Hopefully the fact that no future venue has been announced means this will quietly go and never be seen again. Hopefully something good heads into the Lyric following the refurb!

A theatre in such a prime location should be home to quality theatre - not a concert show. Yes, it sells - but that does not mean it is a valuable part of our West End scene. |

And rather than single out Nica Burns, we should remember there is a Max in Nimax. And after the board has decided on its quality shows it can rid the world of Starbucks, KFC, burger joints, sex shops, gay bars and other filth that clogs up the beloved West End |

By 'quality theatre', I mean a play or a musical or a dance piece - just something that is not a concert.
Sure there is an audience for something like this, but it is not a theatre piece. It is a concert that is being staged in a theatre. And it has been there too long.
I want West End Theatres to host theatre pieces - the occasional short run of a concert, gig, event, whatever is fine. Just not 11 years of it.

I loved Six and didn't enjoy Thriller. Six is also more like a pop concert than traditional musical theatre but that looks set for a long run and successful tour. There's a big audience for both.
My son worked last summer for a company organising educational holidays for students from all over Europe. Every person was offered a ticket to Thriller, 90% of them accepted. My son had to sit through it three times with different groups. He didn't enjoy it, but they loved it. None of them ever asked him if they could see Les Mis up the road or ...Jamie next door instead.
West End Theatre is a multi-million pound business. If a show can attract a profit-making audience for over 10 years then why shouldn't it still be there? No less deserving than Les Miserables or Phantom of the Opera, or at the other end of the spectrum Only Fools and Horses. Bums on seats is what matters most.
The Arts Theatre had a succession of recent shows which were not commercial successes and now has a winner in Six. If I were the owner I would be hoping for a ten year plus run and eyeing the £££s. I'm sure the owner of the Lyric Theatre has made a huge amount of money and Thriller has given a huge number of people a good night out. Well done to her I say.

Thriller is cheap to stage and makes money.This is showBUSINESS...what we think on this forum is irrelevant to the money men and women.Ticket sales are the currency.Foreign tourist and travel/tour organisers love this as it is easy to follow and everyone knows MJ’s music.It sells on tour and will probs get another London home.Facts of life.Money talks.

Totally with Simon on this. Yeah, it's a business blah blah, yes tourists love it, but in my personal view, it's such a tacky show and I'm delighted it's going. Hope it doesn't come back. And yes, the Lyric deserves to have a quality show back in there. And most people can tell the difference between a quality production and a cheapo concert moneyspinner. |

The lyric would never be an empty theatre as it’s stage is bigger than most playhouses. Thank god we have Cameron Mackintosh upholding some standards with the shows he puts in his theatres. |

The Garrick is basically a show killer for any musical transfers as we've seen with Chicago and Rock of Ages so Thriller Live moving there would end being a blessing in disguise. Nimax aren't perfect but I think calling Nica Burns useless is not on especially when you considered that she's taken punts on riskier shows like Everybody Talking About Jamie and Emilia for example |

^If being a tacky show rules out any show from being in the WE,we would have lost masses of shows over the years...I agree with others that the Garrick may well take this and it will probs run for years there...

Most rental agreements on long running shows have a clause that says the theatre owner can only end the run of a show if the box office (and/ or sometimes the bar takings) drop below a certain level for a number of weeks. While the show is selling it is very difficult for a theatre owner to evict a production. Don’t blame Nica if you think Thriller has been clogging up a West End house for years, blame the people who buy tickets to see the show. I don’t imagine she thought the run would last this long when she let it have a short run in 2009 and she definitely couldn’t have predicted Jackson’s death 6 months later which I am sure has a lot to do with the length of the run. |

I believe Blood Brothers ran for so long at the Phoenix because they had a long running contract which meant they paid less rent as the years went on which ATG was not happy with but they managed to evict them by drawing up a new contract which caused their rent to increase dramatically. It wouldn’t be surprising if Nimax simply wanted a new show for the Lyric as well as refurbishments, things like Chicago and Mamma Mia had to move theatres due to the theatre owner wanting to thing a new show. |

Anyone know about Thriller playing it’s final performance at the Lyric on the 26th April?
Is it moving to the Vaudeville or Playhouse or something? Or have they lost their first class rights due to MJ opening at the Neil Simon Theatre?
