Didn't see that coming, wonderful venue for it. Thought it would go into the Bridge instead.
I wonder if this will be done in the round.

Interestingly - "In association with Eva Price, Sonia Friedman Productions and Michael Harrison". So 3 commercial producers already attached makes me think it will probably transfer after its run at the Young Vic (relatively short run at 2 months).

They said that about Fun Home though didn’t they. This is presumably very tourable? Are the regions ready for a sexy, dark and visceral Oklahoma though? 🥺

The UK is a somewhat conservative place for theatre ticket sales particularly outside of London.

Such fantastic news and the perfect venue for it. I was really hoping this would make its way over to the UK.

My 70-something year old parents love the film so I was excited to look at booking this to take them to see it. Slightly concerned about the descriptions of this being a dark and sexy interpretation - just how dark and sexy are we talking? Will they likely still enjoy this if they like the film?

Best thing I can suggest is watch this trailer. It's darker and grittier than traditional productions.

Only if they are ready to accept that this is nothing whatsoever like the film - it's basically updated to a modern barn dance setting with modern attire and a really ridiculous one-woman modern dance dream ballet that bored the socks off me. I was lucky enough to catch it on Broadway and had a great time, because I love refreshing and yet respectful interpretations (much like the re-located Carousel at the Open Air Theatre this summer), but it really is nothing like the traditional setting most people would expect. Sexy? Depends on casting, I suppose. Damon Daunno WAS sexy, but that was about it...

The type of people who dominate the ticket sales for classic shows in London are not the type to typically be huge fans of modern versions. Plus they not as likely to book tickets after seeing a trailer but on the name value of the musical. But it did pretty well on Broadway so should be able to find a new audience.

Great it's going to the Young Vic so it can stay in traverse. If it's a hit I'd say it will follow Cabaret into The Playhouse.

With the money they've spent on Cabaret, I reckon they'll be rotating star casting in that production for as long as possible (I can see it being around for a couple of years)

I can see it doing two rotations which might take it into 2023. Not sure it will do the 21 months the 2006 revival did.
