May to July is very early for a musical there and Its not often they have 2 musicals in 1 year. Maybe the musicals bring in more money to make up for last year.

They've definitely gone for a more commercial hit after Carousel didn't sell out...
I'm excited - love the show, Lucy is an interesting choice of director. Just hope it doesn't end up being a recycling centre for anyone who's ever been in Six!

That artwork is awful! I enjoyed the show when it was at the Savoy, but I'll be waiting to see who they cast before deciding whether to go to this.

I'm curious to see how it's reinvented for the Open Air Theatre.
It's incredible how the show became a huge success elsewhere despite not being a hit on Broadway.

Disappointed this has turned out to be true. It just doesn't feel right for the Open Air somehow. Maybe because literally all of the action takes place indoors, and added to that it's just so inherently American. Little Shop is equally American, but at least lends itself to the greenery and the outdoors. And even then, the Open Air production was a big miss for me despite the show itself being one of my all time favourites.
They got it so right with the epic outdoor scale of Superstar, and Carousel was wonderfully reimagined to fit the English surroundings. I just don't see what they can do to make this one work or fit. Elle's not going to be heading off to Oxford is she?!

If it were a cynical bums on seats decision I’d understand given the circumstances but the OAT seems to appeal to such a specific demographic which absolutely NOT the LB demographic. Or maybe I am stereotyping the OAT demographic?

Really excited for this! Lucy Moss is the perfect person to direct this, I can’t think of anyone better to bring this show into 2022 than her. I think a lot of productions since the original have struggled to make it feel current, but I have no fear here.
Interested to see who they cast as Elle, i’d love to see Millie O’Connell!

I expect the artwork will be updated closer to performance. The venue usually does those snazzy portraits. Like the flare dude for Evita.

One issue with OAT is that show don't start until 19:45 and when it finishes you have a 15 minute walk to the Underground, then more time to get to where you want to go to, which maybe one of London terminus stations, so for some people it can be a really late night, this in turn in itself can be a turn off.

I have a very similar demographic at my place of work and we are always trying to attract a younger demographic simply because they’re more likely to return visit and spend more money at the bar. Getting Lucy on board definitely shows which group they’re looking to cash in from and I’m sure the ‘Queendom’ will attend in their droves. Certainly risky but they’ve cut that risk by having the shorter run. |

Smart choice especially as Carousel didn’t seem to make much of an impact as much as the team wanted (IMO) and secondly 101 Dalmatians; although it’s well known - it is still a new musical so a hard sell.
I love the orchestrations so will be there - I’ve seen this show three times - the Savoy, Arts Ed and Mountview grad shows and that is what appeals.
Lucy Moss, fair play - it’s about time we have a female director there and I think she will do a stellar job.
I hope they update it a bit and I’d love a woman of colour to play Elle Woods.
I will be there on the grass bank!

As long as it isn’t full of late 20’s ‘Six’ alumni playing 19/20 year olds I won’t mind. The recent Les Mis & Heathers tour have shown that there is plenty of age appropriate talent out there so lets use it.

You mean like late-20s Christina Bennington and 30s Jodie Steele in the Heathers leads? I like this show and may be interested in seeing it live, but for me it also depends on the casting. |
