All our discussion of Sunset has me in SB withdrawl...
Never imagined I'd watch the entire hour and nineteen minutes on Youtube, but once I started, I was sucked in. Hard to imagine anything beating the original production for me - and Ms. Buckley is often under-appreciated for what an amazing Norma she was:

I'm going through serious withdrawal myself and have subjected myself to many cast recordings and bootlegs since. And yes, when it comes to Normas to me Buckley has always reigned supreme. Her THIS TIME (I'm staying) is everything.

Imagine if Laurie Beechman had had her chance to play this role!

Too many to list and too taboo to discuss on a live forum!

I love most of the book for this show, but the line about the 'Happy, Birthday, welcome to your shopathon' seems too vulgar and too modern, and so not Norma....I may be wrong, and 'shopathon' may have been in use then, but it always jumps out as inconsistent.

Can someone revive this already?

I've just treated myself to the Broadway soundtrack.
It is glorious and will be on repeat for the forceeable future. Sorry neighbours.

I've just treated myself to the Broadway soundtrack. Can I be the arsehole who points out it's a Cast Recording, not a Soundtrack? Oh, and it's not from Broadway, it's Los Angeles.

The only line that doesn't sit comfortable with me is the 'shut up I'm rich not some platinum blond bitch', it just doesn't feel natural or necessary. Maybe it's because I was initially used to the world premiere recording

Mainly there to rhyme with 'forgotten which is which' I think. That following line was Don Black's in joke about ALW getting confused and not knowing where the light switch was in his various homes. So it may feel forced because its motivation was outside of the characters.
And why would being platinum blonde correlate to NOT being rich? - touching up your roots costs surely...

I don't really think shopathon is a contemporary word either though

ah, yes, of course, it's Manfred who sings the Shopathon line. My mistake.

La Jones was interviewed on The One Show a couple of nights ago, in a feature on understudies (and should audiences members be entitled to claim their money back - obviously the thrust of the story was Sheridan Smith)

^ Agree, she was fab as Ellen (best one I've seen) and a divine Betty, and I never liked the character. Yes, she'd be great as Fantine but I think more suitable for Glinda than Elphaba. Her voice is more suitable as a contemporary soprano/mezzo-soprano that occasionally belts. Her Ellen and Betty were wonderful and I think her voice is more suited to give classical-type scores a light pop sound, but I don't think a full-on pop score like Wicked would be great for her. I saw her in Ghost and I actually did not like her in that at all and thought she was slightly miscast and couldn't pull off the singing as well as Caissie Levy.
That's interesting. I hope she will go into a show that I actually want to see, just for selfish reasons!!
I wish I'd seen her in Cabaret all those years ago, but I'd seen it a lot at that point, and she wasn't really on my radar.
I bet she was wonderful! She could still play it!!

Ria Jones has replied to a tweet asking if the tour has been cancelled with "Hello.. I'm afraid it has". Glenn Close sits in an empty town hall, with a dead chimp in her arms, laughing manically like Cruella de Vil.

I saw a cabaret with them both at the St James Theatre last year (I think) and it was a really enjoyable night. Both are such terrific performers.

In my continued Sunset Blvd. "withdrawls" (all this talk of it really has me hooked again) I found this. Glenns understudy on Broadway Karen Mason singing With One Look... The lady blew the roof off the Minskoff Theatre. Just hearing the score with a Norma who really could sing was a revelation:
