Has the set been stolen? It's one very empty stage in that trailer. It pretty much is. There's not alot of space so they can't afford to have too much set. The pieces that they do bring on work perfectly fine. But it's nothing crazy. |

Wishing for the Normal has been one of my "I know it's cheesy but it makes me smile" songs for a while, so I had to give this a go. The dialogue is clunky in places and it could have been trimmed a bit for me but there are some lovely songs in there and the story flowed well enough. Loved Luke Bayer's vocals. Decent sized audience and we were invited to move forward if we wanted.

Tickets for £15 are available for Soho Cinders through to December 13 via a seat filler company. It's described as a partner offer rather than seat filling but no choice of seats.

Saw the matinee yesterday - while I didn't feel it was as strong as the Soho Theatre production a few years ago, it's still a very enjoyable show and a tuneful musical. Luke and Millie make very charming leads and sound great (Luke's rendition of 'They Don't Make Glass Slippers' in particular was sublime). The 'ugly sisters' are a lot of fun with great coming timing, although I did think 'I'm So Ever Men' became too much of a shouty mess at times to be able to decipher the funny lyrics. I also though that Lewis Asquith was underwhelming in both his acting and singing, and didn't have much chemistry with Luke. But I still really enjoyed it overall, the songs make sure you have a good time.
The performance was around two thirds full, and those nearer the back were asked to move forward.

Given that it's not a large venue and moving forward doesn't seem to be a problem I reckon the £15 offer is a good deal. Booked. |

I saw and really enjoyed Soho Cinders when staged at the Bridewell Theatre in July so I always intended to see it at Charing Cross. Took a punt on waiting for a deal like this £15 one. ( The Bridewell always puts on shows with top notch amateur performers. Their Ragtime a couple of weeks ago was West End standard in every regard.) |

Apparently, Luke and Millie will be leaving on the original closing date - 21st December.

Finally got there yesterday. Was panicking that I wasn't going to fit it in and by the time I came out of the matinee, an extension had been announced! But at least I saw most of the original cast, I suppose.
I enjoyed myself, it's a warm and witty show with some lovely performances, especially from the leads; I loved both Luke and Millie.
The 'ugly sisters' were funny in places and a bit OTT in others - I really couldn't make out the lyrics in I'm So Over Men, which got very shouty. I'm sure they'd have got more laughs if the audience could hear them better.
A very patchy house, and the ushers were telling people they couldn't move until the interval. A shame for the cast to look out on so many empty seats, and although the audience all seemed to enjoy themselves, it's hard to create an atmosphere when they're so dotted around.
Really odd to announce an extension when it doesn't seem to be selling well, even with offers, but good luck to them. This should be doing much better than it is.

I guess it is SO cheap to run and they have nothing else booked in so it's just about worth it to extend. Also with some decent marketing (hopefully pending) it is a show that really should do well over Xmas/New Year. Hope it can, was a fun night.
