Day-seated this yesterday (fifth in the queue about 7:50, and I think everyone in line by the time BO opened got tickets) and nothing more to add than this is completely outstanding theatre and the most exhilarating performance you will ever see on stage.
From the front row I can also say that the stage floor is definitely real grass with actual insects crawling through it! And that Davey actually does record the Morris dancing on his iPhone, with a picture of a topless woman as his background!

So glad you liked it. I've seen it twice (once on front row, with a day seat like you) and planning to go again before it ends. I absolutely love it and I don't think I'll see something as amazing any time soon, if ever again.

Loved it from my seat in the Stalls Box, you are basically on the same level as the stage, very close, side view but you only really miss three first metre or so of one side. The best part is you can move the seat around so there is plenty of legroom and you can choose your viewing angle or lean on the padded ledge in front.
BUT is it just me or did this used to have live chickens wandering around? Did I miss them?

did this used to have live chickens wandering around? Did I miss them? When I saw it in June the live chickens were under the trailer. You could hear them. They brought one out for the curtain call. |

I saw the matinee yesterday and there were live chickens under the trailer to the right of the door.

Did they run free in the last production? The chickens were present a few weeks ago, except I noticed they were not present when Act 3 began. Obviously Rylance releases them towards the end of the play to preserve them so I wondered if they are disappeared deliberately so they're not present after they've supposedly been released.

Finally got to see this at the weekend (having booked it last August - I think the furthest in advance I've ever booked anything). As with most of everyone else I also thought this was excellent. What I hadn't anticipated though was quite how much it already seems to be becoming a period piece. It will be interesting to see the response if they do revive it in another decade.
The chickens were also present and correct for the first two acts before disappearing during act 3 (when a carefully selected prop obscured the place they'd been under the trailer to hide the fact they weren't there).

Just to the right of the steps under the trailer. If you're low down you might not see them easily. They tend to just sit around a lot.

I saw them too, had to stretch get up for a second, but they were there, under the trailer.
Went with a friend who had not seen the play before and she loved it. She later said: Mark Rylance is not of this world.
Guy sat next to us - who is an actor himself- at the end of the show said he'll be doing various impersonations of Rooster Byron in all his upcoming performances & that he felt like he's been to see the Pope as a devout catholic LOL.

I saw this a few weeks ago and you can put me firmly in the ‘meh’ camp.
It was a perfectly entertaining few hours in the theatre and Rylance’s performance is, of course, great. But unlike others I struggled to see much of relevance to contemporary life and am unconvinced it’s the greatest play of the last X number of years (mind you, I don’t know what I’d nominate instead).
Some gripes:
When you have an actor as strong as Rylance, you need the other roles to have equally strong actors. That wasn’t always the case. (Though I have to say the understudies we saw the day I went were both great, as was Mackenzie Crook).
One of the actresses supposedly playing a teenage girl seemed far too old and knowing. It stopped me believing in the story.
I struggled to hear one of the supporting actors a lot of the time, and I was only mid-stalls.
For all that Rooster is the main character, and a huge character, he seemed not to drive much of the action. Things happened to him, not because of him. Which seems an odd writing decision.
Cast appear to be a tight-knit group, though - the young actor playing Rooster’s son seemed a little down at curtain call and the actress playing his mum was clearly doing her best to cheer him up.
And no solo bow for Rylance. Instead he went straight across that stage directing a huge smile and outstretched arm at Crook. Given some of the discussions in other threads, perhaps there’s a valuable lesson in teamwork and humility some young actors could learn from a master!

Glad it’s not just me, because I must admit I failed to see what all the fuss was about myself. And I felt like I’d already seen the ending when I saw the Ferryman.

It's good that we all have different taste otherwise it would be a very boring world indeed lol. I've seen the Ferryman and would go a second time if it was produced again, but I don't think it is as great as Jerusalem. I've seen the latter 3 times now and will probably go again before it closes!

Thanks 😊 40 ticket released per day, front row stalls and when they're going front row of the balcony. £15 each, 2 per person. As for timings, Theatre Monkey is your friend. There’s definitely not 40 day seats available every day. Last time I queued up (a few weeks ago) they handed out tokens to the people in the queue to indicate how many seats were available and told us there was a very limited number that day. It was a 2 show day and there were probably less than 15 tokens in total given out across the 2 performances.

Thanks 😊 Just in case you're unaware, you can also get £15 tickets for the week ahead online every Monday at 10am. When I got mine it looked like front and back of the balcony were released, not sure if all of them were £15 but the front of the balcony definitely was because that's what I ended up getting (would not recommend the front row of the balcony if you can avoid it though, you have to lean a lot and my back was killing me by the end!). |

I queued on Wednesday. Arrived at 8.40am. 9 people there. After me only two more people arrived until 9.45am. The day seats were limited to the 14 front row seats for each of the matinee and evening performances. 2 per person. Most wanted the evening. Basically for the evening you needed to be there at 8.30am. For the matinee you could have rolled up at 9.45am and got seats. So tricky to assess time on any day. Will probably get busier as gets closer to end of the run. Wed matinee probably best bet if that works for you.

I agree with this- last time I queued (2 wks ago) I was on my own in the queue for over an hour, I got there at 7 to be on the safe side- it was a Tuesday. I am sure there aren't as many as 40 tks available; my understanding is that they only sell the front row ones as day seats (so 14), and then some balcony seats, at their discretion on the day. |
