Is this show likely to transfer to Broadway next or is there a chance it will open on the West End first? West End first hopefully! |

It is transferring to the West End. It was created for the West End, and the Almeida run was arranged afterwards. Rather than being an Almeida play that was successful enough for them to start talking to West End theatres.
Details are embargoed for now.
I’m not sure if they have a theatre and dates confirmed or not yet for the Broadway run. But a Broadway run has been in discussion for at least a couple of years.

Since the run at the Almeida is sold out, we may get an announcement this week if they want to take advantage of the press night and reviews coming their way.

I’d be shocked if it didn’t got to Broadway. It’ll go down an absolute storm. I loved it. James Graham is a genius (but we knew that already!). Katie Brayben is going to win all the awards. Elton John, it turns out, *can* still write a good tune. (I know some people have wondered…) Particularly big belty drag-your -heart-out-through-your-throat-and-leave-it-on-the-stage tunes. There’s a couple of real showstoppers in this. And Jake Shears does fine work with the lyrics. And it’s really funny. Loved the little Jesus Christ Superstar joke |

This afternoon no-one clapped along to See You In Heaven - or really responded as if it was bows - until the cast started clapping the beat. I don’t think people quite realised that it was meant to be a bows number. The cast looked a bit disconcerted at the silence - there was clear relief on their faces when the audience stood right at the end.
I am not sure that a bows number that is not a reprise works - I wanted to listen to and take in the song, which you can’t do when you are applauding bows.

Its really confusing isn't it and takes a little time to realise it is the bows and not the last number. I hope the creatives change this as it Will be better for both cast and audience. |

I was there this afternoon too and this felt SUPER awkward. You could really see the confusion on the casts face (especially Andrew and Katie) as to why no one was clapping. Other than that this was 5 stars for me too. The finalé number of act 1 surely had to earn Katie the Olivier on its own! She’s just incredible. Glad I’ve got a ticket for a return visit in a few weeks! |

Loved this yesterday (matinee)!
We were sat in the side in circle & supposedly restricted view seats, nothing to worry about was perfect view and a steal for the price I paid for two tickets!
This was such an upbeat & emotional score & show, it truly was glorious (I can’t wait for it to make it to the West-End & no doubt Broadway in its future!).
Sure it’s a little overlong but it’s so fresh, the set is simple yet effective and the ensemble is brilliant with Katie giving a career best top of their game performance, that Act 1 closing number (goosebumps & tears!)

I actually bought a programme for this yesterday - £5, but that’s inflation for you.
There’s a nice glossy section of rehearsal photos, and the transcript of the famous interview. But the thing that made me smirk was that there’s an essay on pop music and religion, which leads off by discussing Madonna. I wonder if the author was aware of the long-running feud between Madonna and Elton John? Madonna fans are particularly salty about Elton….

I could see Tammy Faye do a January transfer to the Phoenix for a limited run, followed by Into the Woods once Alex Young has completed Standing at the Sky's Edge at the Olivier.

I can't imagine Tammy Faye being a limited run in the West End, it's more likely be open ended.
Would the Gielgud be an option or is TKAM intending to stay put?

Is Duke of Yorks suitable for a musical? Tends to be more plays there. It's had a couple like Little Shops of Horrors, By Jeeves and Rent Remixed. The Garrick might be an option after Orlando but they'd have to wait until March. |
