Could Rhys Ifans be the new Atticus? He was originally meant to do it and I can't see why he would not want to.

I wonder who's replacing Richard Coyle as Atticus? I'd like to see them go for another Coupling actor and go for Ben Miles or perhaps a bigger name like Richard Madden? He's just started?

Seeing that Patrick O'Kane is leaving at cast change and would be very very grateful if anyone knows about any potential Atticus dates he has?

Matthew Modine is quite a catch for them, very tempted with a return visit to see what he does with it.

I really wish there was a published play text for this. I understand issues with the Lee estate etc but it's a missed opportunity for education and fans alike!

I was reading TKAM aloud to a class I was teaching the other week, and was really channelling my inner Anna Munden. She brought a bunch of real humour (as close as you can get) that I'd never really appreciated before seeing her in the role in the summer. That shift in register between the action and Scout's view of it. Would love the playscript as a companion!

Anyone seen/seeing Matthew Modine as Atticus yet? Planning to return for another visit but wondering whether to hold off and see if there’s another extension past April with another actor!

Also thoughts on a final West End Atticus. I’m hoping they manage to get Rhys Ifans in for a stint if it’s not extending beyond July. Other votes in my household are going to Mark Strong and Ralph Fiennes but those seem increasingly unlikely!

Saw this last night. I hadn't read the book, nor seen the film version with Gregory Peck, so this was my first time experiencing the story performed, even though I knew what happened beforehand. This was a lovely piece of theatre and I was engaged from beginning to end. Everyone of the actors were on top form, including Matthew Modine as Atticus Finch. The staging was also very well done and I really liked the two musicians who play the guitar and piano.
The only issue I took, and this is just a personal nitpick, was that I felt that Modine may had been a bit too old to play Atticus. I always imagined the character to be between his mid-40s to mid-50s, but that's just me.
Overall, I had a wonderful time at the Gielgud and I'm even tempted to watch this again in the near future.

Matthew Modine is 63 but he looks a lot older, Jeff Daniels was the same age when he originated the role but he looks younger. I think Rafe Spall and Richard Coyle were more age appropriate IMO

I think Rafe Spall and Richard Coyle were more age appropriate IMO I agree. Matthew Modine looks like he could be Scout and Jem's grandfather not their father.

Some brilliant seats available at just £15 for this on TodayTix. Just got row D dress circle for £15 - usually top price/premium, for next week Monday. Now that's a deal!

I booked for this on a whim too, as I couldn't resist row F of the stalls for the price of a coffee and a sandwich (or two coffees and two sandwiches, as I'm taking a friend too). Saving on calories, bingeing on theatre in 2023, I guess. :)

Not to my knowledge, that's going elsewhere. Gielgud I think gets something short from June-Aug, and then something is definitely booked in from September

I thought mrbarnaby mentioned Stranger Things and the Gielgud. Maybe I'm wrong. Can anyone say what is going to the Gielgud then - maybe The Piano Lesson?
