My friend knows someone who knows someone in the show. He told me a few things about it that I liked and a few things I didn't:
-There's a young Norma that appears every now and then
-Orchestra is on stage "in the mansion"
-It's very orchestral, I think there is a boost in the orchestral sound and ALW involved
-Glenn wears original costumes (as we all know based on the credits to Powell's costumes), but some of the costume changes have been cut out. I pray they keep the leopard print gown ("Today is the day! Max is going to deliver the script to Paramount. I've just spoken to my astrologer. She read DeMill's horoscope; she read mine. DeMille is Leo, I'm Scorpio. Mars is transmitting Jupiter and today is the day of closest conjunction."

I would hope he won't be reading it from a folder a la City Center Encores! come Friday!

I know this has probably been talked about before but any advice on tickets and seats would be appreciated as never been to this theatre before really want to see sunset but have not got a huge budget ? Did just read that although very high the balcony gives good view rather that upper circle ? Any tips on getting cheap ticket with an OK view ? ? It was asked on the old board. I'm guessing all the good cheap seats have now gone, but I've pasted the notes I have on the place below for you, drowseychap: Stalls: The circle does not overhang any seats except boxes D to L. Stalls have steps rather than slope between rows, quite shallow but seats are well staggered to see between those in front. Seats also narrower than those in the dress circle. Row Q is in an alcove at the back. No aisles at the ends of rows from D back. Legroom is fine up to 5ft 11 or so, B and C 1 and 2, B35 and 36 and C 38 and 39 have nothing in front. Stalls boxes A and B have side views and miss the stage edges, as do C and M further back. D to L are in a horseshoe at the back and have a decent view over seats in front. Dress Circle: Circle above overhangs at row B, can't see surtitles from H back, lose the very top of the stage at J and significant top at L. A very shallow rake to seats, except L, on a high step. C 2 and 51 have nothing in front. D 1 and 53 are angled at 45 degrees to the stage, with no legroom for a quarter of the seat, unlimited for the rest. D1 is slightly better angled. Side block aisle seats nearest the centre block have a little space for one leg to stretch into from row C back. Row L end seats have a step in front of them, allowing longer legs to dangle a bit. Side block seats row A 1 and 72 look past lighting. Close to the stage, though. Legroom is nil in most of row A, 1 to 3, 15 to 38, 70 and 71 in particular. A 4 to 12 and 62 to 68 are OK to around 5ft 5, even 5ft 7 if willing to use toe-room (not for the monkey, though). Side block B and C, except those with nothing in front are OK to around 5ft 6 or so. Other seats in the main blocks from B to L are comfortable to 5ft 10, K to 5ft 8, at least. Dress Circle boxes have side views but seem excellent. Upper Circle: Circle above overhangs at row B, can't see surtitles from H back. No legroom in any seat for anyone over 5ft 5 except: C1 - 60% clear in front, B 1 and 51 and C56 - 100% clear. A 1 and 43 have no legroom at all. Boxes have similar views to dress circle. Balcony: High and misses sides or front of stage, depending where you sit. Seats are set high on the old concrete steps, so legroom isn't bad for those under 5ft 6 (just avoid end seats in rows A to C), and row K is good for those up to 5ft 9 plus. End seats in row K - 1, 6, 7, 19, 20, 32, 33, 45, 46 and 51 have no arm rest on the aisle side, allowing further spread. Hi Monkey, Where the stalls seats are next to a wall are they still tight or is there any additional legroom to be had? thx

Same legroom as seats beside them, except the ones mentioned in rows B and C with nothing in front. Stalls legroom is fine unless you slept on a growbag as a kid, though. Thanks Monkey. Unfortunately I did sleep on a growbag as a kid (6'4") so no joy. It's ok I've bagged myself an aisle seat in the Dress Circle slips thanks to an upsetting turn of events & trading in two evening tickets for one matinee ticket. Note to all!!! The estimated running time of 2 hours is nonsense and should say 2hrs 55minutes. I checked with the box office today. Good job I didn't book that 5.30 train!

No, row C. One of the little groups of two. Looks great and certainly a lot closer than the back of the upper circle

Just asked them about "day seats." Not confirmed yet, but the plan is simply to sell a few tickets at full price, if available. So, no discount for waiting in line early, it looks like. Underlining that, row A of the stalls is now on sale at £105 at all performances, online. Well that's me out then. No matter how much I like Sunset, I can't afford full whack, and I am not sitting miles away for the cost of a ticket to something else. Unless this changes in the next week then my Thursday morning dayseat will be spent outside the Wyndhams for People, Places and Things

Not an outrageous price, no, but I like facial expressions in the theatre.
Interesting they have only now released the front row. I wonder if they did initially plan on holding that back for dayseats at a 'reasonable' price, but then decided they could make more money by whacking a pricetag of £100 on it.
It's a shame. I may regret not going in the long run, but I just can't justify such an expense sadly.

The way I look at this is that the opportunity to see this show, with that star, live on stage and at close proximity is unlikely to come up again. For me that's worth foregoing two or three productions and spending the £100 for row A. It's horses for courses naturally but if you're already thinking you might regret it then doesn't that mean this should get priority over something else?

Not really. If it's a question of seeing this or paying rent I think I know what comes first sadly

I meant priority over seeing something else. And you're absolutely right, of course.

I'll cry for a little bit and then pull myself together and move on. Too many other things that I want to see. If I hadn't just spent £300 for a music festival a couple of weeks back I would have more disposable income to throw at this, but I made my bed and will lie in it.
I should stop talking here or I'll talk myself into it and then spend April hiding from my landlord.

Hmmm, now, that would be a theory, wouldn't it... and not one crossing only your mind for sure... Definitely crossing a few minds. Nonetheless, they clearly can make more money this way. I had held out in the hope of dayseats but ending up booking dress circle last weekend. I just rang the box office and upgraded them to front row stalls. If I'm going to pay horrendous ticket prices, they might as well be even more horrendous for seats I actually want to sit in. (Thanks Theatremonkey for the tip!)

I was only going to measure the leg room, viewing angle/pistachio throwing trajectory and murmur self importantly in the bar.
