Love that it’s Jo Ampil who is the first female engineer. Her history with the show is lengthy and she is, for want of a better comparison, the UK’s Lea Salonga. She can certainly reimagine long set roles effectively; her Bloody Mary in Chichester’s South Pacific was anything but a comedy, light relief character, rather a dark almost spiritual force. I would have been worried, but with the team involved it will be a worthwhile experiment if nothing else.

I'm surprised it's taken this long to have a female Engineer in Miss Saigon.
Miss Saigon has always made changes to the casting, the Broadway production had an Asian Ellen later in the run which to me was kind of genius casting because it changes the dynamic between her, Chris and Kim.

Anyway, I am really looking forward to this; fascinated to see what they do with it. And after the recent (ish) West End revival and subsequent tour (which I caught in Manchester and was simply stunning) it's great to have Miss Saigon back in the UK so soon. Truly one of the best scores ever written IMHO.
Are Sheffield Crucible known as a producing house? Confess to not knowing much about them but had thought (perhaps wrongly) they were mainly a receiving house for tours. And snooker.

I’ll be booking at least one trip to Miss Saigon! Will you be travelling by train BurlyBeaR? At least at that time of year it will be light enough to see the Peak District in all it's glorious magnificence. |

Definitely booking for this - I love MISS SAIGON. Superior to LES MIS in my opinion (and I love that piece too). I remember seeing the UK tour (around 2005?) and falling head over heels for it. I went to the recent West End revival and didn’t love it as much, but I am looking forward to seeing this “reimagining” in Sheffield.

I don’t think they’ll go anywhere near trying to recreate the helicopter. Even the touring version of that effect was stunningly executed. From the stalls I could almost feel my ears blowing back. It’s become so iconic that even if it wasn’t for the fact that it has to be designed for a very large thrust stage I think the Crucible would want do it quite differently.

Really simple pricing structure: £15, £25, £35 and £45. Be warned that prices will rise if there's high demand.   Anyone planning on seeing Standing at the Sky's Edge and Miss Saigon may wish to consider a subscription. |

I actually did get a subscription for this - limited dates I could do and I have a few specific favourite seats at the crucible, so got what I wanted the night before press night. I’m not completely sold on the idea of a female engineer but I am completely sold on Joanna Ampil so will go with an open mind.

Pretty painless booking process, was put in a queue at 1 minute to 10 and was in within a couple of minutes and managed to get 2 of the £35 seats for £5 each due to being under 26, fantastic deal and what a great way to get young people into the theatre!

Not painless for me so far, couldn't pay because cardholder field empty but there's no cardholder field... trying again on laptop rather than phone so back in the queue.

Also got exactly what I wanted for a Saturday matinee with no problems at all.
Reasonable prices, one of my favourite musicals and one of my favourite theatres too so well worth the 400 mile round trip. Ticket received immediately and already printed, diaried and filed.
