Much excitement at the world-famous Crucible Theatre yesterday and today. As a producing house, it's very rare to see a Paul Mathew pantechnicon parked in the scenery dock. Must have been delivering the helicopter!  Then today, they've got the team in to literally make it fly.  Its gonna be epic! |

Anyone heard anything re the orchestra make up for this?
Kinda hoping it's gonna be the Prince Edward (and subsequents) orchestration (14 ish parts??) but wondering if will be more in the style of this new production for it to have been Oklahoma'd!

This will be my first trip to the Crucible (I hear it’s world-famous.) Thankfully I’m going the week before the strikes. Still no guarantee the damn trains will actually show up though.

A fraction of the cost and not always much slower. 2 and a half hours to Victoria vs a 2 hour drive, parking, tube to Victoria.(although I notice that you are NOT permitted to take frozen food on board wtf?).
See also Flixbus, who started off with rubbish old coaches but have a decent fleet now with usb ports AND EVERYTHING!

I must say I'm very impressed with the staff at Sheffield Theatres. Very helpful when I just phoned to explain I couldn't get there because of train strikes and changed my ticket within minutes.

They were very helpful with me also, though sadly couldn't offer me a refund for the 15th, just an exchange. Understandable but I can't come another day for an exchange. And on that note, there's a good seat up for sale on the noticeboard, should anyone be looking for one.

I’m going to the evening show on the 15th of July and making a weekend of it, never been to Sheffield before (to be honest I’ve never really been north of Birmingham before!!!) so was after some advice of the must-sees and must-dos of Sheffield? Any advice greatly appreciated!

Any advice greatly appreciated! Sheffield can be slightly hit and miss and never sells itself all that well! Places walking distance from Sheffield Centre worth visiting depending on your interests: Winter Garden, Millenium Gallery, Peace Gardens with the gorgeous backdrop of the Town Hall, Botanical Gardens, Weston Park (Garden and museum), Cathedral, Kelham Island museum, Victoria Quays canal basin. It does have some wonderful old buildings around the city as well as many an eye sore. For shopping there is Meadowhall (or Meadowhell depending on who you ask), the main town centre and Ecclesall/Sharrow Vale. There are some great walks, I like Rivelin Valley or Wyming Brook but you also have the Peak District National Park on the doorstep with some great walks and villages and easily accessible by bus if you don't have a car. Food wise there are some great spots The Kommune is good if lots of people who might want different choices or Pedlars Market which is normally on 1st weekend of each month. A definite must do is see the Hendos relish image in the train station! If you're interested in football Sheffield FC the oldest club play in Dronfield. |

Rehearsals are going so well, the cast were allowed to leave early on Friday. It's so sweet how they all walk about with their accreditation on full display, hanging around their necks. LaLuPone, apart from theatre, what are your other interests? If you saw Standing at the Sky's Edge, Park Hill, on the opposite side of the valley, is well within walking distance of the world-famous Crucible Theatre. There's a well-regarded cafe in one of the blocks, and if you carry on up the hill, with Park Hill on your left, you'll come to South Street amphitheatre, which affords a magnificent view of half the city. In order to avoid disappointment, I feel I should warn first-time visitors that Sheffield is not like Manchester or Leeds. It is much more low-key and doesn't have the buzz or swagger of either. We are a really friendly bunch, though! |

I hope it's OK to ask here, but maybe others may benefit from an answer too.
Is there anywhere to leave luggage for a few hours? Would the theatre do it? It seems the station doesn't offer left luggage service.
I will be arriving from London in the early afternoon, but my local friend won't be able to join me until the evening (when I can put my suitcase into her car boot), so right now it's either going for a sightseeing walk with my suitcase in tow or just parking myself somewhere in a cafe for the afternoon.
