I remember being at the concert version of this show which was recorded and available on CD.
They had to re-record "I'm so over men" at the end of concert as the audience laughter was so loud it overpowered the song. I remember actually crying with laughter at the time.

Saw it last night. Always loved the CD, and the show has a strong book. Tori Hargreaves was the stand-out performance for me. Problem is it really doesn't work in transverse. The energy of the show can't flow both ways and the comedy is lost unless played face to face in the centre. Still 4 stars from me as it is entertaining. Would you recommend row A as a better front row option than row K, or do they play equally to both ? Only around 50 seats sold for each of the six remaining performances this week but this ( very tucked away and low profile) theatre doesn't seem to use TKTS or TodayTix |

^We were on Row B and it felt as though the director had tried to play equally to both sides.Actors were constantly on the move.Have re-booked for the fam for December as we(actor friend and myself)had a wonderful time.
It is a strange stage layout.Traverse or alley/corridor staging is played as a catwalk with audience on either side usually at stage level,but this set-up has audience on raked bleachers facing down on two opposite sides.Not ideal at all for creatives or audience.

I haven’t seen this yet, but am yet to see a production in the new layout that works well - I do think it throws up challenges for directors that they have so far failed to meet. I have always left feeling it would have been better on a traditional stage. Southwark and the Kings Cross theatre manage(d) it so much better! I wonder how flexible the seating is; maybe a 3 sided audience, like at the Donmar (and often at Southwark) would work better? Nonetheless, I’m looking forward to Soho Cinders, as I love the CD so much. |

I felt that A got a bit more face time during some of the big solos, certainly for "Glass Slipper" that was the case. Along similar lines, would high or low number seats have any advantage? Where do the actors enter and exit from? Thanks! |

I remember seeing Amour at Charing Cross in May and the stage and seating had been reconvened since my previous visit. That show involved, as I recall, a lot of cycling around the performance area and the traverse stage worked well. I really enjoyed Amour but it wasn't a commercial success and closed 6 weeks earlier than originally planned . It seems a decision has been taken not to revert to a standard stage for subsequent productions that are arguably less suited to the current layout. |

Having looked at the seating plan, i see that its the same configuration as it was for Violet.
I actually didnt mind that because its a decent sized playing area. When i saw it was traverse i had visions of it being like Grand Hotel at the SP, which was a disaster in terms of staging, IMO.
Phew. Am looking forward to this again now!

The seating hasn't changed an inch since Amour - except they are using one aisle less. Along similar lines, would high or low number seats have any advantage? Go central, but otherwise I'd say high numbers for the outer aisles, as they use balcony 1 (the one on the entrance door side of the theatre) for some action, and the orchestra is in the other balcony. Thanks Monkey :-) Just listened to the CD. Stiles and Drew do remind me a bit of Menken. Good, reliable, serviceable, some fun melodies but never quite making the leap to music that really moves me. Have a medium interest in seeing this to which I will no doubt succumb once the deals come out. The said, IMHO this is the second worst theatre in London after The Arts. The toilets are disgusting (blocked and overwhelming urine smell whenever I have been) and the auditorium only seems to exist as the tropics or the arctic. And the general consensus seems to be that the change in layout hasn't done it any favours! |

I've never had a problem with the Ladies' loos there in the half a dozen times I've been there in the last few years. (Although mentioning it may be a bad idea, if all the men in the audience then decide to identify as female in order to use the better loos!) I also thought the air con was better a few months ago than it had been in previous years, though admittedly I'd go for arctic in a theatre any time.

The reviews for this show were pretty mediocre and the photos make the show look very cheap. Is it still worth seeing? It seems like a cute premise but i think the book for this would be key but it could go the cheesy/campy effect very easily.

I'm really surprised with the comments about the toilets. I've always found them really nice and the gents very spacious. For a small theatre they are better than many west end theatres where the toilets are so cramped. Granted I've not been to Charing Cross theatre for a year or so maybe they have gone downhill. |

^It has a wonderful score with some up-tempo bangers and a couple of strong ballads.The cast gave it everything...the sort of show that puts a smile on your face...yes,cheesy with some cringeworthy jokes,but very entertaining.I have re-booked already.

Has anyone spotted any offers for this yet? Really wanting to see this, but want to try and save some money where I can. Might just have to hold out until some start to appear! It does surprise me that CCT very rarely have tickets on TodayTix, as I remember getting great tickets for Titanic off there!

Row J stalls or the four seats in the balcony are £20. Balcony is much closer if you are happy to peer over and lose a bit of near action. The balcony should only be considered for those who cannot use the stairs and it’s not ideal. The venue needs better seating for those with access restrictions if they are going to maintain the traverse as they should be marketed as restricted view. |

The place really isn’t doing well at all. Seems to have a constant stream of flops that make it no money. How is it managing to survive?
They should really start using similar techniques other companies use with seat-filling and Rush tickets etc to build word of mouth and gain exposure.
