiences at a stage musical should be allowed to sing along. To my mind it's even worse behaviour than talking or looking at a mobile phone during a performance and totally unacceptable. It's theatre, not karaoke.
Fortunately none of the above happened near to me when I saw The Bodyguard at Dartford on opening night last week.

Typical level of “journalism” by the MEN.

Don’t they realise the majority of theatre-goers don’t pay £40/£50 for a ticket to hear Sharon from Salford ruining Run To You or I Will Always Love You?!

Zoey Birkitt is rejoining the production as Rachel Great news, I’ve just seen she’s been confirmed for Bournemouth. Now I want to go, but I’m still traumatised by the video BurlyBeaR posted so not sure I should!

I saw a video on Twitter. Someone was literally screaming "I will always love you" like they were at the pub karaoke. Awful. I feel so sorry for anyone who was sat around them.

Full scale riot st the theatre tonight. Staff absolutely terrified, riot police attended! Show abandoned. What will it take to make these people stop? Someone going over the balcony on the Top Tier, which was allegedly a distinct possibility tonight as people were fighting very close to the “edge”. I have s family member who works FOH, thankfully not there tonight. I often worry for their safety as it is commonplace for young female employees to be assaulted. It’s not clickbait by MEN, this is happening on a regular basis and someone is going to get very hurt or worse very soon,

Agree that there could be a fatality some time soon, with drunken aggressive people at the edge of balconies. Or simply falling objects on those below. Alison Hammond's own party are reported to have been told twice at 'Bake Off' Musical to remove objects from the ledge in front of them.
Terrible video here, on this tweet (the first one) illustrates the abusive singing/screaming mentioned a couple of posts above in this thread.

Some blame definitely lies with the This Morning presenters - a Front Of House member of stuff has tweeted tonight that This Morning was quoted to them in justification by some audience members tonight. Tonight's specific events are not a random coincidence (though it is of course a wider problem).

Maybe they could address it ?

Melody sounds fantastic too, such a shame for the rest of the audience who had their night ruined and for the cast.

It’s not clickbait by MEN, this is happening on a regular basis and someone is going to get very hurt or worse very soon, The paper have been very much going down the This Morning route of blaming the theatre for being killjoys and not letting people enjoy themselves, rather than reporting accurately on what really is happening.

Even without the person singing along the level of background noise in that clip is insane.

The performer sounds incredible in that clip. Imagine paying £50,£60, £70 to hear Sharon from Manchester butcher the song over that incredible voice. I’d be fuming.

From the clip it looks like the problem people were up in the Grand Tier. It’s horrifyingly steep up there. How anyone could be safely removed if they didn’t want to be I have no idea.

The MEN journalist who couldn't believe that people weren't allowed to sing at The Bodyguard earlier in the week is apparently now equally shocked at the audience behaviour last night, with no apparent awareness that her article is part of the problem.

I don't even know where to start with all of this.
Other than as people have said it's only a matter of time until something truly horrific happens like someone going over a Circle/Balcony and plunging to the ground below. Terrifying.
It all feels a bit bleak. The only thing I can think of that would stop it are a triple whammy of breathalysing everyone at the door, proper bag searches to eliminate all alcohol smuggled in and no alcohol being served in the venues. All of which is rather unfair to the majority of people who can enjoy it responsibly. And clearly this triple whammy will never happen.
But alcohol has been implicated in 99% of the extreme bad behaviour I have witnessed in my theatre going career.
Grim. And the poor poor staff that work in these places.

But alcohol has been implicated in 99% of the extreme bad behaviour I have witnessed in my theatre going career. Grim. And the poor poor staff that work in these places. I’m not sure if I am 100% correct here but I believe that the theatre makes virtually nothing from Ticket sales, the revenue goes to IMG, hence the need to sell alcohol.I have been offered a bottle of wine when I really only wanted a glass as it’s cheaper! No wonder people become problematic. As I’ve said before my daughter works FOH at thePslace and Opera House. She has recently graduated drama school and like so many others works at the theatre to make ends meet. She has spent a huge amount of time supervising the Grand Tier, and has witnessed some vile behaviour from audiences. I am so glad she wasn’t there last night, but several of her colleagues were, and it was terrifying for them. I live in fear that someone could go over the balcony. I’m at a loss really to know where to begin with all this.
