Hi all, I have been reading this forum for years but never contributed and hope this is allowed because I’ve seen posts on here from those who weren’t able to see this original cast due to COVID… I have 2 tickets for this Friday 25th eve available. I have seen the show already and loved it but sadly can’t risk this week as I have a fit to fly PCR test coming up. Seats are are Stalls, row E and I got these at the initial cheaper price of £90 each. Willing to let them go cheaper so as not to waste! Tried my best negotiating skills (I’m a solicitor) with ATG about returns but they will not accept returns despite a note on the email confirmation saying they will if sold out! Thanks Ticket sales like this would normally go into the Noticeboard and anyone wishing to sell would be required to have contributed at least 25 posts. There’s a bit of flexibility around that if we think the notice is of particular benefit to members which, given the scarcity of decent priced tickets for this show, could be said to apply here. However the reason for the 25 minimum post count is to give potential buyers some reassurance that the seller is “known” here, as far as a person on a forum can be known of course. The posting history allows people to at least get a measure if a person in some way. So anyone deciding to take up this offer should proceed with caution and at your own risk. TheatreBoard takes no responsibility for financial transactions conducted between members. No offence intended rhiannon, you’ll understand that we don’t have a clue who you are!

Thanks BurlyBeaR and no offence taken… totally understandable! I also realise how ridiculous it is to say “the cheaper price of £90 each” - theatre prices have got so expensive. I will stick around and try to contribute more to this board!

I can vouch that stalls row E are exceptional seats, if that helps!

The theatre looks amazing and the vibe is great as soon as you walk in. Much better than the usual Playhouse seating.
Cabaret is a completely new show on me. Liza Minnelli and Nazis was all I knew relating to the story, song wise, I knew more than I realised. For a first timer, the staging is great. The story is good, but not always clear, to the point where I was maybe looking for subtext where there isn’t any - I.e is the Emcee death, is he Hitler? Or is he just the Emcee? I won’t put my thoughts as I know we’re trying to Keep the Secrets™️
Cats wise, it’s brilliant. Eddie Redmane has such a unique silhouette and gangliness that it’s hard to see how he will be replaced in this particular version of the Emcee. I couldn’t always tell what he was saying but his performance was so committed that I didn’t care so much. We had Emily Bishop (Benjamin 😉) on as Sally. Interesting that a few pages back people suggested Billie Piper for this as Emily not only looks like Billie but sounds like her too. I had to remind myself that I wasn’t watching Billie. Both my husband and I commented this at the interval. I know nothing of Jessie’s performance but Emily really has no business being standby if last nights performance was anything to go by, she is outstanding. Maybe this time was great but I was distracted by the Sally Bowles sat next to me singing along for the majority of the song however I have never seen a performer give so much to a performance and hers of the title song was jaw was so raw and emotional, unlikely, but they could do far worse than to promote her to being Sally full time - another example of why star-billing really shouldn’t matter.

Saw this last night. Left me cold somewhat. I didn't like Eddie Redmayne at all, I think he's woefully miscast. And his singing voice is atrocious. I saw Emily Benjamin (?) as Sally and she was quite good. The rest of the cast were kind of second rate, no stand outs for me. I'm sure this will sweep at the Oliviers though, it's the type of show they'll fawn over. I thought the staging was messy, and I hated the stylised movements in Willkommen and Cabaret. The ensemble stood out for me, I have to say. They were all great, and understood the style and period. Hated the pre-show stuff, found it unnecessary. This production doesn't strike me as especially innovative or impressive, since it copies a lot of what Sam Mendes did with his revival. Still waiting for someone to break the mould and shock me with a new take on this show.

"The rest of the cast were second rate" So the ensemble, which you later praised, are not part of the cast? You also said the ensemble understood the style and period. Yes they did, and that came from the Director. They didnt do their own thing and just join in. Having seen the Sam Mendes version, very little reminded me of that production, let alone alot. I loved the pre-show and dont see how anyone could find it 'unnecessary' its a few people walking round or dancing whilst you take your seat.

I mean while Liza Sadovy is in the cast, giving this verve to Fraulein Schneider that I have not seen before (too much down-trodden-ness from earlier iterations), the cast can hardly be called second-rate.
There's a certain kind of voice that is championed in musical theatre, particularly on Broadway, signified by the (very talented) Aaron Tveit and Sutton Foster, but there's a wealth of other vocal art that exists, and Redmayne's tenor was quite beautiful for me. Understand easily how it might not be for you, and it's your opinion of course, but to call it atrocious is quite flawed.

Deuces, I’m curious what exactly you thought was copied from the Mendes production, a revival I’ve seen 40+ times. I didn’t find anything really to be copied from it which is one of the reasons I found this new revival so refreshing.

The cast of ‘Spring Awakening’ were quite diverse for that. Not just the usual sound. I liked the timbre of Redmaynes voice in his songs in the Les Mis movie but that’s a different kettle to his Emcee songs.

Box office said new cast will be announced next week. It's taken a while for Su Pollard to clear her calendar Still not seen this and have a Sat matinee, based on her absences we're already 50% resigned to not seeing Jessie which is, err, 50% quite disappointing.

The only thing they had in common is the script/song list, otherwise everything is different. It’s one of the surprising and amazing things about this production - someone finally found a way to break free from the Sam Mendes mould.

Well I went the other day and I thought it was amazing, the show and the experience as a whole with the performances as you came in, I loved everything.
We had a call to our table and it was so much fun, I was asked to twirl to show my dress. And in Don't Tell Mama I spotted Eddie up on the balcony and pointed him out and he was blowing kisses down.
We had the understudy Sally but you couldn't tell the way she commanded the stage whenever she was on. Both her and Eddie were just blow out performances and Fräulein Schneider was one of the other best things in the show, my god, that note she holds! The only annoying thing was she doesn't get an applause for such a standout number as they carry on with the dialogue afterwards.
A few people were full out weeping by the end of it.
The only slight criticism I have is the food on the tables is awful, really, really bad. All I ate was five cubes of extremely cold chicken and the tiny desert ball. I was relieved when that brownie came in the interval! I've seen better food on the salad bar in Morrisons, I really hated it! And the only time I was a little annoyed about the staging was In cabaret as Sally finished the song and all we had on our side was a view of her back. That's the only time I felt it failed on our side.
But hands down the best show I've seen.

The day I went the dancing bit was really short, just a couple of minutes or even less. The performers really struggled to persuade patrons to join them on stage, and the whole thing ended up just being three people doing a silly conga. I went to a matinee though, maybe evening patrons are more eager to participate. We only had three as well, but they only asked three (there was way more willing I think, I know I would've gone up!)

I thought the ensemble were on top form, very slick, not a stray movement between them and no way they could be called second rate. I particularly thought the person who played Helga was a standout performer, but they were all pretty excellent. And Fräulein Schneider for me was one of the most stand out secondary character performances I have ever seen on stage, she brought so much emotion and humanity to the role.

Saw it on Wednesday night and loved every minute.
Even the queue to get in was well managed and fun.
For those who were there I was in the third row channelling my inner Liza - I would put on a photo if I knew how !
