How easy is it to get rush tickets for this? I've managed to get rush tickets 6 times and always been in Row A or AA of the stalls. |

I think him coving Julian was planned, as Matthew is on holiday and Ryan tweeted me the other day saying "he may or may not be on for Andy Lee" with a wink. So I'm guessing Tom planned to be off also.

Fabulous show, heavily cut male Ensemble:
Only three boys in the Dames number with Billy and the hats.
Only six boys in the Dames number with the white suits.
Only seven boys in the first half We're in the Money.
Only nine boys in the second half of We're in the Money.
Ryan and Alyn aren't doubling up at all today. We obviously won't know until Plenty of Money for the full number of guys in the Ensemble.

Alyn and Ryan joined for Plenty of Money and the title song, with Ryan not doing the staircase part to make his change for the final scene as Andy. |

It was pretty spectacular! Ryan Gover and Alyn Hawke did a fantastic job, especially commendable since they were covering both principals and ensemble tracks, and Graeme Henderson was a good Julian although he seemed to struggle vocally at the extremes of his range. Philip Bertioli is a wonderful Billy, and his chemistry with Clare Halse is particularly great. Their little pas des deux towards the start of the title number was the steamiest I’ve seen! It was nice to see a few male swings that I’ve not seen before, and as danieljohnson14 mentioned there were several numbers with male ensemble tracks cut. I also liked Lulu much more today than when I first saw her in the show - perhaps since she’s had time to settle in a bit more. I’d still rather have Sheena back though...
With so many covers ticked off my list today, my next visit will probably be to see Steph Parry!

I was at this matinee, too... for someone who hadn‘t seen this production before, I didn‘t notice cuts or changes or everything, it all seeemed fine to me and I enjoyed the show a lot. Glad I went and seat A1 is definitely a steal at this price. Couldn‘t find fault with Lulu either, she may not have the trongest vocals, but thought she was doing a fine job overall and I‘d be very happy if I could still pull off such a show every day when I reach her age.

I just realised I never really posted my thoughts on the Saturday matinee. Fabulous as ever, and am glad to hear the cuts in Ensemble didn't hinder any experience. For me, part of the fun was seeing where the cuts were and seeing who was on when and where. It must of been chaos backstage. Graeme was great. Struggled a little bit vocally but was great none the less, getting well earned applause from the entire cast when he bowed. Clare her usual superstar self. Its a wonder how she can keep this level of standard up for a year and a half or whatever its been now. Incredible. I still like Lulu, shes alot of fun and has grown better into the role. If she extends, I'm fine with that. Philip was wonderful as always, having seen him a few times as Billy. He is someone who should be bigger on the West End than he is, he is fabulous. I mainly went to this performance because of the amount of understudies due to be on, particularly Ryan who I've wanted to see for a while now. He was great, quite a stern Andy but his sweetness and charm shone through. Alyn also was great, and was lovely to see both of them split tracks into their Ensemble roles. What made me laugh is those two are the gangsters in the 42nd Street and come dead centre and have a tap moment when no one else does. Because both Ryan and Andy have quite defined facial feature, I wonder if anyone was like why is Pat in the show? Despite a quieter audience because of the wedding, football and weather, everyone was respectful (bar one, see the Bad Behavior thread) and lovely, and most of the Stalls at least gave a well earned standing ovation after the final number. God I love this show, I could and will see it time and time again. |

So random question, but I noticed it on Saturday and hadn't before. Clare/Peggy wears a locket around her neck the whole show. I thought maybe it was just something Clare forgot to take off prior to the performance, bur looking at production photos, she seems to have the same locket on the whole show, both in the daytime scenes out of the show and the show within a show. Does anyone know why this is? Is it a character choice or just something to accessorise? Because if it was Peggys, surely she wouldn't wear it when performing? Does Peggy have a dark past? Is she Annie? Is it from her parents before they died as we never hear of them? I realise this choice doesn't change the story or anything, but now I'm curious.  |

I loved Matthew, preferred him by far over Tom! Sorry, but I couldn't stand Lulu.
For the first time I saw the microphones down the back of Clare's legs to pick up the tap sounds - I knew she wore them, but hadn't noticed them before - have they always been done that way? Unfortunately, I thought they looked like a case of dodgy varicose veins! However, their visibility had nothing to do with Clare's ability to dance - I take my hat off to her every time I see her. She is just sensational!

She is just sensational! Yeah I believe Clare wears six microphones total, two on her head (backup and live), and two on either leg (backup and live). Ashley is the same I believe, and then the Ensemble all wear three, one on each leg plus their heads due to the fact they don't need backup mics too much as they don't do any major solos and any time their mics may play up, generally the sound csn still be heard through the other cast members. I believe Andy Lee, Annie and the two friends fall somewhere between the two as they have solo dancing and lines. |

A report from last night, with a lot of covers and people moved around tracks.
The main reason I went was to see Matthew Goodgame as Julian Marsh. Very good, excellent vocals on Lullaby, played it much softer than Tom Lister. A nice change.
Philip Bertioli was on as Pat Denning. I'm seen him a few times in this role before, but the first time with Lulu. Some excellent chemistry there (and I also feel that Lulu now has chemistry with all of the cast, which really raises up her performance a level).
Mark McKerracher was on as Abner Dillon (a good surprise, as I've only ever seen Bruce Montague in the role before). Played it well.
Alyn Hawke as Mac/Doc/Thug. Perfectly fine.
The male ensemble was depleted due to the covers and others being away, with only eleven on, so two of the three waiters were covers (Matt Cox and Luke George were away). Martin McCarthy was on in the ensemble and I don't remember ever seeing him on before.
The young girl (about 9 or 10) sat beside me was very excited as her tap instructor, George Beet, was on. She was slightly less excited when he wasn't on, unfortunately, so lots of stretching and opening bottles and sweets type behaviour, but not too bad considering the venue.
Jae Alexander (conductor) was away and I believe it was Andy Massey taking the lead instead.
Graeme Henderson looked much better than when I saw him a few weeks ago, so glad to see he's recovered.
With the depleted male crew, there were different boys up front a lot of the time. Only 10 boys for Plenty of Money, which looks a bit odd due to the gaps. They didn't put Alyn or Philip in to make up the numbers. Freddie Clements had a near miss, but recovered well.
And, all the other leads were fabulous as usual. You can really feel the chemistry now with this crew. Can't go too far wrong here.
