I would be over the moon if this happens - hopefully STRANGE LOOP, NEXT TO NORMAL, the revival of GROUNDHOG DAY and impending remount of TAMMY FAYE can dispel the stink over London left by MANDELA, SYLVIA and (imoho) STANDING AT THE SKY'S EDGE (London theatre's latest musical misfire which serves as Exhibit A in style over substance).

STANDING ON THE SKY'S EDGE It's AT...STANDING AT THE SKY'S EDGE. It’s also so very very very far from being a musical misfire and an example of style over substance imo

Well, I will credit them with a very apt title. It certainly had me and my fellow theatregoers wanting to be standing at the edge of something to escape the tedium and pretentiousness.....and that second act song that was along the lines of, "This Girl Can't Take It Anymore"....that rang so, so true for our little group that we couldn't help but giggle.

It's probably the Gielgud.

Saw this twice in New York - it’s not a show I ever would have expected to come to the West End (perhaps somewhere like the Young Vic).
It’s a great show. But I definitely won’t be taking my mother!

Oops! Don’t know how to copy a tweet! But Mr Woodward hints “it may go into a theatre named after an Olympian deity“

Hmm. This show had a tough time finding an audience on Broadway so I imagine it might be a bit of the same in London. Definitely worth a visit if the subject matter holds interest for you.
Jackson's next musical, White Girl in Danger, opens shortly in NYC.

Unexpected news, but exciting. I would love to see this!
Thanks also for the info on Jackson’s new musical. I didn’t know about it, so will have to look into it now.

It will be interesting to see if this finds an audience in London, the crowd I saw it with at the Lyceum seemed to give a very mixed reaction. I think a lot were there just because it won a Tony (not a bad thing, not judging them for this!) but there were a lot of raised eyebrows and confused looks.
Personally, I liked it, the lead was OUTSTANDING and some of the questions raised/themes explored gave me food for thought, which is one of the main reasons I attend theatre in the first place. Having said that, I'm not sure if I would go out of my way to see it again.

Confused! When you said "crucible" I thought you meant "A strange loop" was going to Sheffield Crucible then the "god awful production" was "A strange Loop" not the NT's Crucible My head hurts! Maybe 'Being Clear' is sometimes even better than just 'Being Alive'.
