Made my second of three booked trips to this on Thursday evening. Such a wonderful evening again. Dame Imelda seems to get better with each performance. No standing ovation for the title number but an entrance applause for Imelda at the beginning. That Title number as staged here does not deserve a standing ovation. No one should be ovating mid-show for anything. The vanity of the audience. It’s not about you! 😂

The title song of this show, if done well, should 100% get a standing ovation. And I´m not one of those who will stand up easily.

100%. That title number, when a showstopper, absolutely deserves a standing ovation.
It can stop the show - literally. It doesn't here.

I'll say upfront that 'musical comedies' are not my thing. Old fashioned musical comedies even less so. I've never seen the show before or even the film version.
It was OK. It's probably really good if you like that kind of thing. The show comes to a grinding halt whenever there's a ballad. And they're not short ballads either. The plot is mostly nonsense. My big question is why is Dolly treated with such reverance when she goes back to the restaurant? What made her such a big deal to warrant all that attention and fuss? Sometimes the set looked great on that big stage, other times it looked a bit sparse. When did Imelda Staunton become some kind of national treasure for musical theatre? The audience ate it all up and were quite clearly there mainly to see her. I went because £45 for middle of row S in the stalls was a good price and i've never seen it before. Would I go back and see it again? No.

Her late husband would take her there all the time, so they know it must be emotional for her going back there for the first time since his passing. Also, she takes time to speak to all of the waiters by name and take an interest in them.

Not a massive fan of the show - I've dodged being in it twice - but this was great. We got cheap box tickets and so couldn't appreciate the expensive set, but the trade off was to see them up close and she was clearly having a blast. And the audience LOVED it.
One random thing did occur that we could see from where we were sat. As he 'released' a bench onto the treadmill from the wings, one of the crew and waved it off. Surreal.

Does anyone have an experience of upgrading tickets at the box office on the day? We booked front row of the upper circle when they first went on sale which I now regret and am wondering if they do any last minute offers?

Finally won the ticket lottery today, but the seats offered are worse than those I’ve been offered through Rush and Drops, so holding off for now. Mostly rear side Stalls and Dress Circle.

As in TodayTix Drops, which offers various "secret" discounted seats for next three days. Some of the deals are very good, some of them not. They can have two seats next to each other, one with a 70% discount and one with a 20% discount. More people know about Drops now, so some of the better deals are snapped up very quickly. I have side row F tonight through Drops for £26.40. Only a very slight restriction. I haven't managed to quite get the bargain front row seats that others have, but this one is pretty good.

Hadn’t heard of that. Interesting. Is it on the app? Can’t find it. Yes, but I think you need to be at least silver level in the rewards scheme. That's only 6 tickets, so quite easy to hit if you buy rush tickets etc occasionally. Also, I remember another post where someone could see this on iPhone but not Android (I've only tested iPhone).

I'll say upfront that 'musical comedies' are not my thing. Old fashioned musical comedies even less so. I find this fascinating as the monika you use is a character from a musical comedy🤔.Did you play him in a revival of The Boy Friend? Please explain. It's just a profilne name. Nothing more.
Whilst I don't particularly like musical comedies in general, I quite like the pastiche of The Boy Friend, yet can't abide something twee, like Salad Days

Won the lottery today and bought tickets without checking if my Grandad could make it; he can’t! So listed 2 tickets on the notice board for Wednesday. Just looking for my money back. Stalls row G £29.50.
Message for anymore info
Hopefully can take him later in the run, as would love to catch this.

Long gone by the time I looked, but surprised they’re needing to give them away so blatantly.
Brilliant show again tonight. Andy Nyman is so underrated.

I've not seen a production of this before or even the film but I enjoyed it tonight.
I wasn't completely won over by the first half but I thought it picked up a lot in the second and I did think Hello Dolly was a show stopper, some people did stand for it and in generally the audience response was huge. Similarly a massive ovation for Imelda at the end.

Thank you so much! I was able to secure two seats for friends of mine who are students and probably couldn't afford to go otherwise. They are over the moon!

Seems that these tickets were intended for NHS staff and so it's a bit icky that the link was shared on hotdeals.

Really enjoyed this last night. I don’t think I fully understood Before the Parade Passes By until I saw Imelda perform it. There’s a real pathos in her portrayal of Dolly and moments which made me genuinely quite emotional. Dominic Cooke has definitely turned things around with his version of this show and has added weight to it leading to a rather cathartic experience. Perhaps the star of the show is the orchestra which Jerry Herman musicals demand. Both the title number and Sunday Clothes set my heart alight. I probably won’t get to see this production again but my, oh my what a terrific way to start the week!

That’s the danger of promo codes. The worse thing is, people book free tickets then just don’t turn up (as they’ve not lost anything), or worse, they sell them on.
Perhaps the Palladium can do some form of ID checking? Although that could be problematic with how bad the queues to get in are already.
