48 years ago? God that makes me feel so old. I remember vividly watching it on TV. I was 2 days old when ABBA won Eurovision. Any mention of how long it’s been immediately makes me feel old. 1974- I was 4. I have always loved ABBA, even as a little boy.

Just had an email about the 'ABBA Fan project' which is the most shameless shilling for free content I think I've ever seen. Bleurgh.

I just don't get this whole thing, I really don't. I'm sure it'll fill a night out niche but I can predict the audience this will have to a tee.
I'm sure it'll do well, but I think that's a pretty sad indictment really.
Videos on a screen at theatre prices.
The "experience" will have to be pretty damn special in my opinion.

I’m there for the experience! (Though paid bottom price). It better be a great experience. Not looking forward to the reports this might get on the bad behaviour thread but I’m going to a matinee which should help!

I am also going for the experience. Fan of ABBA but not die hard fan. I think it will be something very special and will definately be something I have never seen before. I think its going to be quite exciting and very much looking forward to it.

Exactly. The amount that has been spent and the time taken to put this together together with Bjorn and Benny being perfectionists should make this a night to remember.

As a life-long ABBA fan who missed them the first time round because I was just too young to see them when the flew (then 56 hours) to Sydney and who was at the ABBA Museum in Stokholm, Sweden about two weeks before the first lock down, this is SOOOO EXCITING!!!!- all the neighbours dogs start howling!!!!

A lifelong fan, and old enough to remember the songs first time around. This promises to be something special. I have absolute faith in the fact that the four of them would not do anything which tarnishes their legacy!

They've spent a lot of time and money on this, (ditching one concept and a co-producer along the way) to find the technology and artistic collaborators that could match their standards. The fact that the actual costumes were all made before being digitised so that they moved correctly shows the attention to detail involved. Most big pop concerts these days are fairly artificial affairs with frequent lip-synching, autotune, big screens showing close ups for the crowd who aren't at the very front. This could well end up looking less fake than a lot of actual live acts! 🤪

Exactly. Comparing it to anything before we’ve seen it could be a complete misnomer.

Benny Andersson on watching himself onstage. "It's believable. Not unbelievable, but actually believable."

A friend of a friend is working on the production. I was told yesterday that the technology is incredible. And that we'll all be flabbergasted!

Just accidentally booked tickets for the first performance, despite already having tickets for 2 days later. Boyfriend is gonna kill me in the morning!

Based on Twitter, there seem to be some invited previews this weekend (I was going to say dress rehearsals but I don't suppose the Abbatars need to worry about getting dressed).

I think the Swedes, like the Germans, demand efficiency.
Given their global success and international platform which has been helped by the two ABBA Gold releases and the two Mamma Mia! films and given that is such a HUGE comeback, they are going to deploy every piece of technology that money buy.
As excited as I am (the neighbours dogs are howling, trust me) as things move on, I wonder how this technology will hold up over time.

Well all technology eventually gets replaced, but given the time and money devoted to this I doubt it will become obsolete in a few months time.

Touring is extremely exhausting. That is why ABBA stopped. Now that they are in their 70s no one should expect them to do a live show, so do not try pressuring them. We will soon find out about the show and whether it is a success or not. One thing you can count on is that ABBA have done all possible to bring us the best entertainment they can imagine. We should all thank them for that - and the music and for bringing it to us.

Am I really the only one who thinks this sounds absolutely dreadful? And I love Abba. I want to see real people perform on stage, not holograms that will do an identikit show every single time. Most very popular artists perform live shows before HUGE audiences. Unless you are in the front few rows all you see is a tiny figure on stage and a huge figure on large TV screens. So are you paying to see the artist as a tiny dot or the on screen performance? You probably have no idea if it is your artist up there or even if he/she is miming.ABBA are being honest. When YOU go to alive performance you go to watch a screen. If the screens were not there you simply would not go. You have no idea if the artist is actually there. The first several rows could be friends of the artist. It is not rocket science to edit a single performance and make it appear like a different one. ABBA could arrange a different sequence or selection at each performance to make each seem unique. I predict the future of live performances will be video footage with the artist making an appearance afterwards to shake a few hands.

My concern would be the setlist. It’ll be full of the ‘hits’ and I’m not really up for that. Singers in their seventies can’t really guarantee a consistent product night after night and are too knackered and old to want to bother. I think that both Mamma Mia and this are more about giving people a version of what they’re crying out for without having to tour. Have ABBA actually said that it will be the same set list in the same order at each performance?
