Yes, I think so. If that’s how it plays out onstage; with her, the graphics, other surprises and those vocals, & another 5 months rehearsals...well I think it’ll be fine.

Are you joking ?! It was a very flat lifeless performance. I can only assume she’s has very limited rehearsal though so I’m sure she’ll be much better once the show is actually on. I do not feel it was lifeliess

“Sam, ok, I want you to really emote in this one. It’s THE big number and lots of six year old girls have paid ninety quid for a stalls seat and dressed up in their Elsa costumes just for this. So ‘believable’ is the key, ok hun?”
”Umm... you mean act? I thought we said just do it sexy for the dads?”
”That too hun, you can do both? right?”
”Ok, if I clench my fists a lot but still do Elsa Walk with one leg out will that work”
”*Sigh* let’s start with that babe”

Ouch. Where was the acting? Reminded me of an amateur performance from a talent show or something.
to be fair, these standalone variety performances are hard to judge and it is early in the rehearsal process. I’m sure she’ll improve.

I must admit that although Sam hits all the notes, her voice just seemed to lack any depth or tonal quality, it could be the sound and will no doubt sound better in the theatre. Im giving her the benefit of the doubt as like any song, the more you sing it the more it fits comfortably in your voice.
Just going back to the dress transformation, will this not happen at all in the London version or do they just do it a different way to the original Broadway production?

Of course it will happen in London.
They just wouldn’t have been able to do it for a one off performance like this.
All the ‘amazing acting’ comments are hilarious. She did the best she could in the circumstances I guess. It’s not like they pushed the boat out (understandably given the circumstances) on the staging.

To be fair it's a publicity performance as part of an entertainment show, and her first time singing it for a crowd, so I wouldn't have expected it to be 'acted' particularly much at this stage. What was important were the notes, which she smashed. She's got plenty of time to build the character on top of them.

Well it did it’s job. Went onto the website after she performed and it put me in a queue with 5000 people ahead of me to book tickets.

I think our expectations of anything are comparatively high vs the sort of ticket buyer who decides to do so after seeing something on the tv. That’s just how message boards work. Lots of confidence in our own opinions 😁

I wasn't keen, especially in the first half of the song. To me it sounded a bit awkward, affected and as though something odd was going on with how she was placing her voice. Reminded me of someone trying to sing with a bad cold. That eased off in the second half though, and I loved the ending. I do miss the film version - kind of wish they'd left that in for the musical and then found a way to include a reprise with the higher, belted ending. But then there's a reason I don't write this stuff!

Stephen Oremus posted a picture of the Australian Frozen orchestra in his Instagram stories. It has only 10 musicians, with all the string section, guitar and some brass and woodwind cut off. Do we know anything of the orchestra size for London?

Aren’t most Australian productions basically tours, playing extended runs in the larger population centres? Might account for the reduced orchestra and gives me hope for something more substantial at the Lane!
Though as Broadway houses have minimum orchestra sizes, it’s possible that the original production will be an outlier in that respect...

Wow that’s a small orchestra for a show of this size.

What an absolute shame; especially when ticket prices aren’t low at all. Pity that D*sney can’t value a good orchestra, when they have some beautiful scores in their shows. Will Beauty also be a reduced pit?

Oh I know they weren’t doing the dress change for the royal variety. That’s not what I asked, someone earlier mentioned that the dress will not go through a trap on the stage at Drury lane and they will be using a US tour version. I’ve seen Caroline Bowman singing it on the tour now and through all the dry ice it looks like she stands on a platform that pulls the dress off.

Pretty sure the dress doesn’t go into the floor anyway. I’m sure when I saw it in NYC it just got sucked backwards upstage. London will have a new ice staircase, I think the first time it will have been done properly.

Yep. Will be re-booked in the order of performance once they've decided on a new opening date.
Disappointing but not unexpected.
Nice video teasing the sets and costumes:
