"Trumper" could hardly be a more unfortunate name for a leading character. On the other hand he is a bit of a self-pitying narcissistic jerk. Tim Rice is a well known cricket nut and Trumper was a famous Australian batsman fron 100 years ago.

Am afraid my fellow Bexleyite is right. If this is confirmed at the ENO then they will need star casting, particularly because for joe public it will be an unfamiliar work. Kerry Ellis and Nicole? Kerry Ellis is not star casting. I’ll give you Nicole ‘cos she’s on the telly, but she’s done herself no favours in this country by associating herself with that tv programme. I think joe public would be surprised that she can actually sing.

I think Nicole is more well know to the British public for selling yoghurt than singing these days. She has a decent voice but its nothing exceptional and as for acting...
Her in cats is the combination of a well loved show that hadnt been in london for a while and a recognised leading name. Her selling something like Chess which is a lot less known is another matter

Oh God no. I'd take Idina Menzel back in a second if it prevented us getting Nicole Scherzinger.

Maybe they will do a sweeney Todd and cast musical theatre like they did with Emma Thomson. Plenty of A listers out there with a set of pipes that we don't normally see in musicals.

Would of thought it would be announced soon as they've been auditioning this week.

Really excited by this. Love a huge orchestra! Hope we get some casting in - I keep hearing Idina mentioned all over the place, but I'll be seriously surprised!

Bracing myself for the ticket prices. The seat that cost me £57 for Sunset Boulevard was £110 for Carousel, which is why I didn't see Carousel.

Well, you didn't miss much to be fair, apart from Alfie's wig.
I love the Chess score but was disappointed by the actors being musicians last production that did the rounds. Hoping for better things with this.

The one thing that's absolutely certain about this production is that it won't be using actor-musicians. Fingers crossed it also won't emulate that tour by dressing the chorus in costumes that look like they come from the S&M department at Poundland.

Taking my mother in law to see Chess and then getting that bizarre s and m version was one of my more uncomfortable theatre experiences! Will definitely be booking for this though, one of my favourite scores which should sound magnificent.

I have read somewhere that Bjorn and Benny had a meeting with Tim Rice recently. So I assume that some changes will be made.

How long do we reckon this run is? The actual article in the Daily Fail says until 2 June, so about the same window as Sunset Blvd and Carousel.

Very excited about this and looking forward to (or slightly dreading) casting; would love to see Will Chase as Freddie.

Me too- I really enjoyed it! Very excited for the ENO production. Hopefully will take the best bits of the Albert Hall production but without Menzel's nasal whining to ruin it.
