I never knew Elton co-wrote I Don't Feel Like Dancing!
I'm booked to see it again in Nov and December but I already want to go back before then. I wonder if they'll make changes during this run or come together after it's finished and consider changes then. I'm hoping it's during the run so its in its best shape for the practically guaranteed transfer to a larger west end house.

I never knew Elton co-wrote I Don't Feel Like Dancing! . 😃 I don’t think many people do. It’s funny, because once you know, it’s really obvious when you listen to it. It totally sounds like a 70s track given a contemporary make-over - and Jake’s even doing an Elton-esque falsetto. (Back in the day Elton could hit those high notes!) Not to totally derail the thread, but when I was looking for that clip last night I also found an acoustic version with just piano and vocals - I bet this is a lot closer to how it was originally composed, before they sped it up and turned it into a full-on dance track: |

Lots of availability still showing. Booked a £15 RV seat for a Friday evening following Catch Me If You Can at ArtsEd in the afternoon. Never been to the Almeida and seeing Andrew Rannells for £15 seems too good to turn down, especially when the sext next to it is £45!

I also grabbed one of the RV in Stalls row C for a midweek matinee and they are even cheaper than in the evening, only £10! I saw Patriots in the same seat and the restriction was minimal, although that always depends on the production. Let's hope it's not too bad for Tammy Faye

Had a chuckle with myself as all these mentions of RV threw me for a loop briefly. In the States that term is most commonly associated with Recreational Vehicle, so I was picturing a bunch of theatregoers lounging in a large Airstream in the back of the theatre while enjoying the show. That view also might be a bit restricted, but certainly would be comfortable.

After trying to get a ticket for this for weeks - I looked at the website again at 1am last night and got a ticket for October 28th. So happy. I called the box office 7 times recently!

Got to say this was excellent tonight. Picked up a late £10 restricted view ticket and the poles didn’t really bother me.
Katie Brayben will win awards. I did get reminded of her excellent Carole King. The accent is so similar and there are similarities in parts of the plot.
I didn’t get Book of Mormon vibes at all, although there’s certainly comedy. Much more realism here. I was surprised how little the gay connection and HIV/AIDS played into the plot. Also very disappointed by the (small number of) audience members who found a man with AIDS bearing his soul during a serious scene funny.
Several audience members in who were being recognised by others, but sadly I couldn’t place them. One was possibly James Graham.
It is a long show, not finishing until 10:30pm (started 5 minutes or so late). I found the first half more engaging than the second.
Not sure why people bring children under 10 to a show like this. It isn’t offensive (to me at least) but it’s not a plot I can see many children following. The ones here tonight were behaved.
Glad I already have a ticket booked for November. These will be very hard to get.

I was also there tonight, and thought it was pretty sensational. Katie Brayben is astonishing. Andrew Rannells is great but definitely a supporting role. Zubin Varla is tremendously impressive.
Didn't hear any inappropriate response around me about some of the later plots but did feel the declaration about who had kept Tammy going in her later years was somewhat shoehorned in.

I was surprised the scene with Steve Pieters was staged like he was actually there in person for it, when it was actually done via satellite link up. I know its on stage, artistic license etc But when your back wall is literally made up of TV screens... Adding the hug at the end felt like it was trying a little too hard to paint her in a certain way. Andrew Rannels singing about Jesus in a song that lovingly mocks religion and you didn't get BoM vibes? 'He's Inside Me' even sounds like 'Baptise Me' and both songs are just innuendo. As long as you enjoyed it that's what matters
but did feel the declaration about who had kept Tammy going in her later years was somewhat shoehorned in. That made me laugh so much! It was unexpected. |

I saw on Twitter just now that the theatre have said it is worth queueing for returns if sold out and they have been able to accommodate everyone in the queue each night so far.

Saw this again tonight.
Whilst the changes since last Friday seem to be just a few line changes and couple of extra bits of projection etc. I definitely enjoyed it more this evening.
It did feel like the second act flowed better, not too sure on whether dialogue has been cut or tightened though. I would still cut a few songs but it somehow felt more complete tonight, that was maybe just second viewing and paying attention to more things.
The main thing of note I think is if Katie Brayben was 10/10 last time, tonight she was 12/10. Absolutely sensational.

I can't think of the last time I went to a musical not having heard a single note of the music so didn't know what to expect.
Anyway it's a solid 5 stars from me as I absolutely loved this show.
I am not sure how to do spoilers so I will be a bit vague so as not to spoil anything for those still to see it.
Loved the set, fairly simple but very clever. Cast were excellent and lord knows how many costume changes there were but there were a lot.
One of the main reasons for wanting to see the musical was to see Andrew Rannells as I have always been a bit of a fan and he really did not disappoint at all. As a couple of other people have mentioned that Andrew Rannells can only do Andrew Rannells which is true but that was just perfect for me. Also as others have mentioned Zubin Varla (who I have never heard of) gave a stand out performance and what can I say about Katie Brayben? Nothing apart from "and the Oliver goes to Katie Brayben"
Loved the songs which were a mixture of uplifting gospel style songs and heart breaking ballads. I really hope that there is a cast recording in the not too distant future.
The musical is both very, very funny and quite sad and poinient.
I think someone else has mentioned about the final number/bows and have to agree. You think you are just watching the final number "See you in heaven" and its not until 3 or 4 of the cast members have taken a bow that you realise it's the actual bows and the in-time to the music clapping changes to applause. Personally I would have liked to have seen the number in full and then had the bows.
Sat centre of the front row so had a fantastic view and my friend had to restrain me from actually reaching out and touching Andrew Rannalls.
Would love to see this again but not sure if that would work out so I really hope there is an after life for Tammy.
Walked past Rupert Gould on the way out, wanted to congratulate him but he was in deep conversation with some other people.
Oh and head to the bad behaviour thread for a moan.
