I simply adored this movie, I am a big fan of the original and the stage version, this did not disappoint.
All the sets, costumes and just the look of the film was tremendous.
I thought Emma Watson brought some lovely touches to 'Belle' and made it her portrayal. Luke Evans was wonderful as 'Gaston' (I love his singing voice) and that goes with Dan Stevens too!
I loved how it harked back to the original but had New moments, slight changes and then the new songs.
I can't wait to go again, the cinema audience clapped at the end!!

Have seen it yesterday, although i saw it in german, i have the english CD already in repeat, so i know the "singing" of the OV-cast - if you think Emma is not good at singing, you should listen to the german synchronisation - that voice is even worse, wonder why they did not choose someone like Emmi Christensson, who does the swedish singing, would have been amazing to have a really strong singer in it - really love the song "Evermore", totally listen to it every day, the version of Josh Groban is awesome, but Dan Stevens also has a great version of it - my highlight yesterday was (apart from the 1 second i saw Harriet Jones, who if they would let her sing would be the best voice in the film) the song "Gaston", it was so entertaining - wish they had put a longer throwback to the princes past in it - overall i totally loved it, and i have to say i even liked it better than the comic version - on a last point, totally have to get the swedish/english DVD O:)

Honestly, Tim Rice cannot really hold a candle to Howard Ashman

I don't like Imax 3D. The 3D bugs me: unlike Real-D they use linear polarisation which makes the backs of the seats in front of me look bright to one eye and dark to the other. And the Imax makes me seasick, which is weird because I never feel seasick on an actual sea: the film itself is no problem but the attention-grabbing motion-heavy advertisements on that vision-filling screen make me queasy. Unfortunately all the regular 3D screenings near me are in the afternoon, and I prefer morning screenings because they're quieter and generally have fewer idiots.

I've never seen an imax 3D film where the 3D effect is as good as it is in the advert for imax 3D that they show you before the film itself.

Just seen the movie, and although I enjoyed it a lot, it made me want to rewatch the cartoon. You just can't beat Angela Lansbury singing Beauty and the Beast. Ah...I fear that rewatching the animated version before seeing the new version may have been a bad idea then... oh well, will probably see it sometime next week anyway.

Laser IMAX makes 3D IMAX films much better although nothing can beat 70mm IMAX.

I went again this morning, even better 2nd time round.
I got more emotional today, you really do care for Cotsworth, Mrs Potts & co...beautiful moment in the finale.
I think 'Days in the Sun' & 'Evermore' are just beautiful, I was sad 'IfIcamt love her' didn't make the film but that now lives with the stage show and with have something different in the film.
There is a clever nod to the stage show with 'Home' inside the score!

Just back from running the gauntlet with a cinema full of children at Sheffield. Have to say I was mostly very impressed, really enjoyed it overall. Would have preferred a better singer than Emma Watson but she played the part well. The only part that really jarred with me was the beasts solo - I too would have preferred "if I can't love her" or at least the song being at that point in the film. But, the additional sequences fitted well and the climatic scenes packed more of an emotional punch than I was expecting. It won't top the animated version, but overall, enough good about it to make it worthwhile.

Saw it yesterday and on the whole thought it was pretty good. Good first third, good last third although the gay orgy we were promised at the end was a bit of a damp squid
Emma Thompson was awful and normally I love her. Voice work isn't her forte
Acting isn't Emma Watsons forte but I guess she's just there to look pretty. Can't wait til she losses her looks and she stops getting work coz she is just awful! Actually, she can play happy but anything else and she just looks slightly disgusted. And HOW crappy is the thing on her voice!? My, how I repeatedly laughed
The guy playing Gaston was better than iv ever seen him but I guess he was very much at home
On the whole I'd say it was alright. Not the car crash I was fearing/hoping for. Shame they had to pick EW. Kept thinking how wonderful Emma Stone would have been in it. With her it could have closely reached CLASSIC status.

I loved it. Realised I had a huge grin on my face at the end, but at the same time tearing up because it was so lovely.
I still maintain that EW was the wrong choice but she won me over by the end so I'm not going to go on about it.
Pure escapism. Just forget the animated version and see it with an open mind.

I don't think it's escapism at all. I was stressed for the whole movie because of how poor most of it was. So, yeah….

I couldn't relax either. Watching Emma Watson makes me so uncomfortable. She is an absolutely appalling 'actress'. She ruins this otherwise wonderful film.
She can't sing.
She can't show any emotion
She reacts to nothing.
I'm rather staggered she wasn't fired on the first day of filming. Her poor co-stars, must be easier to act with a tennis ball on a stick than her.
Her aside it's a feast of a film- particularly loved Audra and Ewan McG was good, Be Our Guest was dazzling and Luke Evans was good. Sadly I found the whole gay Josh Gad thing tedious and a right kerfuffle over nothing. More shocking was how unfunny he was.

To me, Lumiere and Cogsworth are generally always such highlight characters in the show or in the original movie, but I literally can't remember either of these characters in this new movie. That's really awkward.
But yes, one cannot go overboard enough about how abysmal Emma Watson was on that screen. She took bad to a whole other level. She had the same expression for the entire movie, and she was acting like as if she thought she was Meryl Streep. When do we expect her to retire?

^ I haven't seen this yet but a huge 'No' from me to the suggestion of Emma Stone as Belle. I don't think I could bear to sit through it with her. Though maybe I'll eat my words when I see Emma Watson.
Emma has a sweet voice; obviously it's quite delicate but the level of auto tune is unnecessary.
It would maybe have been better to cast an unknown like they did with Cinderella?
Still, it all seems to be working out box office wise- monstrous so far!

Yeah as soon as I would start to relax and enjoy it something hideously awkward would happen, usually of Emma Watson's doing.
(Phillipa Soo should have been Belle).

I saw it tonight and really enjoyed it, unlike Cinderella and The Jungle Book, it doesn't really expand the original but it's a visual treat with a gorgeous score.
Emma Watson was okay as Belle but the real star of the film is Luke Evans as Gaston, he really shines in the role and he and Josh Gad work well together. I did like some of the changes although there is one scene which could have cut and it would have not hurt the film one jot.
Overall, I think it's the second best of the live action Disney films and while it's not as good as the original film, it doesn't disgrace itself.
I know Disney has Mulan and Aladdin in the pipeline but I would love to see The Hunchback of Notre Dame get the live action treatment.

YES to Hunchback. Hands down the best Disney soundtrack. Hunchback to me if they adapted to live action needs to use the stage version's book or a script that is much closer to the original novel. It would need to be a budget similar to Les Mis of $60-75m so they could make it darker.

I've read that they plan to do 'Mulan' like 'Cinderella' & 'The Jungle Book' with no songs...I think that's a big shame as generally 'I'll Make a Man Out of You' is one of Disney's best musical numbers ever but production hasn't started and with 'Beauty and the Beast' breaking box office records that may change!
