This is the movie which I did not like. Since when is it a crime for someone to mourn their husband or wife for a year or more. And of all people their son to try and set him up. Hated the concept of the movie. I haven't seen the film. Is it basically the attitude that a person should be in a relationship? If so "eugh" |

What a shame that so many on a theatre forum are being so sniffy about this. These guys have has pulled off the near miraculous feat of staging a brand new show indoors (a far greater achievement than that of JCS at Regents Park), and they deserve our full gratitude and respect.
I think many producers in the UK will keep a close eye on how this production works out.

This is indeed a horrible trailer - I would be running a mile in the opposite direction if this was my first impression of the show. But I saw Sleepless when it was on last year, and it wasn't bad at all. While it needed some work, it was an impressive production, and a very enjoyable, if undemanding, night out. Worth a punt if you are in need of a theatre fix!

The Troubadour is a perfect venue for a socially distanced production and we so need this kind of innovation and imagination at the moment. The producers are taking a huge risk with this, and as you say they deserve our gratitude and our support. I do hope this goes well. |

Here we are with the first piece of live theatre indoors to enjoy for over five months and all we've got is sniping about Kimberley Walsh, picking fault with the trailer, saying how awful the whole thing looks etc. Personally I can't wait to see it and completely agree that all of those involved, both on and off stage, are owed a debt of gratitude for making live indoor theatre happen again. |

I have a single ticket for next Wednesday but have been in two minds as to how comfortable I am going - it's not so much the theatre itself I'm worried about as the tube journey there.
The trailer has pretty much sold me on going, though. Not because I think it makes the show look amazing, but because it makes it look like a SHOW. Of the fully staged, fully cast variety that I love so much and want desperately to come back. That's not to say I'm not delighted about all the small scale outdoor things that have been going on, I'm supporting them too - and JCS in its very solid middle ground between the two.
Everyone involved in the production is putting in so much to give us this, of course I want to support that. So now I'm excited, and looking forward to my two show day with the first weekday matinee of JCS beforehand. A two show day in London, what normality!

I applaud the producers of this. They obviously want it to happen so much and as has been mentioned the space suits social distancing.
The trailer is a little odd but seems to follow the style of movie musical trailers not showing singing either!
I hope I have an enjoyable evening there in a couple of weeks. It has been fun spotting my seat in the little snippets on social media from the production and cast.
I’m ramping up with a no theatre trip to London this Saturday, outdoor theatre (JCS) the Saturday after then sleepless the Saturday after that. Not sure when my next 2 show day will be!

You can applaud them all you like for mounting a show at this time, but the script, songs and lyrics were all written well before Covid, and any faults in the writing can’t be glossed over by the “We should be applauding all theatre” panacea. |

I’m saying that perhaps some negative comments should be kept in moderation whilst we’re simply trying to encourage audiences back into the theatre. It’s in all our interests for this show to do well. |

I'm not sure bad theatre is going to get audiences back. 'Sleepless' may not be to your taste, but it is not helpful, or fair, to call it 'bad theatre' - which it absolutely is not. It is a well-crafted piece, put together and produced with passion and love by a team of professionals, with musicians and actors giving of their best. Give them a break!! This is a rubbish time for us all, and we all need something to feel hopeful about, not to tear down carelessly. |

Hmmm, I can see both sides of this.
Yes it is wonderful that ANY theatre is happening at the moment and I fully agree that we should be encouraging any producers making the effort to bring things to stage. Heaven knows we need more of them to so do.
But I don't think that means the actual show produced gets a 'free pass' from opinions on the piece itself.
Certainly for me personally there is nothing about this musical that appeals. The story, the trailer, the history of the previous productions. Nothing against Kimberley and Jay (there were fine in Big) but again their casting generally is not in line with the type of show I go for. But most crucial for me - it's a musical, and none of the music I've heard moved me.
Still, I hope there is an audience for this and I hope they pull it off, as they are our first indoor musical back.
(Oh and the last musical trailer that didn't contain much singing - I think might have been the Cats film?!)

I am in two minds about this one. I obviously want to support new musical theatre, especially in the current times, but the theatre is a trek for me to get to, I didn't particularly like the film and everyone I know that went to the earlier run of the show didn't really have much good to say about it.
So for now I am holding off getting a ticket and will wait for some reviews to see if things have improved and make it worth my while to go out to Wembley for the show. If reviews are coming back favourably on this forum, I will happily take the plunge.

Has anyone else had their ticket reassigned to a completely different date without being asked? I booked for next week and only just realised my ticket was changed to tomorrow instead which is naturally very stressful for me to try to sort out now

Hope they even manage to make the run profitable. (Just wish I wanted to see the show lol). Seeing these amazing wide open spaces, rows of loos and long long bar does rather highlight the problems of the physical FOH spaces in the West End.... |
