Am I right in thinking they haven’t released any details yet for which are accessible performances? Or did I miss it somewhere?

Is there any chance this might get recorded? The play is so beloved and Rylance’s performance is so iconic, but it’s incredibly doubtful he could do the role again. With that in mind, might they want to preserve him and it? It was filmed at the Royal Court for the V&A theatre archive. Not for broadcast, but it does exist and can be seen by appointment I think. www.vam.ac.uk/info/theatre-performance-archives#national-video-archive-of-performance-nvap

Had a quick look at availability; if they don't already, seats booked last week are going to look amazing value next Spring.

This must be a record! Show cancelled nearly a year in advance!
Seems my tickets for a Monday night have been moved to a Sunday afternoon.

I haven't had any notifications for my June 9 tickets, so hopefully it's a one-off cancellation. Or they're notifying May ticket holders first and I'll be next.

Looks like they've changed from Monday-Saturday to Tuesday-Sunday from May onwards although I notice the show isn't on for two days in late July which I guess is due to Rylance having other commitments on those days.

It's May Day Bank Holiday. I can't recall if he's a Socialist but he's def very pro-worker rights. There will be the usual march n London and elsewhere, organised by the trade unions.

If it is due to that I'm very surprised they got as far as putting tickets on sale before it was clocked and altered.

They've allovated new (different..) seats on our requested night - I can see them if I log into my Nimax account, they just haven't bothered to tell us yet.

Just had an email that the performance of this I booked is cancelled and I've been moved to a performance I can't make... Maybe don't sell tickets before you've confirmed the show schedule?!! Can't even use covid as an excuse for the shifting about anymore.

I have an understanding that Mark Rylance previously performed the role without an understudy - will this be true of this coming run? Am looking to book tickets but still trying to decide on a date.

The run seems practically sold out now. Will more tickets likely be released as Nimax is saying "check back closer to the time"? Thanks.

I was eager to see this when they announced the new run but the prices (and lack of decent seats when they first went on sale) put me right off it: I’ve seen Mark Rylance in Othello at the Globe and ‘that fishing play’ at the Harold Pinter so I’m sure I can hide my disappointment in public next year.

It does seem like an inordinately long time to move a few videos to be honest.

They aren't moving a few videos. They're moving the entire theatre and performance archives, which equates to possibly millions of items, many of them rare or irreplaceable so in need of high quality packing and monitoring. It would have been done sooner but, alas, covid.

If you can live four years without such a resource some might think it isn't essential at all.

Archives are essential for the same reasons any branch of culture is essential. It is a long wait, but it's a huge project, which looks great in the promotional material: www.vam.ac.uk/info/va-east.

Moving them to Stratford (outer London, is that?) makes them even less accessible to non-Londoners, unless the archive comes with hotel rooms attached.

Stratford is in Zone 2 (well... 2/3), and is one of the most well connected parts of the city. It's on the Central and Jubilee lines, the DLR, is on TFL rail (and hence will shortly be on the Elizabeth Line) as well as National Rail services from Greater Anglia and c2c. The Olympics were held there. I don't think it's an especially unreasonable place to put a museum archive, and it's all Brownfield development helping to regenerate a traditionally very impoverished part of the capital. Oh and the wonderful Theatre Royal Stratford East seems to do OK!

It is quite a way out into here-be-dragons territory if you aren't familiar with outer London and makes a big difference if you're coming as a day tripper.

The V&A aren't moving their archives because they want to. The government is kicking them out of their current building.
