Yeah the coming down the stairs moment is very flat (mainly because the staircase is MASSIVE and it takes her half an hour to get down it, but you also see her come up the stairs from the wings) - it doesn't have the impact it's had previously of the curtain opening at the top of the stairs and there is Dolly... This was my biggest note after seeing the first performance, SURELY you would cover the passageway from SL to the top of the stairs? Lost a huge amount of the momentum. When the waiter does the big SHE'S HERE, I was like... I know, I can see her and I shouldn't be able to! I need to go back and see it again because I'm finding myself less enamoured with it the more I think about it and all the unnecessary changes...

Is Imelda doing all Saturday Matineee's? Want to bring someone in September.
(apologies as a quick look throught 48! pages failed to find a subject I'm sure has been covered)

Is Imelda doing all Saturday Matineee's? Want to bring someone in September. (apologies as a quick look throught 48! pages failed to find a subject I'm sure has been covered) Imelda is a work-horse and will do all shows. The only exception will be if she’s ill. Otherwise, she’ll be there.

It would be very handy if she fancied a night off as I'd LOVE to see Jodie Jacobs as Dolly

Went in blind, the show was good. Polished visuals and impeccable choreography, however I hoped for a little more spectacle and more elevated costuming on Dolly. Imelda was a great choice to cast, as a lot of pre-show chatter surrounded her. I can’t help but feel like a lot of people are seeing her onstage as ‘the Elizabeth II actress’ and therefore instantly become empathetic and adore her character here? I can imagine Bette was incredible, and at times I wished that Imelda’s Dolly was more ‘exuberant’. Gasps when she first came onstage, and a lot of laughs during her lines. The book still holds up very well, although the plot kinda just plods along by the end. The Harmonia Gardens choreography, two tables and fight scenes were fantastic to watch. The walking down the steps was awkward and you could already see the green dress as she was round the side. Orchestra of course sounded fantastic. Not something I’d rush back to see, although it was nice to catch it before the end of the run. I was most likely the youngest person in that audience though!!

Finally starting to see some social media ads that aren't the heart logo on black background, or imelda being interviewed.
Now one with a press quote and imelda in the green dress with dancers. Much more appealing

Apologies if this has been discussed already, but there´s a new discount on the LW Website. 25% off when you buy a single seat for Dolly.

This entirely met my expectations, which had been somewhat tempered after hearing initial reports of this production. It’s doing its own thing with the show and that’s absolutely fine. A lot of it is excellent - the band sounds fantastic and the comedy is played well. It is all very well acted, but I do wish that some of the roles had been cast with singers with more lyrical voices. And the choreography didn’t really do much for me, it was all a bit too frenetic and lacked a sense of flow. ‘Elegance’ was the only number where I really liked the choreography.
Imelda’s ‘So Long Dearie’ was the highlight of the evening for me. The title number sounded phenomenal but once you’ve seen the Gower Champion staging, even just a video of it, nothing else can ever compare!

I really enjoyed this when I saw it on Wednesday at the Matinee. It was a full house and had a great response. For a limited run I was impressed with the staging and the Orchestra sounded lovely.

Yes, I think for a limited Palladium run this is very good!
I do think if this transferred or toured that the set may not stack up with other West End musicals and will have to bump up the budget a bit. The screen at the back is by far the cheapest thing here.

Made my second of three booked trips to this on Thursday evening. Such a wonderful evening again.
Dame Imelda seems to get better with each performance.
No standing ovation for the title number but an entrance applause for Imelda at the beginning.

I was unpleasantly surprised when I saw that premium seats for this were up to £150! I am rethinking if I should book it now.

I would love to see the list of songs included in this production. Would anyone who got a program mind posting a photo of it?

I didnt like this and im sure this mostly due to the changes in the book and dull choreography
Cast are good and its funny but yet the pace drags. I liked Love, Look In My Window but Penny in my pocket is such a dull song that just created further lag. Why?
I LOVED the Open Air theatre production which zipped by, had 'elegance' and pathos. Unfortunately this failed to impress.
Can anyone point towards an article about the changes made for this production? Id be interested to see why changes were necessary.

I suspect they added Penny in for the same reason they did in NYC- to help cast someone as Vandergelder. Without a song- he really doesn’t have much to do. Some people may find that song charming. It grinds the show to a halt for me.

It is a weak song, but I found the way he performed it, as if to the audience directly, made it a lot better.

Saw the matinee yesterday. Dame Imelda captured the pain of being a widow who is struggling to move on with her life so masterfully. I actually liked that the staircase moment was her fighting back the tears as all the memories of visiting Harmonia Gardens with her late husband came back. Although it would have then been nice to see her spirits lift more as she was swept up in the excitement of the dancing. Unlike Gypsy where she seemed to capture every aspect of her character so well, this felt a bit too much stuck in grief. What I missed was the sense of mischief, especially during the opening number where she should be annoying everyone with her business cards. Saying that, she did get a few laughs, and had fun with the opening section of So, Long Dearie! But the scene where she eats the turkey, that was hilariously funny on Broadway, was tucked away in a far corner and didn’t really get many laughs at all. I actually quite like her singing voice in general. A lot of the comedy heavy lifting is left to Emily Lane who was the perfect Minnie Fay.
I thought the travellators were used far too much, and were most effective during Elegance. The choreography was a bit too much throwing each other around for me. I prefer the stylistic walking and swaying that you get more in other versions.
It was enjoyable but I wasn’t blown away at the same time.

While we´re at it, does anyone have the orchestra lineup? As in: who plays which instrument.

Couldn't agree more with this. She overdid it in ‘Frozen’ quite distractingly, but was fab in ‘Starter for Ten’ and has somehow made an impression in this with a pretty minor part; her performance is lovely, nuanced and much more than is on the page.

Surprised about the praise for Minnie Fey, I thought she was the weakest and her humour rarely landed.

Surprised about the praise for Minnie Fey, I thought she was the weakest and her humour rarely landed. Same. It was the other Emily (Langham?) as Ermengarde, who got the majority of the laughs from her we saw it.
