I thought all the same things (regarding missing children), but also that you have to accept this as complete fantasy. You won’t enjoy it if you expect it to make any sense.

I thought the same watching it. Why is nobody bothered about this missing boy? Why didn't they check his documents when starting the job (I cannot even go to an interview without bringing my passport) In all seriousness this is pretty poor. Kimberley Walsh is the saving grace because she can sing, act and is very charming but Jay is really struggling to connect with audience, Wendy Peters shouldn't be playing the mother of a newborn baby and thank the lord for Matthew Kelly; one of the UK's finest actors. 1 Why aren’t people bothered about a missing boy 2 If his friend knows he is being kept - why not pressure him? 3 What happened to the father? 4 What happened to the policeman! 5 How did Josh get the deposit for the huge penthouse? 6 How much was josh seriously getting paid as a “toy tester?” 7 Why isn’t the mother a quivering wreck as he son is missing instead of singing sweet songs about stopping time? 8 We didn’t fancy women 10 years older than us aged 13 so how did the love affair story even make sense? I have soooo many questions with the holes in this show! |

I took Young to this tonight. They loved it, I found it pretty bland and forgettable to be honest. It should sell fairly well over half term though.

Nicely surprised by this, I had listened to the Broadway recording once or twice many years back and I read “Making it Big” whilst at uni so knew a bit of the show.
The great thing I thought was the production as a whole. Certainly not cheap, the set is very impressive. I thought Jay was fine, Kimberly good and the remainder of the cast good, but the kids were really great. The score isn’t the strongest but I did have familiarity with it so was enjoyable to see it in context. Might have to have another listen as I see the new recording is on Spotify.
I just don’t think this is the right venue for the show. The theatre was fairly busy tonight in the stalls and the audience were appreciative.
Glad I went.

Saw this last Friday night.
Can anyone tell me is there meant to be an illusion at the end ?
From what I saw Jay walked into the wings and the child walked on !
PS I did go home singing the scenery which was the best thing in it (apart from Jay in his pants - briefly)

Saw the matinee yesterday. Always been a fan of this since the 1996 broadway recording. Have to say had a great afternoon. As people have said the production values are great the cast worked really hard.. Jay and Kimberly were really strong and kids were great
Yes its not going to change the world in terms of plot and second act book has a few issues but overall audience loved it. Credit to the production company for not scrimping and sticking with it !

Anyone know if this is likely to tour? I'd be surprised. Well, without significant redesign. Is designed for longer sit downs at bigger theatres, and not convinced the demand is there for 4 weeks at Manchester Palace etc etc. Also not sure how well it sold at full price in London and if it made much profit. (That said when I went was pretty much full, despite seating plan having looked empty a couple of weeks before). |

Saw it again this afternoon...excuse the pun but it’s a big-hearted show with a lovely vibrant score and a cast who seem to be loving every minute.A very slick production and the four leads are excellent.Once had the pleasure of working with Matthew Kelly and the man is a true professional and an absolute gent.
