It's a brave and fab show, just a nutty one for the Barbican to do - especially since this is a commercial venture as Anything Goes was last summer. Well, the NY production (which was praised to the skies) discounted continually so this one, which has already been panned by some of the London critics who saw it in NY, faces a challenge. It's as simple as that, all shills to the contrary notwitstanding.
Let's hope this cast is fronted by a leading man who can navigate a run -- the NY lead was indisposed an awful lot, or showed up and then left at the half, and at one point the show's creator went on himself, or else the musical wouldn't have. The Broadway chatrooms on all this are a story in themselves.

Audience members who can feel satisfied if at least one element of a production really resonates with them—i.e, music, story, staging, performances—should find something to like in A Strange Loop. I greatly enjoyed how this show combines all of them, but some individual elements won't be everyone's cup of tea.

Can anyone who has access to the tickets give me a heads up as to what the pricing is like for this? Is it crazy expensive for a central seat like My Neighbour Totorro?

Can't wait for this!
Was devastated when I missed it on Broadway.

Stagedoor and Seatplan both have pre-sales today before general on-sale tomorrow.

promo code is intheloop on the barbican website, got a £10 ticket for previews (they only showed up once I logged in to my account). I thought for £10 I can check it out!

Where are the £10 seats located? I couldn't find £10 seats for any of the previews (cheapest one is £20) so I am guessing they sold out.

Where are the £10 seats located? They are only available for Young Barbican members, but on the ends of row D I saw some and scattered at the back of the stalls and upper levels throughout previews

Those comfy armchairs at the Barbie are a major draw. I was on the extreme side around row D for Anything Goes and it was a great view.

But is it actually for the general theatre goer? I go to the theatre more than your average human, and I see challenging and difficult work...I cannot get more than three tracks into the cast recording without being bored stiff and having to give up as I'm not connecting to it at all. From what I can gather, it's target audience is not a good match for the core audience of the Barbican (which, if we are honest with ourselves, is likely to be white, upper-middle class and likely older) - this feels like something you'd see at the Young Vic for 8 weeks. And to call it a hit is subjective - it's the second shortest running Tony-winning Best Musical after Passion...take from that what you will. I will go, on an offer which will be available, out of curiosity more than anything else... I wouldn’t bother putting yourself through it, if it bored you that much. You’ll only end up leaving at the interval 😂

Anyone have a sense of how well it's selling? Taking a look at a selection of random dates on the Barbican website - not good. Is it too early to say? That don’t seem to be doing any publicity. Which is odd. I don’t really know how these things work in terms of ticket sales.

I think despite its success it is may be a relatively hard musical to sell over here. I had to read the synopsis to get some idea of it, and I still can't imagine it.
It's far easier to sell a film or tv tie-in that something original and unique.

I am seeing Sponsored Ads for it on Facebook which do focus on the number of awards it won in NYC, not specifically Tonys. Also describes it as a "one time" run in London which seems a bit odd given they can't possibly know it won't get a revival at the Union in 2032. It is a bit of a strange beast of a musical and I do agree with those that have said the Barbican is an odd place for it. I saw it in NYC and thought parts of it were thrilling but parts of it a bit messy. I strongly want to see it again in London but I think there will be deals, so I'm waiting for those rather than paying the high asking prices at the moment.

Part messy and part thrilling seems to be Micharl R. Jackson's modus operandi as his newest NYC production (White Girl in Danger) is being described with those exact words.

This has starting casting here now. So no American cast. 🎭 That's a shame. No doubt we have some wonderful performers in the UK who can step into those mighty shoes, but seeing the original cast who had been with the show over the years of development and off-Broadway in NY was off-the-scale brilliant. I'd love to have seen them reprise their roles here, especially John-Andrew Morrison, L.Morgan Lee and Jaquel Spivey. Sadly I agree with some other people on this strand about the suitability of The Barbican for this show. I know producers have to take what they can get, but it would be much better suited in my opinion, to a more intimate space like The Dorfman or Donmar. Aside from the possible dramatic distancing problem, I hope they don't end up with poorly attended shows. I'm curious to see how much accommodation will be made in the script for a UK audience as there were certainly a few references in the show that I didn't get at all on my first visit. Personally I don't think ASL is a niche show. Edgy for sure and definitely not a Shaftesbury Avenue fodder, but it has so much to say and to think about afterwards. I was enormously moved and uplifted by it and on the surface have nothing in common with the big picture themes of the piece. If people are on the fence about seeing it, I'd suggest listening to the glorious OBC recording (perhaps giving 'Inwood Daddy' a miss until you see it in context!).

I agree with the advice about skipping Inwood Daddy. While I found that scene incredibly powerful on stage, I have a really hard time listening to it in the cast recording. I wish the album had given that one a miss, or at least removed the most gruesome talking bits.
