Yes, so Oklahoma couldn’t transfer until at least then, so the buzz would be lost. IMHO Oklahoma isn’t good enough to transfer. I also think it’s probably too “experimental” to really have a long run as tourists will want their old fashioned version. That was part of the problem on Broadway, even though it did well critically. You do know not every show has to be a long runner or appeal to tourists...

Of course…but in commercial theater, producers do need to weigh the viability of making a profit.

It’s opening in the West End Feb 2023. Best guess Wyndhams.

Are they keeping the Wyndham's new layout to try to preserve the more intimate feel or are they really going full proscenium set up like was suggested earlier?

I hope they cast “against type” for it again after Ali Stroker and Marisha.

Marisha Wallace (Dreamgirls, Waitress, Hairspray) played Ado Annie in the Young Vic run. She isn’t disabled but is a plus-sized person of colour so it kept to going against the stereotypical casting of Ado Annie from the past. Marisha said many times how this was a role she always wanted to play but never thought she’d be able to, and she got raves from almost everyone for her portrayal. .

Perhaps they will bring Ali over if Marisha is at The Bridge. If it's going into a conventional proscenium format they will need to create some excitement or I can't see it being much of a draw.

It sounds like they are doing this so it can tour easily. It feels like the wrong call. The traditional R&H audience may not like this new interpretation and a younger non-traditional audience won't understand why they should go to a proscenium production of Oklahoma! even if it is in modern dress with new arrangements.

Genuinely think people are thinking too deeply about this - it sold out at the YV before we even knew what the layout was (as per the normal YV selling an unreserved plan to start with).
It's Rodgers and Hammerstein - older people will go regardless. So many older people didn't realise it was a revisionist take until they got there... and young people aren't not going to see this because it's in a normal layout - I've literally never heard that as a reason to not go before

The last attempt at a national tour of Oklahoma crashed quite early on from what I recall.
The Young Vic sales of this were very much influenced by the reports of the US production and so people weren't going in completely blind.
And when that same production transferred to a proscenium setting, it didn't do so well.
So this is far from a done deal.

I saw that, with Charlotte Wakefield.
I didn't like her costume, I preferred the pretty gingham dresses from the film. I think there was also a lot of wood as the backdrop somehow?

It is but assuming that it will be a success there is far from a done deal.
Rodgers and Hammerstein shows are not the easy sell there once were. Particularly when older audiences are seemingly more reluctant to return to theatregoing.

I think Oklahoma will go to Wyndhams but could Fairview be the transfer announcement today? I read an interview with Kwame the other day and he said there would be further West End transfers coming in addition to Best of Enemies. They tweeted yesterday about Fairview which I was surprised didn't transfer at the time.
