Settle down, children. I know it's been tense and difficult for all of us with limited cast information on Chess and Chicago, but we have to keep it together. I for one haven't been able to sleep and it has been causing me great anxiety. My therapist says I should do breathing exercises and should avoid message board speculations and just wait for the official announcement.

I wasn't aware that the thread was only for casting news! Very sorry if some kind of "new poster" status made anybody think I would be posting about casting. I thought the board was for any kind of discussion about the show concerned. I'm sorry if anybody was disappointed by my post. Disappointed? DISAPPOINTED? DEVASTATED!!! (Learn to spot low quality sarcasm rjschess it wasn’t a dig...and truly welcome to the board! 😀).

Have heard some crazy (and AMAZING) rumours about one of the leading ladies...hoping they confirm soon! It has to be soon! OMGosh. It's La Paige isn't it? She's coming back. She's blow drying her hair as we speak so that it's big enough for the Coliseum.

Do you think if we all started tweeting some wild unsubstantiated rumour to the point where it got taken seriously we could force their arm in actually announcing something? Stick Cynthia Erivo’s name into it.. see what happens 🙂

There's been lots of speculation about the women who might get cast, but what about the men? What names could possibly be Freddie and Anatoly?
Michael Ball? As long as he's not paired opposite Alfie Boe. Though it wouldn't surprise me.

That would be so obvious and so boring if they go with that route. I also think he's outgrown the role. He was 38 when he did Chess in London. Yes, he "read" older back then, and so did the rest of the cast, but I suppose that's how people looked back in the day. These characters are supposed to be in their 30s or early 40s. It wouldn't make any sense to cast Michael Ball who is well into his 50s to play this character going through what Anatoly is going through.

I want to see Groban as Anatoly and someone like Tim Minchin as Freddie....a bit edgier.

Agreed, it would be horrific indeed. I think we've been there/done that with Groban (as suitable as he is)..It's a good though anti-climactic choice, but I really like the idea of Tim Minchin.

Can anybody tweet "I'd love to see Cynthia Erivo in the ensemble of Chess"? I'd love to read her replies

Tim Minchin cant sing, well he can, but its not pleasant. Anyone who saw him in JCS will agree.

I am still hoping for Ramin Karimloo. I am not sure that Tim Minchin is a good enough actor or singer and Groban is just a bit vanilla vocally.
At his concert there was an ENO Chess sized gap in his future plans (Chess concert in the US early in the year and Che in Japan in the Summer) and he seems to be planning to stay in the UK.....
His 'Anthem' is so good, even with a banjo.

Michael Ball went from Les Mis to Phantom, then Aspects of Love in the 80s. No time for Chess, and as wrong for it then as he would be now.
