I saw the same effect in used in Message in a Bottle which had an equally chilling scene on a boat. The projections are really effective when used like that. There was one of a helicopter that I thought looked a bit naff though. I think it was actually a projection of ceiling fan wasn't it? Maybe they changed it from earlier in the run, but it looked like a flat silhouette of a helicopter that just rose straight up vertically with no animation to it other than the blades moving.

Do you know, I miss Miss Saigon, which I think we can all agree was another critical and commercial success for the world-famous Crucible Theatre. In no way, shape or form was this a one-star production! The atmosphere at the final performance was just as electric as I thought it would be, with, as posted above by Rozzi Rainbow, even the non-existent helicopter receiving an extended round of applause. All night, arms in the air, poor Chris Poon, the conductor, had to wait...and wait...and wait. At the very end, after the bows, the whole cast joined together in a huge group hug, then formed a circle and danced along to the playout music, which the majority of the audience stayed for. If I've had major withdrawal symptoms all week, it must feel even more strange for the cast. I was listing to a theatrical landlady talking to someone in the Winter Garden. She'd had a young man living in her attic since May! What I have taken some comfort from is the size of the Ron Hull skip in the scenery dock. It's just the standard size, not the extra-large ones they order for scenery. A good sign, I hope. I suppose I could have been one of the last 1,000 people to have seen this new production. Somehow, I suspect not.

I will stand hanging if this doesn’t transfer.

I will stand hanging if this doesn’t transfer. I hope you’re right! Theatrical event of the year! (Other than Bad Cinderella, obvs).

Somehow, I suspect not. Agree with all. It truly was something special. I had such contained expectations and it blew them through the roof. Had no idea Miss Saigon could be so incredible in non mega musical format but it really was. I’d give 6 stars if I could!

Any chance this will transfer or would CM want to veto a non replica coming to town?

Just going off social media, but Boublil, Schönberg and MacKintosh all attended rehearsals and were audience members later in the run too. Hoping that’s a good sign as you’d think they wouldn’t bother with travelling to Sheffield multiple times if they thought it was a dud.

Given sensitivities particularly with the political mindset of Londoners, I think unlikely. There’s literally a play called **** Miss Saigon in the Young Vic right now so if it were to return, it’ll probably do a second run in Sheffield rather than travel down.
Speaking of Young Vic, Something else might be heading into that theatre though…

Saigon ran for just fine for two years at the Prince Edward in recent memory, and the play at the Young Vic has very little to say really when you actually look at it.
There's no reason this shouldn't come to London - if CamMack thinks it worthy he'll bring it in.

Despite running at the height of summer, a traditionally quite time of year for regional theatres, the production at the world-famous Crucible Theatre was seen by over 35,000 people, with over 30% of those attending a Sheffield Theatres production for the first time, including many TB members.
As my good friend has pointed out above, CamMack didn't become a billionaire by passing on opportunities when they're handed to him.
And congratulations are due to Jessica Lee, who won Best Performer in a Musical at The Stage Debut Awards on Sunday night.

Does anyone know the Crucible's summer plans for this year? They always have a terrific summer show. A revival of Miss Saigon would be epic, but I reckon they wouldn't do that again
