But didn't people expect this? I thought because of their food offering, they couldn't really enforce masks, and the test was bound to be the case... We haven’t all booked a table. Plus every other offers snacks and drinks where masks go down (and Masks are an infrequent sight at some shows anyway). Home tests are too complicated for me. So I am going to have to pay if I do go.

The NHS free test will be acceptable as its a lateral flow test. Will this be available to visiting foreigners/tourists too? It's no different to Broadway theatres requiring everyone to prove a negative test. Part of travelling and going to many things nowadays, I really don't see the fuss. And masks are sadly not being enforced in other theatres anyway so I don't see how this will be any different. I applaud ATG for forcing people to test. It is a good thing and if people don't want go because of a safety measures like that then all the better.

It’s adding something that was not a requirement At time of purchase. Testing yourself without symptoms is seen by most people I know as something stupid and weird.

Would my insurance cover me for cancelling due to one of the party refusing to be tested? I don’t think I am going to be able to make them go p. They tell me to go to court if I can’t get a refund. I can’t imagine being successfully there.

Lateral flows involve literally putting a cotton bud up your nose for a few seconds - such a low level of discomfort for the safety of everyone around you. Surprised people are so offended by this tiny gesture of goodwill towards theatre staff, performers and your fellow audience members. How silly.

Easiest way to find out who doesn't bother to do their own research - being vaccinated has never and will never stop you catching or spreading it, so you are basically saying you don't care about vulnerable people who cannot get the vaccination. It's a matter of basic social conscience, nothing more. The amount of fuss people are making over a simple test is ridiculous. Broadway theatres are doing this and being applauded for it, which shows how unselfish New Yorkers seem to be compared to many here.

It’s the inconsistency though. In ATG venues across the land people are sat with faces literally inches from strangers faces with no requirement for tests or masks.

I'll be glad not to sit next to people who think like that. It's a few seconds of discomfort, if they can't deal with that then it is frankly their problem Many people test every day for their jobs.

And then dealing with a complicated system of waiting for the result and imputing the details. Not easy for people who don’t deal with IT very well. Otherwise it’s an additional expense not pre warned. Broadway is different - people were told before they brought the tickets and could freely choose

As far as I'm aware, ATG require proof of vaccination or test, and there is sadly no point in making masks part of the conversation without a government mandate as legally they can't be enforced.

Broadway is different - people were told before they brought the tickets and could freely choose Oh give over - you look at a piece of plastic 30 minutes after you do the test, then either scan a QR code, type in a serial number or just take a photo (which many theatres have been accepting). I can't imagine anyone going to see Cabaret will not have done a lateral flow test before. I do despair if you really think it is complicated - buying the theatre ticket is more difficult! And the free lateral flows are still available so no excuse not to stock up now. No cost necessary. And you can still freely choose not to go if it really offends you that much.

Proof of vaccination is a lot easier as it’s just getting out paperwork. If you test regularly this might be easy but if your have never done a lateral flow test before it’s not that easy to do first time knowing there is a lot of money to be lost if you do it wrong. Loads of people this summer rejected the do in hotel room tests TUi were offering for in person testing because of the fear of getting wrong and getting stuck.

There is no excuse for not checking details, or having a little bit of common sense or care for others. It isn't complicated, it isn't difficult, and if you don't do it then more fool you. ATG won't care, nor should they.

Everyone I know has - we have all had to for work, theatre visits, travel, visiting care homes, displaying symptoms etc. There are so many reasons why people test that anyone who hasn't must either have been a hermit since lockdown was lifted, is lucky enough not to have relatives in hospital or care homes, or miraculously hasn't had even the symptoms of a cold in the last 18 months (or just hasn't cared enough to test, but that won't apply to everyone).

I’ve never had a test for symptoms. I honestly haven’t had a noticeable cold since 2019. I must have been lucky becuase I do normally get one or two a year but I didn’t last winter. For Travel a lot of people pay for in person testing. There is always a queue even for lateral flow testing at the private testing centre in Stratford.

The point of being vaccinated includes not dying, not getting seriously ill, not spreading the disease to others who get seriously ill or die. Not having to stick a cotton bud up your nose to go to the theatre shouldn't really be the major selling point!

Anyway shouldn’t every ticket holder be emailed about this now being it’s a change to the requirements in which people booked under. Rather than it just being in the ticket email.
And I presume they have updated all mentions on the website as it’s not exactly good practice to be selling tickets based on out of date requirements

Testing for a disease that has spread so successfully throughout the world in part because it has no symptoms in a significant proportion of infections is neither stupid or weird. Do your friends feel the same about cancer screening?

Do your friends feel the same about cancer screening? People just think it’s better to test when you have symptoms only. The uptake of Lateral flow tests has been pretty poor and confined mostly to certain demographics (who luckily for the Theatre industry are more likely to go)

And they REALLY had to stage it that way in the middle (or towards the end) of a global pandemic?! And force people to fork out for a pricey test on top of super expensive tickets? I don't think they will get away with that. The NHS free test will be acceptable as its a lateral flow test. I have done several lateral flow tests at home, but doesn't this require you to find a NHS testing site and to have the test there? I have found a site which is about 2 miles away from me in east London, but am taking an elderly friend as a guest, who lives in Essex, near Southend. The Essex council website has no information to say there are test sites anywhere in Essex - they suggest that some chemists may be able to assist you with a test, but then they are unlikely to be able to provide the required certification as it won't be a NHS test. This has disaster written all over it, for any visitor to London who doesn't have a test site close to their home.

I have to say that I've never done a test. Apart from 1 visit to Regent's Park at the end of August 2020, I did live like a hermit from mid-March 2020 to the end of August 2021. My mother was in and out of hospital April-June this year but only she had to be tested before being admitted. I've not had cold symptoms since October 2019. I'm sure at some point I'll have to do a test but I think someone would have to administer it to me. I really don't think I could manage to stick a swab right to the back of my throat, as I combine having a very sensitive gag reflex with emetophobia. I'd much rather wear a mask for the entirety of a c. 7 hour trip to London, which I do, than have to stick anything into any orifices for a few minutes. Fortunately I have no desire to see Cabaret!
