I liked that tour too, it’s what got me into the show. There was a lovely chunky fella in the chorus who wasn’t very light on his feet. Couldn’t take my eyes off! Goes on sale next Friday 3rd. Presale for ENO members 1st Nov.

Surely they’re not going to open booking and be flogging £150 stalls seats without people knowing who’s in it.

Haha, that rings a bell!! I have the brochure stored away somewhere - I'll have to refresh my memory.
There was so much to love about that tour. Saw it in Nottingham and Milton Keynes.
The cast were fab and the actor/musician integration was seamless, fun and imaginative.

Maybe they can finally get Lara Fabian to play Florence. She was slated to do that for the Actors Fund concert (the one with Julia Murney and Josh Groban) but pulled out last minute and that's when the fierce Julia Murney took over.

Julian Ovenden for Anatoly, Jeremy Jordan for Freddie, Laura Osnes for Florence and Tommy Korberg for Molokov. Don't really mind who plays the other roles.

Chess, however, is a good choice. It will work very well as a "concert" style production. Fully staged productions have never really worked. It will sound glorious with the 48 piece orchestra. Some great numbers especially Anthem. I loved Josh Groban as Anatoly at the RAH. Would he sell tickets?
A better choice than Carousel IMO. Hope to see this subject to the casting.

I will go for sure but who is cast will depend on how much I want to spend on a ticket so will wait until cast announced.

Read more: theatreboard.co.uk/thread/730/chess?page=13#ixzz4whmBjLRHYeah I know, but just don't let the likes of Alfie Boe and Katherine Jenkins anywhere near it. Is Jake Gyllenhall as Anatoly a big enough name?

On the opposite side of the scale to the London Coliseum, when Chess played the old Union Theatre, it sold out in a shot, so yes the piece is popular with the British public, but the Colesium has to shift 2,400 more tickets than the union at 6x the price, it is names that shift tickets, not the show, so as others have alluded to they will need a name or 2, I mentioned earlier in this thread Nicole Scherzinger who single handedly sold out the London Palladium for Cats, I feel she would have the same effect if she played Florence for ENO.

Do we even know that Nicole S is capable of doing it though? Singing one song a night in Cats or performing at the Royal Variey is a rather different proposition to Florence in Chess isn’t it?

Good God, who in their right mind would pay £15 to see Nicole Scherzinger butcher such a great set of songs let alone £150?
Are there that many sado-masochists in London to fill the Coliseum?

Oooh I'm excited. I love Chess. I will fight to the death for it being called 'sh*t' and I pray that one day someone has some kind of divine intervention to sort out the messes in it.
Until then I'm just happy to have it back.

Will be interesting to see which version of the show they perform. It has never really found a finished form. Perhaps this is intended to do just that.

Perhaps this is intended to do just that. The trouble is we’ve heard Tim Rice tell us that it’s finally found its finished form about the same number of times Andrew Lloyd Webber has told us that the last version of Jesus Christ Superstar he saw was the best he’s ever seen! I’ve a huge amount respect for these gents. Between them they have given me endless afternoons and evenings of pleasure in the theatre, but I’ve trusted what they’ve said less and less in recent years. Whatever form Chess takes it’ll be a winner. It might crank along a bit as a story, but those songs are something else! Anthem actually makes my chest hurt! Can’t wait!!!

To be fair, the old Union Theatre accommodated about fifty people in the audience for that particular production...! And in that production Natasha Barnes took the role of Svetlana. (Waaaay before all that Funny Girl malarkey!)

It's only on for a month, she'll turn up at least three nights a week for that. Just sayin' . . . With Jonathan Pryce as The Arbiter.

I honestly think Florence could be a great musical theatre debut for a (good) pop singer wanting to make a cross over debut without a long term commitment.
Kelly Clarkson, please.

Lets hope it wont be too long before the cast is announced. Just hope they can do justice to what is a cracking score.
