Two and a half stars is what I'd give it. I've rated it three as two feels a touch harsh for what was a completely competent if incredibly dull show.
Hugely international audience. Stalls rather full.
This, to my taste, is the epitome of a bang average screen-to-stage adaptation. There's just not one aspect which wowed me.
For such an "epic" show, it feels simultaneously undercooked and overly long. Boy does it feel long. Starting at 19:37 and finally coming down at 22:22, I had to actually leave during the curtain call in order to make my last train - which I did by a mere minute(!). It certainly isn't a good enough show to justify a night on a Victoria station's platform!
I liked a couple of the numbers, disliked a couple and didn't really care about the rest. A large part is the problem I had was the sheer irrelevance of the setting and characters. I sort of ended up shrugging with indifference about absolutely everyone.
The way the story transitions is lazy and ugly from a narrative viewpoint. I've not seen the film since it came out and don't remember it at all. I imagine this is a direct beat for beat copy (with more songs). By the end, truthfully, I was pretty fed up - with some severe ballad exhaustion. The best song in the show (beautifully sung by Alexia Khadime and cast) came after four ballads in a row in the second Act. It made me long for people pretending to ride horses again. Almost.
Cast were fine, nothing to say really. The guy playing his father in law (understudy, it seems) looked like he had fun. Alexia Khadime does well with her song - still can't act. Understudy Ramses looked like an understudy. It was all competent. Soulless but confident.

At a loss with some of the negative reviews for this: maybe because I’ve been staved of theatre in Australia for the last 18 months ( I did see Hamilton, the less said the better! ) but for me this was everything Disney wishes it’s shows to be. Honestly this was extraordinary, breathtaking, the choreography stunning , can’t begin to say how much I loved this.

Has anyone come across any real deals for this? Of course there's rush, but there are an awful lot of unsold seats on weekdays and I haven't seen any really good deals. Black Friday didn't seem any better than rush. Surely it would be better to sell cheap tickets than not sell them at all?

Take no notice of him AddisonMizner it’s a lovely show! 😌 I was in the side stalls on the aisle and it was great. For the parting of the sea (sorry spoiler… the sea parts!) the whole cast come off stage and exit through the stalls up the centre aisle so if you sit there and hate it you can trip them up 😀 |

This show has had more cancelled performances than any production I can recall... Is the Dominion theatre ghost unhappy with them or something? Certainly feels like they're cursed.

Adam Filipe (1st cover Moses) is on holiday this week and going by the WestEndCovers twitter both the lead & 1st cover Aaron (both of whom also cover Moses) were off sick so I'm assuming they couldn't do Prince of Egypt as they had no titular Prince!

Largely agree with this, I was quite bored although some of the vocals were good Agree. Vocals were good, just not noteworthy for me at least. I thought it was what you'd "expect" from a show so laden with big ballads.if they'd got that wrong the show would have little else. As I say, didn't hate it - just felt so average it wasn't worth seeing really as a great show or as disasterpiece. Laughed when they fall into the pit at end. |

I went to see the matinee of this today (30th December). This is both my first visit to London, and my first visit to a theatre since March 2020. I was desperate to see this when it opened pre-pandemic, but for obvious reasons didn’t. I was holding off hoping that it would extend past January, but obviously that wasn’t to be, so bit the bullet and booked a ticket. I was slightly nervous, especially with everything that is happening right now, but I practically had the row where I was sat to myself, and there was no one behind me, so I was very lucky and I felt safe.
Overall, I think the piece feels slightly too long, and dare-I-say that there are just too many songs, particularly in the second act. It just starts to become all a bit “musical by numbers”.
I also found the direction to be a bit hit and miss. In places some of the line deliveries tended to be over-the-top, as did some reactions. (The Queen’s reaction to the death of the Pharaoh being one such example).
I generally liked the use of the choreography/physical theatre from the ensemble, but at times it was overly fussy, and there was just too much going on so that you didn’t know where to look at any given moment. At its worse (though this was seldom for me), it looked a bit like a Sixth Form drama project.
With all that being said though, I was utterly swept up in it, probably because I hadn’t been to the theatre in so long. It was exactly what I wanted and needed at this moment in time! The score is gorgeous, and sounds glorious as performed here. It is gorgeously sung to boot (particularly by the women). I had goosebumps from the first trumpet solo, and then throughout, as well as tears in my eyes through “Deliver Us”, “All I Ever Wanted”, “Through Heaven’s Eyes”, “When You Believe” as well as various scenes. The projections, lighting and set were utilised well.
It’s great to be back! Now hoping to be at the Bridge for the first time in February seeing THE BOOK OF DUST.

Went to see this last night, having not been to the Dominion in a very long time (not since seeing 'We Will Rock You') and I had been wanting to see this ever since it was annouced to be opening in the West End. My general reaction to this was that I found it very enjoyable and cleverly done in places.
I loved the use of projections against the fabric haning down from the sides of the auditorium, in fact the whole set was a treat! Simple but effective! Not much I can say about the score, other than it's fantastic. I also didn't mind the use of choreography from the ensemble and there was some great imagery created, although I will admit there times were it was overused.
For me the biggest issue was the projection from some of the actors. The guy playing Moses in particular, at times I struggled to hear what he was saying. I don't know if this is due to the accoustics (seeing as this is a large theatre), but I think he could have thrown his voice a bit more during dialogue. But most of the performances were solid. For me the strongest ones were Seti, Hotep and Miriam.
Overall, this was a very impressive production and I had a good time with it. I think if the projection was better (I don't know what it was like for previous performances, so maybe it was just this specific show), I would have probably given this show 5 stars. But 4 is still good.

I saw this on Thursday evening for the first time and I really enjoyed it. I thought the staging was great and the way the ensemble were used was really interesting - I think this is probably the biggest 'production' I have seen since the pandemic too so perhaps that added to being swept up in the story overall.
Liam Tamne as Rameses was excellent I thought, what a gorgeous voice (and person!). As mentioned by AddisonMizner above, the orchestra sounded gorgeous. I would agree that perhaps the show is slightly too long and the only song I really remember is When You Believe which I already knew anyway.
That being said, very enjoyable evening at the theatre, and it is definitely a show I'd recommend to others if it hadn't been their last week that I saw it in. I hope they had a good send off last night.

I was there last night for my third visit. I never got to see it in its first life but did soon after reopening with social distancing from the rear circle and fell in love. It was just such a huge show. It did continue my tradition of seeing a musical based on a film without seeing the film first. I went back and sat in the front row which was great for seeing the emotions but not the overall spectacle. For closing night I went for front row circle. The place was sold out so there is obviously love for the show, as mentioned in the speeches the timing was awful. The atmosphere was electric, lots of long applauses and a mid show standing ovation.
I hope there is some future life for the show but I feel we won’t see it on that scale again. The performances were all amazing and I could see the emotion at times. I love the emotion of a closing night but this one came too soon.

Saw this show more times than I care to admit, so it was really nice to see it for a final time last night and finally getting the audience praise I think it deserved.
I think the spectacle of this show is almost what I expect from a west end show, a huge production that would struggle to be replicated in a touring show, unlike a lot of the other shows playing at the moment.
Really glad to know this has been filmed so it will live on in that medium at least, but was such a nice opportunity to say goodbye to the show last night and to be sat at the front of the stalls and seeing the tears in actors eyes throughout the night was very special.
