It's not to everyone's taste, but what are your thoughts on Flowers for Mrs Harris, FrontroverPaul? There's a production at Sheffield's Montgomery Theatre at the end of April. Although it's being described as the South Yorkshire amateur premiere, I doubt there will have been many productions anywhere by then. www.southeymusicaltheatrecompany.co.uk/NAPA in Hull has a comprehensive programme planned for the next few months, including Fame in just a few weeks, Singin in the Rain in April, and Be More Chill in May. I saw Flowers For Mrs Harris at Sheffield and twice at Chichester and really enjoyed it Hull definitely appeals for a Saturday matinee. I'll keep an eye on what's staged there. Tempting as it is to travel to faraway places every Saturday I try to limit my bookings to shows that aren't staged too often, are my particular favourites like Oklahoma and 42nd Street, or are new to me. Seven Brides... (at Stockport) is rarely chosen these days possibly due to non-politically-correct content deterring some musical theatre groups. I also take travel costs into account - I can get to Stockport, Sheffield or Wakefield for less than it costs me to reach Bournemouth, Shrewsbury or Kings Lynn which are closer to Kent. |

Already booked, I am indeed on their mailing list and Oklahoma! was so well done this was an immediate must-see. I'm still considering Cats at Barnsley with an overnight stay. It's so rarely chosen by amateur groups. A lovely moment when it was staged at Bromley in 2018. I was at the weekday matinee when a little lad sitting nearby shouted out vey loudly as one of the cast came on stage " That's my mummy. Hello mummy!" Brought the house down. |

Spend, Spend, Spend is at Bridlington's Spotlight Theatre from 26 April to 1 May. There's no need to spend, spend, spend as tickets are only £10! 😁
And there's a production of David Essex's All the Fun of the Fair at Nottingham's Arts Theatre from 25 to 28 May.

Exciting on Hunchback. Shame they're not doing any matinées making travel really difficult. But hopefully they'll get a lot of attendance anyway.

I saw Hunchback for the first time yesterday at the Mercury Theatre Colchester and if there were a matinee at Lincoln I would definitely attend as I thought it was a brilliant musical.
The role of Quasimodo was played by two actors. Jestin Bartlett - who is profoundly deaf - acted, signed and lip-synched while Sean Hayes provided the vocals. That unique pairing made for a truly moving performance. The whole cast from Colchester Operatic Society were superb and, not knowing the story, the scene where Esmerelda - played and sung by a beautiful American lady called Cally Kline - died brought a real tear to my aged eye.
Probably my favourite amateur musical ever.

I noticed that the rights to Cabaret have become available again this year.
As far as I know they have not been available to amateurs since 2011 - which was when I was in a production. I'd spoken to so many groups/societies since then that wanted to do it but not able to!

Betty Blue Eyes is at the Cotswold Playhouse in Stroud. 9 to 11 and 15 to 18 June.
Little Shop of Horrors is at York Theatre Royal. 14 to 23 July. Along with both Saturdays, there's a cheeky little matinee on the first Friday at 4pm.
Along with those I posted upthread, NAPA in Hull has now added Anything Goes to its performance schedule. 24 to 26 June, including a 3pm matinee on the Sunday.

The Bridewell in London has a good run coming up, societies who perform there are usually very strong. 'Cats' this week, another 'Little Shop' at the end of the month and then 'American Idiot' at the start of May.

There's a group in West London doing 'The Toxic Avenger' at the Questors next week, which is a bold and interesting choice! And at the Bridewell, Geoids have nabbed Ian Mckellen to do the prologue voicover in their Little Shop of Horrors which is quite a good gimmick. Then looking forward to American Idiot the week after, by Sedos.

Sunshine On Leith at Wyllyotts Theatre Potters Bar 2-7 May, The Boyfriend at Wilde Theatre near Bracknell 3-7 May
The Rink at St Mary In The Castle Hastings 19-21 May, the only one I haven't booked yet as it's unreserved seating.
Lend Me A Tenor at Brentwood Theatre 29 June to 2 July

Here's an interesting one.
Brookside Theatre Romford have cancelled Young Frankenstein due to "issues with the performing rights" and are instead presenting Eurobeat -The Pride Of Europe at the end of May with "additional new songs and material" as Liechetenstein stage the Euro(vision)beat Song Contest.

RTSA, Rotherham's premier youth theatre company, presents Disney's The Little Mermaid. 13 to 17 September 2022 at Rotherham Civic Theatre. 7.15pm nightly, with a 2.15pm matinee on Saturday. Just booked to see Made in Dagenham in Petersfield in 2 weeks time, running 18th to 21st May. My new local theatre group so off to check them out, only saw it once in town so looking forward to catching it again.
